Located a few kilometres from Soulac-sur-Mer, this route offers a diversity of landscapes: maritime pine forests, marshes.. The itinerary that we propose to you borrows several types of ways: streets in the city center, a cycle track, a forest road and a forest road in limestone. There is no continuous signposting throughout the walk, but the paths are logical and the description of the itinerary will be enough to guide you.

This easy loop combines two UNESCO World Heritage sites. After a visit to the Basilique Notre-Dame-de-la-fin-des-Terres, the tour takes you through the narrow streets of the pretty seaside resort, from the colorful houses of Soulac to the bunkers of the Atlantic Wall in the village of Les Arros. You walk along the beach, with the Cordouan lighthouse towering over the horizon. You'll ride along a dune line populated by oyats, laurel, yucca, broom and arbutus. ArrayYour Experience Built facing the Atlantic, the Tour Saint-Nicolas (14th century), the Tour de la Chaîne (14th century) and the Tour de la Lanterne (12th and15th century) are remains of an extensive fortification system undertaken by the City of La Rochelle. These three towers have served as lighthouses, fortified defenses, living quarters, and even political prisons. The largest of the three is The Saint-Nicolas tower built with walls up to six meters thick and adorned with a maze of stairways, passages, and rooms. The highlight here is perhaps the descent: choose either the easy staircase or the steep, slippery 'double helix' staircase. The Chain tower, regarded as sacrosanct in the Protestant period, was originally constructed to monitor all port traffic and now houses an interesting series of exhibits depicting the role of La Rochelle in the migration of French people to Canada. The Lantern Tower which is relatively new when compared to the other two was built keeping functionality in mind and had served different purposes in the Middle Ages. The only medieval lighthouse on the Atlantic Coast that is still standing, this tower bears a remarkable palette of graffiti, carved into the walls by pirates and prisoners who were incarcerated there after it was converted to a prison.

You can book either the "Étage" (upstairs) of the house, which can accommodate 1 to 4 people, with its two bedrooms and bathroom, or the "Annexe", which is a room in a wooden chalet in the garden, with its own shower room and separate entrance to the property. The Cordouan lighthouse, located at the mouth of the Gironde estuary, is the only lighthouse on the French coast still manned, the oldest still in operation and the only one in the world open to visitors. An absolutely unique site, it offers an exceptional view of the Gironde and the coasts of Royandy and the Médoc as a reward for climbing the 311 steps leading up to the lantern. Its classification as a Monument Historique in 1862, the same year as Notre-Dame de Paris, speaks volumes for the beauty of its castle-like architecture. The rocky islet on which it rests, completely covered at high tide, shelters an environment rich in plant and animal species. At low tide, the guardians welcome visitors, inviting them to discover this magical world. Without doubt, an unforgettable experience.

The Pointe de Grave is the extreme north of the Médoc, between Bordeaux and the Atlantic Ocean. It is located at the mouth of the Gironde Estuary, opposite the town of Royan. This geographical configuration, unique in France, makes it of great ornithological interest during pre-marital migration: the "funnel" effect concentrates the birds that migrate along the coast and those that, further inland, are reluctant to cross the estuary and follow the bank to its end. These two flows then converge above the Pointe de Grave before crossing the estuary in the direction of the Charente-Maritime and, beyond, towards Northern Europe and Siberia LPO Aquitaine coordinates the scientific monitoring of the migration, carried out every year from March to May. More than a hundred species are observed during the three months of monitoring.
