In Sarralbe we ride along the cycle path along the Saar Canal towards Bissert. After 4 kilometres we see the buildings of the former stud farm of the Duke of Lorraine dating from 1717, then 2 kilometres further on, the vast meadows of the Saar valley classified as "Natura 2000". In Bissert, the gateway to Alsace, we cross the small bridge over the Canal, which we now leave, and continue on the small municipal road, following the Velo visavis signs to the village of Hinsingen, a small, typically Alsatian rural village. We continue downhill on the municipal road to the small village of Kirviller and cross the small bridge over the river Albe, then we go up the hill and through the village to the edge of the forest. At the end of the village, on the edge of a vast forest, we take the cycle track which sometimes runs alongside, sometimes through this forest as far as the calvary near the village of Hazembourg. Magnificent views of the surrounding forests and villages with shaded rest areas. We take the local road through the village of Hazembourg to Kappelkinger. We pass through the village of Kappelkinger and then take the local road to the village of Hilsprich, following a flat route through a flat landscape. We cross the village of Hilsprich and then follow the cycle track towards the Castviller annex and the Holving lake. We join the Hirbach annex in Holving and then find the cycle track in the direction of Hinsing and Sarralbe. We continue along the cycle path through forests and meadows and then along the river Albe to Eich, one of the Sarralbe annexes. Then we cross the annex of Eich to the old "Cemetery of the Mountain". Here we have the opportunity to visit the Holy Trinity Chapel, a place of pilgrimage where the Lords of Sarralbe from the 14th and 15th centuries are buried. From the chapel, there is a panoramic view of the Albe valley and the town of Sarralbe. We take the cycle path opposite the cemetery which leads down to the "canal bridge", the first structure of this type built in France. At the level of the canal bridge and the old defence works of the "Maginot Line", we take the cycle ramp which allows us to access the towpath of the Canal, then we quietly join our starting point at about 1 kilometre distance. Must-sees in Sarralbe: the old town, the Albe Gate, the Grand Moulin, the Saar Cathedral, the Maginot Aquatic Line Museum, the stork nesting grounds tour. In Sarralbe, you only have to look up to see storks. 31 nests are installed on the roofs. The stork trail offers, over 14 stations, a discovery of the city's heritage and the daily life of the migratory bird. Sarralbe has nothing to envy the Alsatian communes! On the roofs of the town hall, the Saar cathedral, the mill... storks' nests abound. There are about thirty of them and they are all occupied. The huge banner on the Albe Gate and the photographic reproductions on the windows of the library are reminders of the migratory bird. Starting from the Albe quay, the white stork becomes a guide to show the old town of Sarralbe, which is rich in historical and heritage treasures: the Albe gate, one of the last vestiges of the 11th century fortified town, the Maison des Têtes (Heads' House), built in 1737, the old post office with its half-timbered walls and balcony from 1728, the Massing castle, the provost's house, etc. The wader explains to the public his life as a migratory bird, the characteristics of his habitat, his reproduction periods, the specificities of his baggage and the many legends that are attached to him. To complete the 1.7 km route through the streets and alleys, simply follow the ground markings, bronze plaques are anchored in the ground. Explanatory panels on the walls, facades or on desks provide explanations... Look at the orientation of the stork's beak and follow it.

Located between Sarralbe and Hoste, in an exceptional landscape setting, this cycle route leads you to discover the Albe valley and a series of ponds, former ramparts of the Maginot Aquatic Line.

It was built to establish a natural barrier to the advance of German troops during the Second World War. As the flow of the Mutterbach River was too low and irregular, the reservoir ponds (6 in number) were able to feed the diversion bays in all circumstances by means of an emptying system and to flood the area in 36 hours. Today, these ponds have found a beautiful reconversion in fishing and tourism: - Etang de Diefenbach: this is the largest of these ponds in terms of surface area, capacity and height of the dike. - Etang des Marais de Rémering: a peaceful valley situated between two forests which, at the beginning of the 1930s, became a military reservoir pond intended to supply the "Venice of the front". - Hirbach - Holving pond: remains of the "Casemate of Remembrance", dam built on the road, dike leading from Holving to Hirbach, Hirbach pond, built to flood the valley (now an open-air leisure centre in Holving).

