Hiking trail "The Chestnut trees". This walk will help you discover the hidden treasures of the traditional architecture of the Châtaigneraie, from the 16th century church to the beautiful farms with closed courtyards and entrance porches. The chestnut is celebrated every year in October during the famous Chestnut Fair which attracts thousands of visitors. You can also visit the Maison de la Châtaigne, a museum dedicated to the fruit of the “breadfruit” tree. The interest of this themed trail, mainly in the undergrowth, lies in the creation of a dozen panels, placed along the route, on the marvellous world of bees and in the panoramas that you will contemplate along the way. Nicknamed “the little Nizza from Cantal", squeezed around its squat bell tower, the town of Maurs has retained the almost perfect circle shape given to it by its ramparts and which is now home to the welcoming Tour de Ville, built on the old moat. Take a stroll through its narrow streets with their southern flavour and discover its medieval architecture. Then head out into the surrounding area on the Cardalhac trail. You will appreciate the gentle landscape and the superb views over the Maurs Basin, the Mounts of Cantal, Lot and Aveyron. Hiking trail "The glacial basin". The village is situated on a tongue of schist in the relief and dominates an ancient glacial valley on both sides. It is surrounded by a fortified enclosure called The Fort, the gate of which still remains. The route overlooks and skirts the glacial basin of Leynhac, a rare phenomenon in the Châtaigneraie. Hiking trail "The Causses trail" A small village perched on the remains of the old fortress, Montmurat is strongly influenced by the southern climate, which has given it an extraordinary flora: lily of the valley, boxwood, wild asparagus, vines and orchids. Take the time to stroll through the narrow streets of the village, the Mediterranean influenced architecture is remarkable. From the plateau (after the starting point, access on the D345), this path will also allow you to discover an exceptional 360° panorama of the Lot, Aveyron and Cantal. Saint-Constant and Fournoulès have been a single commune since 2016. Yet two very different atmospheres prevail: Saint-Constant looks a little like Aveyron, while Fournoulès has a more mountainous atmosphere.

Museum on the unique history of the “double village” of Saint-Santin that delimits two communes, two departments, and even two regions! Marie-Pierre in Cantal and Pierre-Marie in Aveyron remember and share with you the daily life of the people of Saint-Santin at the end of the 19th century, a life that is strange, funny and moving...

Saint-Santin is an unusual village. It's hard to imagine driving through it, given its modest size, the fact that it is divided into two communes and straddles two départements and even two regions!

About 30 species of wild orchids are present on these few hectares which gather a quarter of the French flora and more than half of the Auvergne flora in orchids. The climate of the limestone mounds (former lake basin) located between Saint-Santin-de-Maurs and Montmurat is one of the mildest and driest in Cantal. These conditions give the landscapes, agriculture and natural environments a pronounced southern character. Free access on foot from the village of Saint-Santin-de-Maurs. The animal and plant species living on this Natura 2000 site are protected, so be careful.

In a protected environment, this charming and characterful place, classified as a sensitive natural area, lends itself to relaxation. The Moulin du Fau estate consists of approximately 7 hectares of land located on the banks of the Rance, about 1 km from the centre of Maurs. This site includes an old grain mill and a barn, a complex network of feeder and diversion canals, a fish pond and meadows. It's very easy to walk around the pond (about 1 km).

The Châtaigneraie Ecomuseum. A playful discovery of the chestnut production history and present in the region. A 1950s grocery store, an oven, a typical chestnut dryer, a medieval tunnel, but also an orchard, a tree nursery and diverse animals complete the tour. You will taste a chestnut specialty and you will find a range of chestnut products in the shop. You can also enjoy a coffee, wooden games, a parent-powered merry-go-round and lots of other little discoveries!

As in many Châtaigneraie villages, Le Trioulou has a pretty church and a picturesque castle with turrets. But there's something, or rather someone, you won't find anywhere else: Mélia the bee!

Maurs is the southern version of Auvergne. It has a lilting accent and the town's appearance is more akin to its neighbours in Lot or Aveyron than to the other Cantal towns. It's not called the Little Nice of Cantal for nothing... The town is squeezed around the Abbey of St. Caesarius, a 14th century gothic vessel, and has retained the almost perfect circular shape of its ramparts. The abbey church contains the reliquary bust of Caesarius, a masterpiece of 12th century goldsmith's art, as well as a collection of beautiful wooden statues and sculpted stalls, unique in Auvergne. Wednesday visits in French at 10:30 am in July and August.

The heart of the Châtaigneraie beats to the rhythm of the River Rance. It serves as a backdrop for the many cyclists who take the cycle route between Maurs and Marcolès, which is part of the Grande Traversée du Volcan à Vélo (“Crossing the Volcano”) or GT2V. This route follows the winding course of the river and offers plenty of coolness in summer. Its history has been shaped by mills, railways and hydroelectricity.

The scenographic space of the Lot Valley will take you into the life of the men of the valley at the beginning of the last century, through dynamic and interactive staging! In 2022 the brand new dynamic space “Olt Explorer” opened its doors! Come and meet the Lot’s wildlife aboard a… virtual submarine! In 2024, open from 04/23 to 11/05.

L'Auberge de Mourjou, with its restaurant and guest rooms, has been open since 18 March 2024. Daily menu from Monday 12pm to Friday 2pm. Chef Kara Asatryan's menu is available for lunch and dinner on Saturdays and lunch on Sundays. Booking recommended. The chef's menu consists of a choice of two starters, a choice of two main courses and a choice of two desserts. The menu changes every 2 weeks according to the season and her inspiration.
