Situated in the heart of the village of Pontmain, close to the basilica, its arboretum and a magnificent forest, your host Martine offers you the comfortable and modern flat "Auprès de mon arbre" on the first and top floor of a local stone house. The 75 m2 flat can accommodate 2 to 3 people and comprises : - a living room with a fully-equipped kitchen (oven, hob, coffee maker, fridge and microwave), dining room and sitting area - a bedroom with a double bed and a single bed - bathroom with bath, separate toilet - a laundry room with washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing board, steam generator and hoover. Alongside the Mont Saint-Michel Wonder, Coutances cathedral is the most famous monument of Gothic art in Normandy. Erected in the first decades of the 13th century, the current building reuses major sections of the 11th century Roman cathedral, which you will discover during your visit. You will be able to walk through the upper galleries of the nave and choir, the lantern tower, the frameworks, admire the Gothic stained glass windows and follow the various steps of the constructions.

Situated at the entrance to the town gardens, the museum collections are sheltered in a former town-house dating from the 17th century. The main themes of its collection are paintings and graphic arts, religious sculptures and traditional pottery from the Cotentin area.

Created between 1852 and 1855, the public gardens are amongst the oldest in Normandy. They offer a harmonious marriage of French symmetry, English coppicing and Italian terracing, a place which encourages strolling and daydreaming.

The main part of Saint Nicolas Church, former parish church of Coutances, dates from the 16th & 17th centuries. It is a fine example of the late Gothic style. The chancel is particularly light.

Rebuilt at the end of the 15th century and during 16th century, Saint Pierre Church juxtaposes a flamboyant Gothic style with that of the Renaissance, culminating in the superb lantern.

Built in several stages from the 15th to 17th century, on orders of the lords of Gratot, the d'Argouges, the original chapel became a hermitage in 1620, and remained so up to the last occupant in 1830. The outstanding site became a listed building in 1995, was restored in the years 2000, and represents one of the rare examples of surviving hermitages in France. Outside, interpretation tables, accessible at all times, explain the history, architecture and recount the legend of the saint and the life of the hermits.
