Enchanting discoveries in Cruet, Savoie, Rhône-Alpes

Walk between the vines and the dry fields to enjoy nature (butterflies, birds, etc) and some beautiful landscapes such as the Combe de Savoie, a vineyard facing the Alps. Start: hamlet of la Baraterie, in Cruet.

Situated at 780 m deep in a verdant valley, the Marais de Nécuidet (marshland) has much ecological appeal. The wet grasslands of the Marais are preserved by traditional and adapted agricultural practices like grazing and scything. Discover -On the route, an information board allows you to discover the geographical features, animals and plants of the marshland. -Protected plants in the Rhône-Alpes region: the adder's-tongue fern and Montpellier thistle (Mediterranean variety which reaches its northern limit in the Savoy region). -A golden-ringed dragonfly, water-meadow grasshopper, and marsh warbler (bird) are among the living pearls of this wetland. Interesting titbits In the past, the marshland used to stretch to the foot of the hamlets of Nécuidet and Morion. In 1975, the brook that flowed in this vale was transformed into a straight drainage ditch to reach the farmlands. Little by little the marshland dried up and lost its remarkable natural features. In 2014, renaturation works of the brook and the wetland have returned the marshland to its true function. Brown trout, dragonflies, amphibians are back again!

This fairly short pass is not to be taken lightly, with gradients sometimes in excess of 10%. Facing south, it offers fine views over the mountains and the valley. Don't hesitate to extend the climb as far as Lac de la Thuile. A little-known and easily accessible pass that will take you up to the Bauges massif from the Combe de Savoie. The first part allows you to contemplate the surrounding massifs before a short flat. The final stretch is partly in forest, but the finish is only reached after a long, steep straight.

Set off on a hike that lives up to its name, along the ridges and marvel at the unobstructed view of the most beautiful massifs in the area. Time to brush up? What a lovely start to this hike, with a view of the wonderful little lake of La Thuile, like a piece of blue sky falling at the foot of the mountains. Arriving below the Roc de Tormery, the great landscape begins to appear. From here on, you'll need to be careful not to be distracted by its magnificence. The Granier rises up in front of you; Chambéry and Lac du Bourget stretch out to the right. The Isère valley runs off to the left and the Bauges massif stretches northwards. As you follow the ridge, the views follow one another without resembling one another, as you pass parks and rocks. Further on, the Albertville valley is in your sights. Along the way, an orientation table will help you find your bearings and name all the peaks you can see in the distance. Crossing the forest again, the path takes you back to the village. At the bottom, it skirts the lake, whose soothing view signals the return to the valley and the end of this magnificent journey.

Walk between woods, rocks and lapiaz to discover this small, wild promontory. At the summit, one of the most beautiful views of Lac de la Thuile awaits you, inviting you to pull your first spring picnic out of the bag. This very popular location offers a very pleasant setting just a few dozen minutes from the Chambéry basin. When you arrive, please respect the parking spaces provided. Cars parked outside the spaces are likely to obstruct traffic, and particularly emergency services. Keep to the paths: grass that has been flattened by trampling is unworkable for the farmer. Bivouacs are not permitted on this enchanting site.

Come and discover La Thuile as a family, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of spring and autumn as you make your way gently around the lake. Finish this lovely loop, accessible to all, with a visit to the village. D/ La Thuile village hall parking lot. 1/ Leave the village hall on your right and head straight ahead into the field, towards the small undergrowth. Follow a dirt path alongside the lake, returning to the road after a few minutes. 2/ Go left along the road for 100m, then left at the crossroads. Continue along the lake for about 10 minutes on a tarmac track. 3/ Pass the auberge du lac on your right, then the town hall and head into the village. Take a left past the cemetery, a few more minutes on the road and you'll reach your starting point. Please take care on this part of the walk, as you are on the road, and cars may arrive at any moment. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This popular spot offers a very pleasant setting just a few dozen minutes from the Chambéry basin. When you arrive, please respect the parking spaces provided. Cars parked outside the spaces are likely to obstruct traffic, and particularly emergency services. Fancy a nice hike in the Bauges off the beaten track? The Pic de la Sauge offers an ideal alternative for those who love slopes, rocks and beautiful scenery. Come and discover the secrets of this little-known summit. The first kilometer of the hike won't require too much effort, but it's only after crossing the river that things get serious. The trail leads into the Combe Noire, a remarkable beech-fir forest. It takes you under cliffs, from where a steep climb leads to the Rochers de Bévérau. The magnificent scenery above is your reward. Below, the Lac de La Thuile nestles in the hollow of the mountains, and in the distance you can see Belledonne, the Chartreuse, and the Chambéry Valley overlooked by the Croix du Nivolet. But the climb isn't over yet, and you continue on through a maze of rocks, looking for the yellow dots that point the way. A final steep climb takes you to the summit. Here you're greeted by a cross and a second breathtaking view of Belledonne, the Chambéry Valley and the Bauges. Now you're invigorated for the descent.

