Discover Dampierre-les-bois and its local wonders

A real sporting challenge, this route is aimed at experienced cyclists. Why not do it over two days? Take a break to explore the cultural and heritage attractions of Delle, Porrentruy, Boncourt and Brebotte. Combining greenways (Eurovélo6, francovélosuisse, voie verte de la Largue in Alsace) and steep country roads, this loop is the most difficult. We like: the Maison de la Nature in Altenach, the stork park in Seppois and the Bison Park in Boncourt*.

As this trail crosses the Strasbourg – Molsheim – St Dié and Strasbourg – Sélestat – Colmar railway lines, it can be done stage by stage and you can easily return to your starting point.

This itinerary, which links the Atlantic to the Black Sea, runsalong the three longest European rivers, the Loire, the Rhine andthe Danube, from Nantes to Budapest. From Franche-Comté to Switzerland, EuroVelo 6 follows the Rhône-Rhine canal into Alsace, passing the impressive ladder of twelve locks of Valdieu-Lutran in its southern part. After arriving in Mulhouse, the route continues along the banks of the Rhône-Rhine Canal to Kembs. From there, via the towpath of the 403000002 into Germany and then into Switzerland to Basel.

Wend your way along the winding roads of Alsace interweaving through the network of villages that make up this trail along the watershed. At the heart of Sundgau, you will take the former towpaths of the Rhône-to-Rhine Canal with locks dotted along the way (away from the road and rail routes linking Bourgogne and Alsace).

The floral village of Friesen, in the LargueValley, has conserved 50 timbered buildingsconstructed between 1497 and 1878. A walkingcircuit through this floral village revealsa unique heritage which is characterized bythe oldest peasant house in Sundgau! During this itinerary you will discover the Largue valley with its myriad lakes. Along the Largue cycle track, the Altenach Maison de la Nature and the Hindlingen stork sanctuary give you the chance to stop off for a little while. The itinerary goes through Hirtzbach, a typical Sundgau village on the Ill river, with pretty floral decorations. From Carspach to Altenach there are views over peaceful forest for you to admire.

The House of Nature discovery path, will help you find educational facilities, small games, panels on organic gardening, the spiral of scents, the pond, the hive, etc. A booklet allows you to follow all the routes! Free laminated copies are available at the entrance. Please return them at the end of your walk. You can also take one home by asking at the reception desk!

Devised by the pupils of Wolfersdorf school, this trail enables you to explore and get to know the people that inhabit the village woods. Access to the trail is via the Lenzweg path (red light near the Town Hall/school), about 2 km from the centre of the village.

The Rhône-Rhine Canal carves a furrow through Alsace from its entry point at Valdieu, at 350 m in altitude to Brunstatt at 250 m in altitude. As you cycle along its banks from lock to lock, between Wolfersdorf and Illfurth, you can easily imagine the pace of life of the canal boatmen of yore. The trail also follows the former railway lines along the rivers Ill and Largue reminding us of a time when it was usual to travel to the Sundgau by train.

If the weather allows, climb on board a steamboat and cross the lake to reach Chillon Castle. Make the most of a guided tour of this fortified castle, built in the 16th century and hidden by Lake Geneva!  After your visit, you will head back towards Montreux by bus. You will make a stop to enjoy some free time in the town. At the heart of the town, make the most of the unique and relaxing atmosphere in the centre of the Swiss Riviera. DEPARTING FROM LAUSANNE, HEAD TO THE MEDIEVAL TOWN OF GRUYÈRES, HOME TO THE FAMOUS SWISS CHEESE! Departing from Lausanne, head to the medieval town of Gruyères, home to the famous Swiss cheese!  Leave Lausanne by bus and climb up into the alpine pastures to reach Gruyères.  After a tour around the town, your guide will take you to a Swiss chocolate factory to show you how famous Swiss chocolate is made.  Then head to an old alpine cheese factory. Enjoy a Swiss cheese tasting and learn more about the national dish: fondue.  Learn to make your own Swiss fondue and try the traditional dish.  After your meal, relax and climb on board the Golden Express, a panoramic train which crosses the alpine pastures and the heights of Lake Geneva. Enjoy incredible views of the lake and the Alps. When you get off the train, get back on your bus and head to Lavaux and its terraced vineyards. The pony club of Haut-Bois welcomes you every day. Jennifer and his dad Francis offer baby pony lessons for children from 2 ½ years, private lessons or group and free rides on horseback or pony.

