This small walk without great difficulty will offer you at first, a very beautiful sight on the valley of the Gélise and thereafter, a walk on the paths of the Landaise forest.

This narrow and deep green valley conceals treasures of surprises: towns with a strong personality, rich and luxuriant vegetation. To discover them, follow the old railway line from Sos to Mézin.

The sand of the Landes and the clay of the valleys, the cultivated forest of pines and the older and wilder forest of oaks, hazel trees and acacias, this is a walk full of contrasts in the heart of nature. Shortly after the start you will discover the site of Gueyze with the old castle and the fortified mill of the 15th century and its church of the 11th century with the trefoil apse. After the monument dedicated to the resistance fighters of Nerac, you will cross the Gueyze. You will then take a long forest path which leads to the clearing surrounding the church of Meylan. After the town hall, sandy or sandy paths cross coniferous plantations, but also hornbeam, acacia and oak woods. Cross the Gueyze again on a two-arched bridge to reach the town hall.

On this small and contrasted circuit you will first discover the sand of the Landes and the pine forest cultivated in the north. In the south the clay soil of the Gueyze valley is planted with oaks and various and various species of hardwoods.

To find peace and quiet and recharge your batteries far from the big cities, this itinerary combines a walk in the woods and a stroll through the vineyards between the churches of the two parishes of Saint-Pé and Saint-Simon.

To capture the spirit of this small country reminiscent of Italy, this itinerary offers low-angle views of Poudenas from the Gélise, and panoramic images as you pass over the hillsides. The village is located on the northern slope of the Gélise valley, on the border between Armagnac and the Gascony forest. Over the centuries, it was built around its castle, built in the 13th century, to control the valley, then it developed on the slope down to the river. Butcheries were established in the 19th century and continued until the 20th century. The economy of Poudenas is based primarily on its pine forests and vineyards of Armagnac. The wheat mill of Poudenas also visible on this circuit was built in the 16th century on the banks of the Gélise.

From Réaup to Lisse, associated communes, this long hike will make you discover, from some viewpoints at the edge of the massif, the different species of the Landes forest: oaks, cork oaks, pines... The natural resources of Réaup make it a village of workers, but above all of gemmakers and lumberjacks organized in a "mutual aid society" since the 19th century. Along this route, you will see the castle and the chapel of Lisse, its parish church and those of Réaup and Cieuse. You will also pass by many pigeon houses and not far from the lake of Lislebonne situated in the heart of an oak forest which, with its leisure centre, welcomes many tourists.

After a train journey from Nérac to Mézin, we suggest that you return via the hiking trails that run along the edge of the Landes forest. You will walk through portions of different loops and may cross paths with pilgrims on their way to Compostela between Mézin and Cauderoue.

An old XIXth century farmhouse, the Planéra gîte takes its name from a majestic hundred-year-old tree standing in front of its facade (a Siberian Abalone).

On its promontory, Sos dominates the Gueyze and Gélise valleys. The Gallic people of the Sotiates resisted the troops of Julius Caesar who mentions it in his book "La Guerre des Gaules". The town offers vestiges of the Middle Ages, in particular the presence on the renovated square of the ground markings of the entire old church, which was a beautiful Romanesque building. Sos belonged to Henry IV and later saw the birth of Jean de Silhon, one of the first Academicians, and was the village of Emmanuel Delbousquet, a local poet and storyteller.

Built near a Gallo-Roman site, the church of Gueyze preserves a superb set of Romanesque capitals: fruit-eating lions, confronting birds, Christ in a mandorla, Chrism, plant and floral motifs and Romanesque modillions from the 11th and 12th centuries. The nave is slightly later. The cloverleaf-shaped choir in a semi-circular chevet is wider than the nave. The church has an open-walled bell tower with two campanile bays. Listed as a Historic Monument in 1925, only the apse is protected.
