Pupetières, burned down during the Revolution and rebuilt in 1861 by Eugène Viollet le Duc. This neo gothic castle is one of the masterpieces of architecture from the nineteenth century. The polychrome glazed tiles, the interiors, are the witnesses of what was the revival of decorative art at that time. Welcome to MALP for a captivating time travel to the Neolithic and the year 1000. Through the exceptional remains discovered under the waters of the lake, meet the men who lived there so long ago. Thanks to its remains and many legends, Lake Paladru has always been able to feed the imagination of its visitors. It was only during the 19th century, with the discoveries of Ernest Chantre, and the 20th century, with the excavations of Hyppolite Müller, that the history of the first archaeological sites, which emerged from the waters of the lake, was revealed. Over the years, the work of archaeologists escalated and became more specific. It was in 1972 that the archaeological sites of Lake Paladru received both national and international recognition. The lake soon became a site of experimentation for innovative excavation techniques, as well as a unique site in France, for the rarity of its findings. The museum is a history of encounters, sharing, discoveries, secrets and ideas which intertwine in and around the lake. It is also a history of a village and its inhabitants, all of whom, in one way or another, have encountered the lake and its history.

A former outbuilding of the Sylve Bénite Carthusian Monastery, the Grange Dîmière dates from 1655. With its stone walls, monumental porch and remarkable structure, rising to a height of 18m, today it offers the perfect location for staging contemporary, ceramic sculpture exhibitions. 5km long, 1km wide and 392 ha in surface area, it is the 5th largest natural glacial lake in France. Did you know that, in addition to giving the lake its beautiful turquoise color, the lake chalk that covers its bottom is good for the skin? Shaped during the Ice Age, its banks were home to one of the Isère's 1st human communities in 2700 BC (the Neolithic village of Les Baigneurs). Later, knights from the An Mil period settled on the Colletière site. The remains unearthed during numerous archaeological digs are now on display in the new Musée archéologique du lac de Paladru ( MALP ) in Paladru. The site is also remarkable for its 7 protected natural areas, including the Grands Roseaux to the north of the lake, an ideal nesting ground for birds (mallards, swans, coots and great crested grebes) and spawning grounds for fish (carp, tench, etc.); these reed beds remain inaccessible. To discover the flora and fauna, take the greenway to join the marsh path, which has 4 discovery stations. At a depth of 36 m, its temperature rises to 25° in summer. It is fed by two tributaries, the ruisseau de Courbon and the ruisseau du Pin. At its southern end, the overflow is evacuated via an outfall that forms the La Fure spring. Water is released via surface sluice gates, combined with a weir when the lake's "zero" level is exceeded, and via a deep-water draw-off device (siphon at -30 m), which discharges into the Fure 5 m downstream of the sluice gates. The lake is accessible via 4 municipal beaches: 3 are fee-paying (plages du Pin, Paladru and Montferrat) and 1 is free (plage de Chararvines). SWIMMING is permitted ONLY on these supervised beaches. Animals are not allowed on the beaches. 2 recreation areas, Le Bois d'Amour in Charavines and La Verronière in Montferrat, are freely accessible for picnics by the lake. Built in 1805, this remarkable adobe and thatch structure is one of the finest examples of traditional architecture in the Voironnais region. The barn can be visited with a guide by prior arrangement. With a double-wishbone frame and no central pillar support, this roof has been thatched since it was built in 1805. Designed to house the herds and winter feed of a very large farm, this intact building will take you on a journey through farming history from Napoleon 1st to the present day. We often mistake one for the other, yet the difference is simple : the hoof is entirely shaped from a piece of wood, while the clog is composed of a wooden sole on which is nailed the upper part, the "Tige", made of leather. The clog, disregarded in most shoe museums, is highlighted in Isère in the only place entirely dedicated to it in France : the Clog museum. Great by the evocative power, this summary of heritage carries the memory of the clog's industrial activity. This museum is a place of memory, with the identical reconstruction of the workshop of a galochier (persons who makes clogs), which makes it a unique site in France.
