A pleasant walk starting from an exceptional village, which on small country roads or paths allows to enjoy the superb panorama.

The name Saucède appears to originate from the willow trees ("saules" in French) that grow along the banks of the Gave. In the past, basket weavers would come to gather these willows to make baskets.

This hike gives hikers a chance to get up high and enjoy a beautiful panorama of the Pyrenees. Once you've descended to the Laus stream, you'll find yourself in a completely different, very wet environment, where the most curious will discover the wealth of riparian environments.

Perfect for summer rides and ideal for those who need a dose of chlorophyll, this route, although short, is quite intense. The 24 km extend over the relief. It is true that the warm-up goes smoothly until the Saint-Blaise Hospital, but right after the real game will begin. We can recommend a visit to the magnificent Romanesque church. The Saint-Blaise Hospital is a stage on the Camino de Santiago, where many pilgrims pass every year. Surrounded by beauty, it is time to jump right into our circuit and tackle the first climb right away. Green is still the dominant colour among meadows and dense forests. The foliage brings freshness and you will find passages on a balcony with a beautiful view of the mountains.

Only the first two ascents require a little technique and effort but the rest of the loop is pure joy! The joy of gliding down beautiful rolling tracks and speeding through countrysides and little villages. This track follows a section of the GR78, the Piemont Way.

The gently rolling Geüs-d’Oloron hillsides have been sculpted by countless streams. Among the farmlands and forests, the heights unveil amazing vistas of the mountains.

A pleasant hike with a mountain feel where the climb is steep at the beginning and quickly leads to the fields and vineyards overlooking the Cardesse woods.

Founded in 1020, the church of St. Vincent is a former Benedictine abbey that still possess a part of its 12th century decoration : cornices and vaults. The church houses a religious rarity : a white marble sarcophagus dating from the 5th century, the origins of which are unknown.

The Domaine is in Lucq de Béarn, a Béarnaise village near Monein, in the heart of the Jurançon AOC region and near to the Barraquet farm. It stretches out over the hillsides of Lucq de Béarn, facing the Pyrénées and is still run by the Estoueigt family, who have been living in the farm and producing wine for generations. In the 1980’s Julien took over the farm and entirely restructured the vineyards. Always looking to improve, Julien is continually working on the Petits Mansengs (a grape variety) as well as the oak barrel ageing process. He also produces the wine plot by plot, thus letting the individual qualities of each section of land stand out. There are eight different wines in the range and guided tours are available in addition to tastings and of course direct sales.

This wine growing property in organic farming owes its name to the shape of the dome on which it is located, this place constitutes one of the highest points of Monein. It is the smallest estate of the AOC Jurançon appellation with 0,8 ha. On the large slope on the south side, facing the peak of Anie, are planted the small mansengs which give the sweet white wines with an amber color, fruity and rich at the same time. The big mansengs are on the west-northwest side. This exposure offers dry whites that are rather lively and very fruity. Le Dôme produces dry and sweet Jurançon wines, as well as a "Entre 2" vintage which is a blend of Petit and Gros Manseng.

The "La Grange des Georges" Bed and Breakfast is located in Lay-Lamidou, a village typical from the Béarn region, near the fortified Navarrenx, in the Gave d'Oloron valley (Gave being a name given to Pyrenean mountain streams). Monein possesses the most beautiful and largest Gothic church in Béarn (15th century). Truly a wooden vessel, it comes to life in the light, music and poetry in a spectacle of rare beauty.

On the hillsides in Monein, near to Pau and facing the Pyrénées, this eight hectare estate is very old. According to legend, a ‘gersois’ (a person from the Gers) named Montesquiou, came to the Béarn to get married and founded the estate which still bears his name. It has been passed down from father to son. Today Sébastien and Fabrice Bordenave Montesquiou are at the helm, producing five types of wine which are typical of the appellation. The estate includes a traditional Béarnaise house and a wine cellar made from pebbles. Guided tours of the set up, tastings and direct sales are on offer and campervans are welcome.

Navarrenx is a 16th century walled town, ideally situated in the heart of the Béarn des Gaves region (Gave being a name given to Pyrenean mountain streams), at equal distance from the Pyrenean range, from Pau and Bayonne. In the heart of the Jurançon AOC in Monein, the Domaine Bayard is a six hectare property with three hectares of vines; it has been worked in an artisanal manner for centuries, and was bought by the Laborde family in 2016. The goal is to get the best from this old and noble land using the most modern methods (in the winery, the fermenting room, the press, thermoregulation…) and whilst accessing highly developed winemaking skills from abroad, in order to create both dry and sweet Jurançons adapted to today's palates. This is why the wines have already received accolades from specialist French and international wine guides. The new plantations will integrate native varieties, which are designed to retain the fresh and lively taste of Jurançons, despite the general tendency towards global warming.