Built between 1868 and 1870 under the impetus of Father Adam, who was both architect and master builder, the church of Lauw stands out as an iconic landmark of the village. Its Franche-Comté-style roof, with its geometric patterns and bright colours, is a strong element of local identity, recognisable among all others in the valley. Transferred to the municipality in 1987 by the parish council, the church, along with all its parish property, became part of the municipal heritage. Over time, the building suffered damage during the two world wars. Carefully restored, it has been returned to its former glory thanks to the successive interventions of the painters Greth and then Talenti, who have brought it back to life while respecting its spiritual character. In 2002, a significant event further strengthened the link between the parish and the municipality: two new bells were jointly acquired. This was a first, as until then the bells had come from another parish, recovered after the initial construction of the building.

The Church of Saint George in Sentheim was built in 1779, based on plans by architect Gaspard Mertz, who was working for Masevaux Abbey at the time. It replaced the village's old church, becoming a new place of worship at the heart of the community. The interior of the church still has remarkable liturgical furniture, made entirely of wood: the choir altars, side altars, confessionals and pulpit bear witness to the craftsmanship of the time. The bell tower was added during the 19th century. The organ, built between 1787 and 1788 by the organ builder Rabigny, is pneumatic. It has undergone several major transformations: first by Callinet in 1841, then by Martin Rinckenbach, who modernised it while respecting its original character. Behind the high altar, an imposing oil painting depicts Saint George slaying the dragon, a symbol of faith and the victory of good over evil. Opposite the church, a small square features a Lourdes grotto with a fountain, as well as a war memorial, a place of remembrance and contemplation for the local residents.

The small lake Lachtelweiher, the southernmost of the lakes Vosges is located at 740 meters above sea level. The Faience Factory of Doller is a small artisanal company specialized in the work of the earth. It produces art pottery and objects used in dowsing. Some of our achievements are presented and can be ordered on this site others are to discover in our shop open from Tuesday to Friday or on our Facebook page: Faïencerie de la Doller. Guided tours of the pottery workshop on reservation. Every last weekend of August, there is the Potters' Market, a gathering of 45 exhibitors with entertainment and Raku shows for 3 days!

With its pedestrianized city center, Masevaux has become a very welcoming town. Known as a flower-filled town awarded 4 flowers, it won the national grand prize in 2000 and the Golden Flower (Fleur d’Or) in 2015. It can be discovered in all seasons, especially through its historical and tourist circuit during the summer. Numerous events take place throughout the year, including the Pumpkin Festival, the Magical Christmas Walk, flea markets, and street fairs.

The Church of Saint Maurice in Guewenheim was built in 1760. Silent witnesses to history, its walls were severely damaged during the two world wars. Between 1958 and 1965, a complete restoration restored its dignity, respecting its original architecture. Inside, two altars attract attention: one dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary and the other to Saint Anthony of Padua. Made of wood and stucco, they were painted in 1833 by Antoine Feuerstein, as was the tomb of the high altar, executed in an elegant neoclassical style. The main altarpiece depicts Saint Maurice receiving the crown of martyrs from the hands of Christ, a striking work by Heinrich Kaiser. The baptismal font, meanwhile, comes from the old church, preserving a tangible link with the village's religious past. The organ, built in 1833 by Joseph Stiehr, has survived the ages thanks to several successive restorations carried out by Rinckenbach, Thomann and then Louis-François Callinet, thus perpetuating a musical tradition at the heart of the liturgy.

The church was built in 1786, when the first walls were constructed, carks appeared on them, stopping work for many years.It was only in 1837 that wok started again with the architect Kuen, finishing in 1842. In 1966 a great fire entirely destroyed the church. It took fice years to rebuild it again , in the original noeclassical design. Before the great fire the church housed the famous organs built by the Callinet brothers.The largest were as large as the Nave. The largest that the Callinet's had ever (19m). A new organ was built in 1975 by Akfred Kern from Strasbourg, completed with a Schwenkedel heart organ (1972). Thanks to both of these instruments, the International Organ festival has taken place in Masevaux since 1977, contributing to Masevaux's renown.

A high-altitude lake at 1,000 metres, accessible only on foot – so make sure you wear suitable footwear! Classified as Category 1 and subject to the Fisheries Act. Catch limits: 4 salmonids and 2 carp (carp weighing over 3kg must be released) Fish species: brown trout, lake trout, Arctic char, brook trout and cristivomers. Number of rods: 2 Fishing permits: day, weekly (7 consecutive days) or annual Fishing permits are available online at www.cartedepeche.fr, at the Masevaux-Niederbruck Tourist Office, at the Riesenwald farm inn in Rimbach and at the Auberge du Neuweiher in Oberbruck. Access: on foot only from the village of Rimbach-près-Masevaux via the Riesenwald farmhouse inn or via the Neuweiher lakes. Camping is prohibited here.