Created between 1935 and 1940, the Sarre defensive sector, more commonly known as the aquatic Maginot Line, utilizes natural watercourses and rivers in flood-prone areas. This Sarre gap was designed to fill the void between two fortified regions: Metz and Lauter. Starting from Sarralbe, famous for its Saint-Martin church nicknamed the cathedral of the Sarre, whose two Gothic spires soar 70 meters high, the route continues through the ponds to Puttelange-aux-Lacs, towards Sarreguemines.

On site, you will find the trail under the following name: LE LION COURONNÉ This route invites you to discover the natural surroundings of Hambach. On its coat-of-arms, a crowned lion in red and black on a gold background, holding a green stem adorned with three roses. You will enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, particularly when passing by the large cross at Liesberg, as well as the tranquility of the forest. As you progress along the route, the landscape evolves: residential houses give way to a bucolic environment. You will walk amidst fields filled with round bales in summer and pass by the 9-meter-high cross (1939), which is said to have been erected to protect the village, and whose view extends far into the horizon. Following the hilly path leading to the Grosskatzerwald, you will be surrounded by a beautiful rural landscape worthy of a postcard... A special moment of calm with a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside. This invitation to relaxation continues into the forest, where you can be carried away by the energy of the trees and lulled by the song of birds. A wooden bench nestled in a small clearing is the perfect refuge for a serene break, a secret haven in the heart of nature. Along a pretty path, oaks, beeches, and Scots pines offer shade and coolness in summer, as well as beautiful orange hues in autumn. Exiting the forest, you will continue on the bike path that will lead you to Hambach, passing just behind the Europôle de Sarreguemines. The EuroVelo 5 leads along the towpaths of the Sarre and Rhine-Marne canals. The Sarre canal was once used to carry coal from Lorraine to Alsace and Germany and was inaugurated in 1866. From Sarreguemines, famous for its earthenware, it winds through the magnificent valley of the river Saar, crosses Alsace Bossue and then the Lorraine Regional Nature park. In Gondrexange the Sarre canal joins the Rhine Marne canal. Built at the same period as the Paris-Strasbourg railway line, the Marne-Rhine canal was opened in 1853. After leaving Sarrebourg and the Lorraine plateau, by the Saint Louis Arzviller inclined plane that enables the canal to bypass a set of 17 locks since 1969, the cycle trail plunges down into the valley of locks and the Zorn valley through the plain of Alsace to Strasbourg.

