Come and discover the flora and fauna of the Mazièrois lakes, nestled in the heart of the woods.The itinerary starts at the small car park on the edge of the Etang de Viers. Take the small road on the dyke then, on the right, take the path which goes up the lake.Before you reach the woods, take the path on the right that runs alongside the meadow and then go up to the road. Opposite, go back as far as the hut by the lake at Montsour.Take this road on your left for 800 m, ignoring the track leading to the stadium on your left, and then the Trompette road. After the houses, take a left turn onto a woodland track; go right at the next crossroads. At the road, turn left for 100m and then right at the next track to reach the Etang des Ganes.Walk alongside the lake by the footbridge then go up by the tarmac track as far as the village. In the village, take the road to the left and then to the right after the last house. At the next crossroads, turn right to Bouix. Take the departmental B-road on the left for 100m. Then, at the end of the straight section, the road on the left.This path runs alongside the Etang du Grenouiller. Go straight on at the next crossroads to reach the Trompette lake. Go over the dam. Continue to the hamlet of Viers. Continue straight on to reach the starting point again.

From the plateau to the Vianon and Luzège gorges, this route is full of natural and cultural wonders.Take the RD 55 towards the town hall. At the town hall, turn right towards the Chambougnol mill. The road becomes a track.Where the tracks cross, turn right: stay on the main path down into the gorge for 1.5 km. At the crossroads, turn right to make a return trip to the river; go up for 200 metres to see the rocky gorge and then return to the crossroads.Go up a few metres and leave the main path on the right for a small steep trail; follow the signs carefully on this long and technical section - it doesn't have many landmarks. Pass under a power line and find a track.Go up for 50 metres, then drop down to the right by a path in the undergrowth that joins a road. Follow the road to the left to reach the Old Church.Level with the site (you can go up to the church by the stone steps or to go down on the right for a round trip to the Luzège dam, 500 m), take a trail on the left which goes up by wooden steps; stay on the main route: the trail becomes a path at the end of the wood, then a road towards the first house. Go through the village of La Croix; continue on the road, passing the road towards the village of La Chevalerie on the right.In the village of Laborie, take the track on the left, which arrives at a crossroads of tracks. Turn right to take the track you already took on the way to the starting point.

At the top of the road, take the path on the right. At the next crossroads with the road, go left. Continue straight ahead to reach Neuvic.Cross the D 982. Take the 1st left (Blvd Pasteur). Turn left to reach the roundabout; continue towards St-Angel on the road that goes up to find the starting point again.

This circuit offers you an immersion in the wild gorges of the Luzège.At the entrance to the hamlet, take the road to the right road behind a barn (on the gable of which an inserted cross inserted bears the inscription "I.H.S", "Iesa Homines Salvator", "Jesus the Saviour of Men"). The road becomes a path and passes to the left of a ruined house. Continue between the meadows.Where the paths intersect, take the one on the left. It goes down into the gorges (the meadows of the plateau attract many animals who take refuge in the gorges and come to eat at nightfall) and arrives on a flat ledge.Continue by the track on the right to go down to the bottom of the gorges. Well marked at first, it then runs alongside a stream which is often dry in summer (follow the markings carefully; at the foot of the gorges, the hornbeam replaces the beech; the leaves being out of reach, its grooved and bumpy bark makes it possible to differentiate it from beech) and reaches the edge of the Luzège.Use the fishermen's trail either upstream or downstream (enjoy the freshness, the wild and green universe of the gorges; the sandy areas along the shoreline capture many animal tracks: deer, wild boars, roe deer and otters pass through here). Go back up by the same path.Back on the flat, go straight up the path to Job and arrive at the plateau. Turn left, walk alongside a field, and continue by the road that leads to the entrance of the hamlet.

After quite a long time, and after a meadow, turn right onto an inconspicuous path goes through a cutting in the woods and continues straight on to the road.Take that road on the left, leave it heading for Champier and enter the village of Baratout.At the junction, turn left and then take the grassy path immediately to the right. It goes into the forest. Turn right at the crossroads with the multi-branched beech tree.When you reach the road, turn right then left at the departmental road. Pass the Vianon again, leave the road to Palisse-Haute on the right, then, 200 m further on, take an uphill path on the right. Follow it straight ahead, alongside the meadows and then the campsite.Take the road to the left and then, 100 m after, take another path on the right.On the road, continue to the left for 300 m, then follow a track to the right. At the end of the track, before the grassy path, follow an inconspicuous path on the left that rejoins the road. Turn right to get back to the starting point.

