Treat yourself to a unique experience as you pedal along the Le Béroux stream and its many tributaries, blending wilderness and bucolic landscapes. The ride is easy, but there are a few hills and downhills to keep you on your toes.

Particularly impressive on its rocky outcrop overlooking the Creuse Valley, Boussac Château has had an eventful history: built in the 12th century, ruined during the Hundred Years War, re-built, fortified then embellished, before being wrecked during the Revolution. George Sand stayed there several times and set part of her country novel 'Jeanne' there and also it's where she discovered the famous "Lady of the Unicorn" tapestries. It became a sub-prefecture, gendarmerie, annex to the fairground where the pigs were kept, it was saved from ruin in 1965 and restored with fine taste by the present owners who now live in it. The visit of the four floors of this Historical Monument – monumental emblazoned fireplaces, tapestries, an immense kitchen with unusual utensils, ancient panelling, furniture of the era… – is often completed by presentation of its unusual collections (canes, fonts…) and quality exhibitions (tapestries, paintings…).

Historically part of the Bas Berry, Boussac has always been a territory of confluence notably between the Auvergne, the Limousin and the Berry through its weekly markets. For 6000 years, man has accompanied a vine, the vine, Vitis vinifera in greater Europe... In France, it occupies 3% of the agricultural area and consumes 20% of the tonnage of pesticides. Despite this, every year she is still sick. In organic farming, the use of heavy metals (copper and sulphur) against disease is far from satisfactory for the environment, people and the taste of wine. Since the 19th century, the phylloxera aphid and the mildew, powdery mildew and black rot fungi have been destroying European vines. Other Vitaceae (in the Americas or in Asia) are resistant: vitis rupestris, riparia, labrusca, rotundifolia, amurensis... By crossing them with our European vines, hybrid vines are born, naturally resistant, producing fruits with wonderful tastes. I deliberately chose to accompany a flourishing vine, which does not suffer, resistant to diseases and without any treatment. I deliberately want wines that are healthy, lively, not boring, which make you happy without making you crazy, quirky and surprising! My grape juices work naturally, protected by CO2 from fermentation and regulated temperatures, with no added sulfites. This dozen grape varieties offers multiple and exciting winemaking possibilities: overripe harvests with preservation of acidity, skin macerations, raisining, direct pressing or strong extractions... Boussac-Bourg was formerly called Boussac the churches because of its peculiarity of having 2 churches, today known as the Saint-Martin Church and the Notre Dame Chapel. The two "twin" churches presented a curious disposition, built at the same time, parallel to each other. They were connected by a passage. It seems that the smallest, with a steeple, was at the parish; the other, larger and without steeple, was to be the church of the priory dependent on the Provost of Evaux. From these two churches there is, to the north, the most important, single nave, terminated by a narrower choir and a circular apse. The second is in ruins, the nave destroyed, the vaulted choir is on a square plan and supports the steeple. Inside, there are important remains of superimposed frescoes from the 12th-13th century and the 15th century.

A few steps away from one of the most iconic sites of Creuse, the Saffronière des Pierres Jaumâtres invites you to discover how it grows its saffron and physalis (Peruvian cockerel) a small acidulous fruit native to South America. All year round sale of saffron pistils, products derived from our different cultures and herb boxes. Visits daily during bloom in October (harvest to 9.30).
