Enchanting discoveries in Cruet, Savoie, Rhône-Alpes

Walk between the vines and the dry fields to enjoy nature (butterflies, birds, etc) and some beautiful landscapes such as the Combe de Savoie, a vineyard facing the Alps. Start: hamlet of la Baraterie, in Cruet.

Situated at 780 m deep in a verdant valley, the Marais de Nécuidet (marshland) has much ecological appeal. The wet grasslands of the Marais are preserved by traditional and adapted agricultural practices like grazing and scything. Discover -On the route, an information board allows you to discover the geographical features, animals and plants of the marshland. -Protected plants in the Rhône-Alpes region: the adder's-tongue fern and Montpellier thistle (Mediterranean variety which reaches its northern limit in the Savoy region). -A golden-ringed dragonfly, water-meadow grasshopper, and marsh warbler (bird) are among the living pearls of this wetland. Interesting titbits In the past, the marshland used to stretch to the foot of the hamlets of Nécuidet and Morion. In 1975, the brook that flowed in this vale was transformed into a straight drainage ditch to reach the farmlands. Little by little the marshland dried up and lost its remarkable natural features. In 2014, renaturation works of the brook and the wetland have returned the marshland to its true function. Brown trout, dragonflies, amphibians are back again!

This fairly short pass is not to be taken lightly, with gradients sometimes in excess of 10%. Facing south, it offers fine views over the mountains and the valley. Don't hesitate to extend the climb as far as Lac de la Thuile. A little-known and easily accessible pass that will take you up to the Bauges massif from the Combe de Savoie. The first part allows you to contemplate the surrounding massifs before a short flat. The final stretch is partly in forest, but the finish is only reached after a long, steep straight.

Lovers of applied geography, come and observe the massifs, peaks, rivers and valleys on the giant map of the landscape, thanks to this gentle but sometimes aerial hike. What a lovely start to this hike, with a view of the wonderful little lake of La Thuile, like a piece of blue sky falling at the foot of the mountains. Arriving below the Roc de Tormery, the great landscape begins to appear. From here on, you'll need to be careful not to be distracted by its magnificence. The Granier rises up in front of you; Chambéry and Lac du Bourget stretch out to the right. The Isère valley runs off to the left and the Bauges massif stretches northwards. As you follow the ridge, the views follow one another without resembling one another, as you pass parks and rocks. Further on, the Albertville valley is in your sights. Along the way, an orientation table will help you find your bearings and name all the peaks you can see in the distance. Crossing the forest again, the path takes you back to the village. At the bottom, it skirts the lake, whose soothing view signals the return to the valley and the end of this magnificent journey.

Set off on a hike that lives up to its name, along the ridges and marvel at the unobstructed view of the most beautiful massifs in the area. Time to brush up? D/ La Thuile village hall parking lot. 1/Turn left onto the road, after 100m you'll find a dirt track on your left. 2/ At the road, turn right and follow the road. 3/ Take the path on your right towards the Grotte de l'Ermite. 4// When you reach the edge of a field, cross it straight on. You then enter a wood, follow the markings on the trees and posts. The path gradually climbs up to a gate protecting access to a cottage. 5/Follow the path up to the right to reach the ridge. At the top, follow the fence. 6/ At the "Les combes Sud" sign, turn left towards "Roc de Tormery", and continue towards the Tormery cross. Magnificent views await you. 7/ You're skirting the crest of a rocky ridge, so take care. The path continues between meadows and woods, with several crossings of fences. 8/ At the "Le Tapin-Ouest" sign, there are two possible routes: either to the right, a tricky cabled passage, or to the left, a forest path. The routes meet up again at the "Sous Tapin" sign, with a succession of different viewpoints. 9/ Several successive foot-and-hand rocky passages. The path continues towards the Roche du Guet. 10/ Continue along the ridge. The descent begins gradually. At the various intersections, follow "La Tuile". 11/ You then come to a number of dwellings, cross the hamlet and head left towards "Le Mont". 12/ After 100 m, a path descends to your right, skirting the Lac de La Thuile and bringing you back to your starting point. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This popular spot offers a very pleasant setting just a few dozen minutes from the Chambéry basin. Come and discover La Thuile as a family, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of spring and autumn as you make your way gently around the lake. Finish this lovely loop, accessible to all, with a visit to the village. D/ La Thuile village hall parking lot. 1/ Leave the village hall on your right and head straight ahead into the field, towards the small undergrowth. Follow a dirt path alongside the lake, returning to the road after a few minutes. 2/ Go left along the road for 100m, then left at the crossroads. Continue along the lake for about 10 minutes on a tarmac track. 3/ Pass the auberge du lac on your right, then the town hall and head into the village. Take a left past the cemetery, a few more minutes on the road and you'll reach your starting point. Please take care on this part of the walk, as you are on the road, and cars may arrive at any moment. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This popular spot offers a very pleasant setting just a few dozen minutes from the Chambéry basin. This family walk is located on the village of St Jean de la Porte. The view of the Combe de Savoie and the Belledonne Massif are superb. Follow the itinerary back to the start point. From opposite the town hall (Mairie), take the road that goes to the top of the village. At the first junction, fo straight on until you get to the last houses. When you are level with the cross, turn right and cross the Combefolle stream. Continue along the road and then along dirt tracks between the vines, until you get to the hamlet of Les Grangettes. The path follows an old mule track, flanked by dry-stone walls, towards the forest. At the edge of the forest, contour around the hillside to reach the "Pont des Dames". Cross the bridge and continue the clilmb to the hamlet of Combefolle: the high point of the hike. Type of itinerary : round trip.