Easy walk to discover the vineyard of Arbin / Montmélian. The path goes through the copses and the vines. A panoramic viewpoint gives you a nice view on the Combe de Savoie, Virgin of the picturesque vines.

A "real" pass accessible at an altitude of less than 600 m, that's not so common! So if you want to train or just enjoy a nice view, the Col de la Cochette is there for you! This "valley" loop is surprising in more ways than one: as it doesn't take the main roads, it lets you take it easy on the small secondary roads that are so pleasant for silky-smooth pedaling. It also combines small, more demanding sectors without really putting you in the red. And it's also an opportunity to "make a pass" so dear to cyclists, the Cochette pass, where you can take a break and have a look at the two main towns of the Coeur de Savoie, Montmélian and Valgelon-La-Rochette. Between the Bauges and the Belledonne, you'll be surprised by the difference in atmosphere between the slopes of this small intra-valley massif known as "Montraillant". The route passes through small, isolated hamlets where pastoralism is still present with its large farms and lush green pastures.

This wine estate dates from the end of the 18th century and has been totally renovated, welcoming visitors to its cellars. Wine tastings and shop. The Tours de Montmayeur is a Medieval site containing the remains of a 12th-century motte-and-bailey castle. Its north-eastern tower rises over 20m above the ground. Other than numerous remains dug up by archaeological excavations, the keep, outer walls, 'aula' (lord's house), kitchen and church, the attraction of the Tours de Montmayeurs is its strategic location overlooking the Combe de Savoie, offering visitors a 360° panorama over Les Bauges, the Massif de Belledonne and Chartreuse. The magical setting of this outstanding site will enchant children and adults alike.

This former hydraulic forge and the two visible trip hammers reveal the pre-industrial past of the Massif des Bauges. Explore this heritage through the game 'La conquête des droits d'eau' (Conquest for the rights over the water). The forge was built on the right bank of the diversion called Otton-le-Jeune, which reaches the Forge des Allues due to a largely open-topped, stone channel that passes along the houses of the hamlet. Just before arriving at the forge, notice that the stone edges of this channel are carved in order to be used as a spillway. Along the final metres, the water flows down a metal channel, which divides in two: one stream powers the forge's turbines, whilst the other powers a hydraulic horn, which acts as bellows for the forge. Pieces of the channel are still visible, but the horn has since been dismantled. Large glass windows have been installed to let the public see inside the building. The majority of the equipment and fittings are still visible, in particular the two trip hammers and their camshaft. These trip hammers still work, thanks to a vertical outdoor Canson turbine, which can still be seen along the north side of the building. A metal walkway has been built above the waterways so that visitors can get close to the wheel. The forge was also equipped with another, smaller Canson turbine, which powers different machines (sharpening stones, column drills etc.). In 2011, the tools in the forge were inventoried.

The chalk grasslands are part of the natural formations intimately associating flora, fauna and geology. A path has been created around Mont Saint Michel to explore this Natura 2000 classified environment at your own pace.

Overlooking Challes les Eaux from the top of Mont Saint Michel, it was built on the initiative of the Reverend Bassat, parish priest of Curienne. In order to build it, he was supported by numerous subscribers and the Carthusian fathers. It was inaugurated in 1879. Situated to the south of the old chapel, Saint Michael's Chapel is not quite at the highest point of the mountain, which culminates a few dozen metres to the north at 895 metres.