On site, you will find the trail under the following name: CIRCUIT DU LAVOIR Starting from Siltzheim or Wittring this roundabout route creates a connecting point between two villages along a part of the Saar river. This route of more than 12 km promises a pleasant and leisurely walk, be it for half a day or the entirety of it, depending on your own rhythm as well as the pauses you may want to take, in order to take in the landscape to its fullest. This ever-changing and rich in contrast walking path leads along a bicycle trail, which connects Siltzheim to Wittring, over a larger portion of the route. The towpath, favoured spot by regular walkers as well as cyclists, allows a stroll in all its quietness on the side of the river. While strolling you will pass under the aqueduct of Siltzheim, an unusual passage, and will enjoy the bucolic sights towards Dieding and its mill. Halfway through, starting from Wittring, a relaxing break is a must at the restored old washhouse, called the “Gutebrunne” site in Siltzheim. This charming treasure trove of nature, crossed by a small river, invites for a moment of serenity offering a true peace harbour in enchanting surroundings. The second part of the itinerary offers an immersion in the calm and varied landscapes. It begins with a walk in the woods, with passages under natural hedges that form a tunnel of vegetation. Thereafter, you will go along wind turbines, offering a breathtaking view. Put on your hiking shoes and set off on a hike that combines history and nature through the commune of Neufgrange, then on to Rémelfing, Zetting, and Siltzheim! The "In the Footsteps of the Spiritans" circuit offers a beautiful loop of 11.2 km, starting from the village of Neufgrange. From the very first steps, you will be immersed in the heritage of the Spiritan Fathers: their former convent, outbuildings, cemetery, and chapel still tell the story of their lives in this place today. A stone's throw away are Saint-Joseph School, now an elementary school, and the former castle, which has become the village hall. After this immersion in local heritage, dive into nature for a forest bath. By taking narrow paths through the Wackenkopf forest, enjoy a breath of fresh air and a true disconnection. Here, you will walk in a soothing atmosphere, surrounded by a beautiful diversity of tree species: majestic oaks stand alongside elegant beeches, while maples add a splash of color in every season. The circuit then alternates with wider paths that border fields, offering gentle slopes and stunning views of the surrounding countryside for over a kilometer. This landscape is marked by round bales in the summer and punctuated by historical markers from the 18th century, where you can still glimpse dates almost erased by time, sometimes hidden under vegetation. A pause is essential to admire a viewpoint in the northern part of the loop, offering breathtaking views of the surroundings. A sign installed in front of the Neufgrange town hall will provide you with information about the marked route of this trail. - Alternative route: a shorter version of the loop (7.6 km) can be taken by cutting at the "Wackenkopf" crossroads in one direction or at "Bruehlberg" in the other. - Connections: shared section with the “Through the Ages” trail (Au fil des Époques - 9.4 km). Museum Gaspar is housed in the residence of the middle-class family Gaspar from Arlon who had set up in this house (1893) that was built in 1842. It was renovated in 2004. The two most famous members of this family are animal sculptor Jean-Marie Gaspar (1861-1931) and Charles Gaspar (1971-1950) who was a photographer and a sponsor. He gave his house to the town of Arlon on the condition they make a museum of it, dedicated to his brother's work and that put into honour the history and the heritage of Arlon. At the first floor, theree are two restored salons identical to a middle-class salon from the early 20th century that show Jean-Marie Gaspar's sculptures. and the art and picture collection of Charles Gaspar. The rest of the first floor is dedicated to temporary exhibitions of the museum that alternates artv and history. A religion room shows collections about the abbey of Orval and to the people's devotion at the 18th century, and also relics from the ancient Saint-Martin church. But the Masterpiece is the famous altarpiece Retable de Fisenne - a 16th century masterpiece from the Antwerp school. It was bought in 1893 by a middle-class family from Arlon, the family Gaspar. Jean Gaspar (1861-1931) was a sculptor. He was trained by the Antwerp sculptor Jef Lambeaux. His works are in bronze and in plaster and they are exhibited in the salons that have been restorated as they were in his house. His brother Charles (1871-1950) was a photographer, a collector and a sponsor. He gave this house to the town of Arlon. It hosts the library of the Archaeological Institute of the Belgian Province of Luxembourg and its secretary office since 1954. A wide part of the museum is also dedicated to temporary exhibitions about art and history of Arlon.

Rich in the Gallo-Roman past of Arlon, the museum houses an impressive collection that bears witness to the daily life of this period.One of the peculiarities of the museum is its imposing and rich lapidary collection, composed of several dozen fragments of ancient funerary monuments.These blocks and the objects from Roman craftsmanship will teach you more about daily life at that time.

Formerly the town hall and cantonal court, this elegant 18th century municipal building, superbly restored in 1998, owes its current name to the admirable sculptures that adorn its façade. Since 1995, it has housed the seven rooms of the Historical Museum of the Alba Region and the Maginot Aquatic Line. A true house of heritage, it allows you to discover the military, religious, industrial and craft heritage of Sarralbe and the surrounding area. It is also the only museum of the aquatic Maginot Line. Permanent exhibition on the Maginot Aquatic Line.

This cathedral was built in 1907 on the waterfront. It is located next to an old mill and forms a beautiful architectural ensemble with the Saar bridge and the old gate dating from the 13th century. This unconventional building does not lack charm. When you enter the church, you will be surprised by the narthex, the "vestibule" leading to the left to the old baptismal font. The view over the choir is panoramic. Unfortunately, the beautiful carved pulpit was badly damaged during the events of 1940. To the left, you can admire the fine carvings and biblical messages that decorate the only original confessional. All that remains of the gallery organ is a row of decorative pipes. A new organ, decorated with Sarralbe's emblematic frog, occupies the right apse. The main altar is original and was designed by the architect Rüppel. With its richly decorated statues and bas-reliefs, this altar alone is a teaching tool for the faithful.

Created in 1999, the Association "les Amis du Gutebrunne et du Patrimoine de Siltzheim" has rebuilt the old wash house and developed the surrounding site... With a dozen volunteers, the Association ensures the regular maintenance of this enchanting and restful setting, a place for walks and meetings for the inhabitants of the village. The Association organises a festival every year in June on the site of the washhouse. To get there: rue de l'Eglise, turn right after the Mairie (towards the cemetery), walk along the cemetery and go down to the washhouse along the small path.