Lucq de Béarn is a typical Béarnaise village between Monein and Navarrenx. The estate is located in the heart of the Jurançon AOC region, surrounded by vine clad hillsides. The ‘Bois sacré’ is a nod to the village of Lucq de Béarn where the St.Martin family has lived for centuries. Today the fifth generation has taken over, producing their first wines from the estate in 2015. Inspired by peasant ancestry, the winemaking is based around observing natural conditions in order to produce authentic and balanced wines. Guided tours of the installations and a presentation of the sweet and dry wines is on offer for visitors.

Near Navarrenx, an imposing 16th century fortified town, the commune of Ogenne-Camptort offers four picnic areas scattered throughout the village. Each of them has a table and benches. All around you, trees, fields and greenery will bring a touch of zenitude to your meal break. Nearby, the orientation table offers three exceptional viewpoints: the surrounding villages, the magnificent green and blue river and the majestic Pyrenees on the horizon!

The estate is in Monein, the heart of the Jurançon AOC region and near to the church of St.Girons, a renowned historic monument. Archives reveal that in 1558 the estate had four hectares of vines and was called Caussepe. In 1980 Henri RAMONTEU took over the estate, which still covered four hectares. Now the vineyard extends to over 46 hectares of hillside, all south west facing the South-West. The plots of Gros Manseng are mostly kept for making dry whites, renowned for their crisp and rich aromas. The Petit Manseng, harvested successively, creates great sweet white wines, which evoke candied fruit, roasts, honey… the very essence of air dried grapes. When nature permits, the vines are left to grow on until the first winter frosts so that the very last grapes can be harvested with their unique taste which has been changed due to the extended growing season and exposure to colder weather

The orientation table is located in the village of Ogenne Camptort, about five kilometers from the fortified city of Navarrenx. It was set up by the Community of Communes following an architectural competition. Thanks to its seat with viewfinder, its bench and its table with markers of the peaks and localities, in good weather you can see the Pyrenees chain, the Rhune, the Pic du Midi de Bigorre and many others.

Located between Navarrenx, the "fortified city" of Béarn des gaves and Oloron-Sainte-Marie, the commune of Lay-Lamidou has a picnic table. This one is located just next to the wash-house which is on the left, at the exit of the village in the direction of Ogenne. You can stop there for your lunch, snack or dinner while taking full advantage of the nature that surrounds it After the meal, you can take a walk around the village. During the walk you will see the Pyrenees mountain range on the horizon, the mule bridge and landscaped hedges made up of different species of trees according to the seasons. Clos Uroulat is set on the hillsides of Monein, a village near Pau in the heart of the Jurançon AOC region, and near to the church of St. Girons. Charles Hours and his daughter Marie have set themselves a daily challenge; to preserve the authenticity of the taste of the local wines and grape varieties. They pay special attention to the four hectares of vines and land and this allows them to practise sustainable agriculture. This is a modern approach to winemaking and their success shows that it is working. Father and daughter have two distinct personalities and this has led to the development of two ranges, the ‘Tradi’ and the ‘Trendy’, which are traditional and new generation wines respectively. Jurançon purists may well prefer Charles’s traditional range whereas others may prefer Marie’s more modern twist.

On the way out of the village of Monein, heading towards Oloron Ste Marie, the Bellegarde domain is located at the top of a hillside, offering a spectacular view onto the Pyrénées from its orientation table. Pascal took over the family estate in 1985 and decided to begin winemaking and bottling the wine himself. Establishing cellars in 1986 allowed him to create his own style which has led to wines which can be drunk quite quickly but which are also able to be laid down. A hiking trail allows visitors to walk among the vines and appreciate the panoramic view of the Pyrénées from the orientation table.

In Monein, a village in the heart of the Jurançon ‘appellation contrôlée’ region, the restaurant dominates the central square. There is a great view of the covered market from its terrace and it is only a stone’s throw from the church of St.Girons, a historic monument with an amazing roof structure. The Estaminet has been a renowned family institution for over 20 years and offers traditional recipes featuring regional specialities such as foie gras, duck confit and ‘magret’ or duck breast. The traditional peasant soup from the region ‘garbure’ is a speciality and is made to a secret recipe by the chef.
