In 2019, Usseau joins with Priaires and Thorigny-sur-le-Mignon to form the new commune of Val-du-Mignon and becomes its chief town.

Thanks to archaeological excavations, we find traces of occupation of the Rochénard site since the end of the 1st century and the beginning of the 2nd century AD. The 1978-79 excavations revealed a cemetery with burnt human and animal bones, fragments of ceramics and glass, as well as coins dating from the Roman period. You can find them at the Pierre-Henri Mitard cultural space in Usseau. Since 1287, the name of the commune has been in constant evolution but the toponymy is quite similar. The culture of the vine is the main activity of the commune in the XIXth century but the phylloxera puts an end to it. The inhabitants turned to livestock and cereal farming. All the cycle routes in the Deux-Sèvres Marais Poitevin have the same markings. On these markers (wooden beams with a turquoise plate), are indicated the numbers of the circuits in black. Here, follow the Number 8. The circuits are marked out in both directions, there is no specific starting point, you can start your walk wherever you like. Be careful, the small paths can be used by motorized vehicles. Safety instructions - Wearing a helmet is highly recommended. I ride on the right. I respect the rules of the road. I check the condition of my bike (brakes and lighting). I stay on the marked paths. I respect the marsh, a sensitive and classified site.

Its name would be an alteration of forum (place of public meetings). In 1981, at Champ-Royal, excavations revealed the remains of an ancient vicus (small town) extending over three hectares with villas, baths, porticoes and forum. Mentioned for the first time in 1100, Fors is protected by its fortress, an advanced citadel of the castle of Niort erected by the Count of Poitou to delay the progression of attackers coming from the south. In 1494, the lord was Guy Poussard, a king's advisor, whose daughter Anne became the first mistress of the Count of Angouleme, the future Francis I, who would have built a manor house on the site of the castle. Our LOV'NID MIRA is a small one for lovers, perched 8 meters above the ground, in a small wood adjoining an orchard, near the river. It is a small spherical-shaped hut, a cosy little nest, offering a view of the sky thanks to a porthole placed above a vast circular bed. It is insulated with sheep's wool and covered with larch shingles. A wonderful place where you will share unforgettable moments as a lover or a family.. Access is via a large staircase with a douglas fir landing leading to a terrace surrounding the hut. A caravan is located at the foot of the hut with a table and benches convertible into a double bed. Both cabins are equipped with hot and cold water, electricity and heating.

Franchises were granted by the Earl of Poitiers in order to attract new inhabitants. Placed on the royal roads, it is in the 16th century. a place of passage of Protestant or Catholic troops. Before phylloxera, most of the commune is covered with vines producing a white wine from which a brandy as good as that of Cognac is taken. In 2018, it merged with Prissé-la-Charrière, Belleville and Boisserolles to form the new commune of Plaine d'Argenson and became a delegated commune. This former seigneurial estate was once called St-Martin-d'Augé. It included a priory close to the forest of Chizé. Where does this name come from? In the fourth century, Martin, then abbot of Ligugé, going from Availles-s.-Chizé to Mauzé-s.-le-Mignon, stopped there to evangelize the population. In 1804, the prefect Dupin wrote that "the wines, which constitute the most important income of the commune, are good, especially the whites. It is made an excellent brandy that is very close to that of Cognac". In 1928, the village takes the name of Boisserolles, located 1 km from Augé, mentioned in the 13th century. and where the town hall is located. In 2018, it merged with Prissé-la-Charrière, Belleville and St-Etienne-la-Cigogne to form the new commune of Plaine d'Argenson. The village, watered by the Mignon, is quoted for the first time in 1183. First in the hands of Aliénor d'Aquitaine, the seigneury became in 1346 the domain of the Comte d'Eu and Guines, connetable of France. Decapitated in 1350, her property was confiscated for the benefit of the Crown and later attributed to Marguerite de Valois, daughter of Charles VI. Then Charles VII gave it to Christin of Chambers, captain of his Scottish guard. In the middle of the 18th century, the parish was partly covered with communal wood. Sheep and a few oxen were raised there, and the vines were cultivated there until the phylloxera invasion in 1880. After the disappearance of Prissé-le-Grand, Belleville inherited the hamlet of Ayguis in 1888. In 2018, it merged with Prissé-la-Charrière, St-Etienne-la-Cigogne and Boisserolles to form the new commune of Plaine d'Argenson and become a delegated commune.

Built in 1100, Prissé was divided into two communes in 1790: Prissé-le-Petit and Prissé-le-Grand. The latter was then divided among several villages at the end of the 19th century, while Prissé-le-Petit, once again Prissé, merged with La Charrière in 1972. The Charrière, mentioned in 1243, is cosy sitting in a small valley and crossed by the Alleuds and Puits-Neuf streams. The Grand Bousseau in Prissé-la-Charrière (chief town of the new commune of the Plaine d'Argenson), located in the locality of La Charrière, the Grand Bousseau forest, Espace Naturel Sensible (ENS), is a relic of the forest massif of Argenson where beech wood is produced.

Located near the old mill, the former farm appears on the Napoleonic cadastre of 1819. Its main building is composed of two levels of elevation to the south corresponding to the living rooms; one to the north for the cellar and the barn. Its south façade has bolt holes with a flight stone, which testify to the presence of a dovecote. Inside, two fireplaces and a "kitchen garden" have been preserved. Opposite, the outbuildings (animal shelter and bakehouse), of more recent construction, delimit the courtyard.

The smallest municipality of Niort Agglo is named to distinguish it from that of Thorigné, close to Celles-s. -Belle. In the Middle Ages, the seigneury depended on the election of St-Jean-d'Angély, on the generality of La Rochelle and on the seigneury of Frontenay, hence a triple affiliation with the provinces of Saintonge, Aunis and Poitou, which led to complications. Thorigny’s heart is in the church of Notre-Dame and, with the smallest number of inhabitants, forms a large family. The church was built in 1041 by the abbey of Saint-Maixent. In the 14th century, a fee of three gold florins was paid to the bishop of Saintes. A national asset during the Revolution, the sanctuary was demolished by its purchaser and the parish was attached to that of Belleville. A subscription launched by the inhabitants and a subsidy from the State led in 1829 to the blessing of the new church by the dean of Beauvoir-sur-Niort. In 1851, the parish priest was installed after the purchase of a presbytery. Since 1908, the parish has depended on Saint-Etienne-la-Cigogne. Two Franco-Polish volunteer youth work camps have created a fresco and three stained glass windows for the building, as well as the openwork gateway to the cemetery depicting a rising sun (a reference to the sunflower, called the sun, which adorns the street signs and echoes the sunflower in the church fresco).

The absence of decoration on the facades and the simple frames reflect a modest habitat turned towards agriculture. Thorigny has the Notre-Dame church at its heart and, with the smallest number of inhabitants, forms a large family. The village is a farming and stockbreeding centre, and every summer it organises farmers' markets in its park, as well as its traditional country fair on the last weekend in August. It is also the starting point for four hiking and mountain bike trails.