This 14km400 slightly hilly circuit opens the doors to the remarkable 410 hectare Triouzoune lake. Its privileged location in a preserved natural environment makes it an ideal holiday destination. Halfway along the route, stop at the Puy de Manzagol, a viewpoint overlooking the Triouzoune lake and the Pellachal bridge. Further on, it will be possible to contemplate the Monédières. Then the route offers you a passage over the Triouzoune dam! This is an opportunity for you to admire the remarkable landscape around you before finishing this beautiful escapade... At the T-junction, turn left; continue straight ahead until you reach the point where the tracks cross.Turn right and stay on the main track, which arcs round to Le Vent Bas, ignoring several paths and tracks on your right. Where the tracks cross in a T shape, turn left towards the village.At the first house, take the road to the left and follow it as far as the intersection with the D 982. Turn left and go up for 200 m.Take the trail to the right, cross the stream and follow the path that winds upwards and then straight on. After the steep path, follow the path on the left. Continue to the end of the wood, ignoring several paths on your left. Where the tracks meet, turn right and then left. Cross over to go into Le Vent-Haut.In the village, turn right twice. Follow the track. At the T-junction, go right: follow the track you took on the outward journey in the opposite direction; it leads back to the starting point.

The Laborie paths will take you to the Lestrange site where a viewpoint overlooking the Luzège river awaits you.Take the path between two hedges, leave the path to the right and cross the wet valley. Go up between the opaque and diversified hedges (ash, hornbeam, holly, hawthorn, oak and fossilised charcoal mix, and provide an ideal shelter for many nesting birds). Continue along the path on the left and go through Valeix. Continue by road, passing in front of a bakery and a former charcoal burner's kiln. Take the track on the right for 30 m.At the junction, go straight down the track. It leads to the site of Lestrange (a rocky promontory where a chateau once stood; Today, a few stones and the protective ditch testify to the lordly building). Continue by the small trail that leads to the viewpoint overlooking the gorges of the Luzège (take care: no safety barrier).Return to the junction and turn right onto the path between two meadows.Go down towards the valley and continue along the path straight ahead, leaving many trails to the left and right.Take the track to the left.Take the road on the left, enter Laborie (leaving the track on the right) and then follow the road on the right. Continue straight ahead, pass the crossing, then take the road towards La Charlanne on the left to reach the starting point again.

At an altitude of 572 metres, on a rocky spur which dominates the Soudeillette and Vigne gorges by two hundred metres, the Ventadour castle stands with its imposing ruins in a site which evokes both the power of medieval feudalism and the blossoming of courtly love, to which the name of the troubadour Bernard de Ventadour remains attached. The castle site was built in the 11th century and the oldest remains currently preserved date back to the end of the 12th century. The ramparts, the round tower, the seigneurial dwelling and the chapel of Saint-Georges can still be seen today. The castle commanded the Viscounty of Ventadour, the towns of Ussel and Egletons. For more than a century (12th - 13th century), the castle of Ventadour was a centre of artistic creation, one of the most important in Occitan countries.

Fed by the Battut stream, its 7 ha are mainly populated by carp, roach and tench. It is reserved for fishing and walking. Between 1913 and 1959, this tramway, also called the "Tacot", linked Ussel to Tulle. On average, 190 passengers used this tramway every day. It served about 50 villages, including Saint-Pantaléon-de-Lapleau.

In the past, many villages had their own bread ovens, which were owned jointly by the inhabitants, but some of them were built into the house and opened directly into the chimney of the dwelling.

In the shelter of the banks of the Luzège, a discreet and fascinating animal is hiding: the European Otter. It feeds on fish, but also on amphibians and crayfish. This animal, which spends a lot of time playing, is a witness to the quality of the water and the preservation of the environment. Once prized by trappers for their fur, otters had almost disappeared. Today, the otter is present on all the watercourses.

One of the smallest lakes in the commune (1.5 ha), it is without doubt the most beautiful of the five. Nestling in the heart of the woods, fed by springs and populated exclusively by salmonids. L'étang des Ganes is reserved for trout and brook salmon fishing. A 2-hour hike takes in all 5 ponds.

In 1929, the town of Neuvic undertook the creation of three washhouses, including this one, the Raymonde wash house. Two other washhouses are still visible (the Grandes washhouse and the Gane washhouse). They remained in use until the middle of the 20th century when they were gradually supplanted by domestic washing machines.

Dedicated to rivers and fishing, this museum provides visitors with information on local and regional studies carried out in lakes and rivers. An exhibition hall houses displays of fishing materials, fly hooks, the hydrography of the Upper Dordogne Valley, local species and fishing cockerels. It also offers meeting rooms for seminars and conferences. Subject to demand, the Maison de l'Eau and de la Pêche offers year-round beginners’ and improvers’ fishing courses for the general public run by its two fully qualified fishing guides (fly fishing for carnivorous fish in a local reservoir etc). Situated on the edge of the Triouzoune lake (410 ha) in a green setting, the campsite welcomes you on 60 shaded, delimited pitches and in 13 wooden chalets. On the leisure side, entertainment is offered at the campsite and the beach with supervised swimming (in July and August) is located 500 m away. Services: bakery and grocery shop in summer, games room, barbecue, electric bike rental... Reception open from 9am to 12pm and from 2pm to 6pm depending on the season.