Fancy a nice hike in the Bauges off the beaten track? The Pic de la Sauge offers an ideal alternative for those who love slopes, rocks and beautiful scenery. Come and discover the secrets of this little-known summit. The first kilometer of the hike won't require too much effort, but it's only after crossing the river that things get serious. The trail leads into the Combe Noire, a remarkable beech-fir forest. It takes you under cliffs, from where a steep climb leads to the Rochers de Bévérau. The magnificent scenery above is your reward. Below, the Lac de La Thuile nestles in the hollow of the mountains, and in the distance you can see Belledonne, the Chartreuse, and the Chambéry Valley overlooked by the Croix du Nivolet. But the climb isn't over yet, and you continue on through a maze of rocks, looking for the yellow dots that point the way. A final steep climb takes you to the summit. Here you're greeted by a cross and a second breathtaking view of Belledonne, the Chambéry Valley and the Bauges. Now you're invigorated for the descent.

Perfect itinerary for a "big" family mountain hike. Beautiful views, passages under cliffs, a few rocky areas for a bit of scrambling and steep climbs to take the measure of the difference in altitude! D/ Small parking lot at "Le Crouzat". 1/ Walk north along the road (towards Entrenants). 2/ At the 1st hairpin bend, take the carriageway towards "montagne de la Sauge". Follow this track to the top of the Entrenants hamlet. 3/ Cross the river, then take the path up to the right. 4/ Make a few zig-zags, then at an intersection, leave the yellow and red path to take a smaller path on the right. This continues to climb and soon joins a slightly wider path. 5/ Keep climbing. The path crosses a beautiful beech-fir forest. At one point, the path is no longer clearly marked, so keep going straight up and you'll soon find the track again. 6/ You will then come to another path, marked in yellow. Leave the downhill path on your right, which you'll use on your return, and turn left. From here, follow the yellow markings. 7/ You pass under cliffs and then a steep climb takes you to the top of the Bévéreau rocks. >> The view is superb. Take a break to observe the tranquil Lac de la Thuile, the mountains that surround it and, in the background, Belledonne, the Chartreuse with the Granier, and, further to the right, the Chambéry valley overlooked by Mont Peney and the Croix du Nivolet.>>. 8/ Resume your ascent, following the yellow dots through a maze of rocks. 9/ After a few more steep climbs, a good path takes you to the summit of Pic de la Sauge, marked by a cross. Here you can enjoy the view over Belledonne and the Chambéry valley. To the east, the high peaks of the Bauges appear: Trélod, Arcalod, Arclusaz... 10/ For the descent, retrace your steps to the intersection left earlier. Follow the yellow markings all the way down. 11/ First you cross the cliffs, then continue to lose altitude on a path to the right. Much lower down, the path catches up with a wide track which takes you back to your starting point. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ When you arrive, please respect the parking spaces provided. The Tours de Montmayeur is a Medieval site containing the remains of a 12th-century motte-and-bailey castle. Its north-eastern tower rises over 20m above the ground. Overlooking Challes les Eaux from the top of Mont Saint Michel, it was built on the initiative of the Reverend Bassat, parish priest of Curienne. In order to build it, he was supported by numerous subscribers and the Carthusian fathers. It was inaugurated in 1879. Situated to the south of the old chapel, Saint Michael's Chapel is not quite at the highest point of the mountain, which culminates a few dozen metres to the north at 895 metres.