The furniture of the Saint Vit church in Roth have been registered in the list of the historical monuments in 1977. Indeed, among them there is in the chorus a High-Altar from the 18th century richly decorated, coming from Hambach’s church. In a medallion in the antependium (decoration in front of the altar), a polychrome represents the Nativity, the door of the tabernacle the Paschal lamb and in the central niche, the Annunciation in relief. Four little statues of 48 cm high in wood decorate the lateral niches; four angels decorate the cornice formed from a huge crown and a cross. It is a gothic church of which it is impossible to know the exact date of construction. However, the front door of the nave of this building indicates 1721. The tower has been filed as a historical monument in 1916, then unfiled in 1927. With its 15 meters high, it served as sacristy until the building of a new one in 1899 in the extension of the chorus. It is supported by two buttresses whose pediment is decorated in the south-east by a ridiculous human head with bat ears and in the south-west by a kind of ivy leaf. A small door in the west permits the access to the upper stage of the tower. Formerly, Saint Vit church was also surrounded by a fortified cemetery of which there is some elements left on the outer wall.

Zetting’s church, which has been rebuilt in the 15th century, contains a round tower from the 11th century, a nave and a gothic chorus. Renovation works permitted to discover frescos from the Renaissance, delicate and ornamented. The stained-glass windows from the 15th century deserve the travel, they are the most beautiful of Lorraine with those of Metz’ Cathedral and can be admired almost in their entirety.

It is a splendid three-swings-mill from 1727, restored in 1990, which remains the ‘thing to see’ in this village. Its waterwheel is a delight for the young and old alike.

This is a forest of 140 hectares where you can walk along the cultivation paths. Some centenary oak-trees have recently been highlighted by the town.

Grundviller’s calvary, from the 16th century, is files as a historical monument. It is one of the most majestic calvary of Lorraine and its dating is evaluated at 1515. The upper part represents the Christ in cross. By his side, there is his mother and the apostle John, at the foot of the cross, Mary-Magdalene. The lower part presents the story of the passion of the Christ with 8 sculpted panels: 6 on the front and 2 on the side. On a skull lies a medallion on the top of which sits a crown: it symbolizes the 2 ends of the human variety. Behind, you can see the Christ in the tomb. Until 1939, the calvary was erected near the cemetery, close to the Saint Ann chapel, destroyed in 1872. At the beginning of the hostilities, the monument has been taken to pieces and transferred to Cognac. It occupies its today place since 1941.

This chapel is a former fortified church and is filed as a historical monument. The tower nearby the place of worship was erected in the 13th century. Formerly it permitted to the population to shelter while the invaders came. The chapel shelters a wood-statue of the Virgin Mary and her Child (13th century) and also a wood-effigy of Saint Ann (18th century) which is admired by numerous tourists and informed art-lover

This church has been built in 1832 on the place of the former church of 1735 because it has become too small for parishioners of Wiesviller and Woelfling. The furniture from 1740 situated in the former church has been transferred in the new one. Today it is filed in the inventory of the historical furniture.

The spaces are marked with horizontal and vertical signs. Parking is limited to 2 days (48 hours) The area does not benefit from any specific services. The motorhome parking area is located next to the cultural and sports centre, and 200m from the town centre.

The river stop of Sarralbe is located on the canal des Houillères de la Sarre, near to the bridge which connect the city centre. The boats are admitted for 48 hours maximum.

Pierre de Lune is a spacious flat located in the centre of Sarralbe. It can accommodate up to 6 people! Its proximity to the main road and its nested balcony offers both relaxation and speed of travel with less than 1min from the A4 Sarreguemines/Metz/Nancy/Strasbourg and Europôle 1 and 2. Willerwald is also 2 minutes from the Alsatian border and 10 minutes from the German border. La Grange is a F3 with a balcony. It has a fully equipped kitchen, a shower room and a separate toilet. The large living area combines kitchen, dining room, lounge, office space and possibly a bedroom. The kitchen is equipped with all the necessary dishes and utensils for your meals, including a kettle, a filter coffee machine and a blender. On your arrival, Rebecca will have taken care of preparing the bedding and household linen for you. Gilles and/or Rebecca will be there to give you the keys and welcome you to La Grange.
