From Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, the route gradually leaves the coast and enters the Var hinterland, heralding a demanding day. The first major climb leads to Mont Faron, the emblematic lookout point overlooking Toulon, where the one-way road rises steadily before offering breathtaking views over the harbor. The route then continues on to Mont Coudon, a wilder massif with more accessible slopes, saving energy for the final ascent. Finally, the last part of the route leads to Mont Caume, the highest point of the itinerary and of the Toulon mountains. This final ascent, the longest and most demanding, concludes the route with a sustained effort, rewarded by panoramic views over Provence and the Mediterranean. From the very first kilometers, the road gradually rises to reach the limestone reliefs that dominate the coastline, offering constant views of the Mediterranean. The route des Crêtes is splendid, but watch out for the steep descent to Cassis! The itinerary links sustained climbs, exposed false flats and winding descents on a completely asphalted surface. The roads, often narrow and panoramic, wind through the heart of the Calanques massif, between white cliffs, pine forests and natural balconies overlooking the sea. With almost 1,700 m of positive vertical drop, this difficulty 2/3 route is a complete, fast-paced outing, ideal for building endurance and effort management, while discovering one of Provence's finest road bike playgrounds. A route that's both sporty and touristy, where every climb is rewarded with exceptional scenery.

Starting from the Calanque of Port d’Alon, this sportive path is drawn at the top of the coastal cliffs and overhangs the shore until the Pointe Fauconnière. Go exploring the preserved nature, beautiful landscapes and confidential coves. The start of this sporty hike, rich in sublime scenery and views, is at the end of the Madrague harbour. Take the stairs and follow the small passage on the right, between the houses. Descend to Plage de la Reinette and continue along the shore. After Plage de la Reinette, observe the petrifying spring with its travertine formation, a rare geological curiosity. Caution: slippery stretch along Plage de la Reinette. At the junction of the Pointe Grenier Heritage Trail and the Coastal Trail, a wooden sign informs you that you are beginning the Coastal Trail. Take the uphill walk to the left and follow the yellow markings. (This part is a challenging climb). After climbing all the steps, cross a tarmac road and take the 2nd staircase with wooden sleepers. This sporty section towards Pointe Fauconnière continues uphill, after a few bends, always following the yellow markings. Continue uphill on a steep, dirt path (Caution: can be slippery in wet weather). At the high point, enjoy a fine view of the surrounding hills, pine forests and the Sainte Baume massif in the background. Then a little further on. On the left, a panorama of vineyards and the Port d'Alon seafront (Pointe des Termes and Baie de la Moutte); on the right, a view of the village of Saint Cyr, the Madrague district and Baie des Lecques. Descend towards Pointe Fauconnière and the sea on a stony path. You'll enjoy a fine view of Cap Sicié and the Port d'Alon estate, and a fine view of Baie des Lecques, Bec de l'aigle and Pointe Grenier. Caution: do not follow the blue markers to the right! After an hour's walk, you've reached Pointe Fauconnière! A superb view of the Sainte Baume massif and Pointe Grenier awaits you. Below the viewpoint, carefully descend to the left after the pointe (keep following the yellow markings) and continue along the coastal path to the Calanque de Port d'Alon. Caution / Danger: Do not head for Pointe Grenier as the path is definitively closed due to rockfall and cliff instability. This steep, stony section of path offers a succession of beautiful views and enchanting landscapes. Pass the villas and private estate of Port d'Alon. Pass the esplanade and finally the calanque du Défens. This impressive stretch offers a magnificent opportunity to appreciate the shades of blue in the sea. After the second esplanade, a sign indicates the junction with the "sentier du Défens", which passes through the pine forest, set back from the coast. After a 10-minute walk, you'll come to the Jeoffrey cove - signpost N°15 to the Port d'Alon cove. At the calanque de Port d'Alon, with its majestic pine trees, enjoy a swim or a break in the shade before continuing on to Bandol. Water and toilets are available in season. Take the rocky path on the left of the Calanque de Port d'Alon. On the way, you'll see the Rocher de la Galère, also known as Le Sous-Marin (access to the cove is prohibited by decree N°2001-05-777). As far as Pointe des Engraviers, take advantage of the shady passages formed by the Mediterranean pine forests shaped by the wind, and the views over Ile Rousse and the Embiez archipelago. Continue to Plage des Engraviers, then cross the Athéna residence. Follow the signs to the Capélan peninsula. Follow the coastline, then take the road leading to Plage de Renecros in Bandol. Tip: If you do the whole trail, take the 880 bus from Bandol to Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer (Casino stop at the end of Bandol harbor). Please note that the nearest bus stop to La Madrague (where the trail starts in Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer) is the Le viguier stop on avenue de Tauroentum (about 2 km further on foot). The start of this short, discovery-filled hike is at the end of the Madrague harbor (see sign with trail description). Hiking itinerary available from the Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer Tourist Office. The Pointe Grenier Heritage Trail Duration 20 minutes Take the stairs and follow the small passage on the right, between the houses. Descend to Reinette beach and continue along the shore. After Reinette beach, observe the petrifying travertine spring, a rare geological curiosity. Follow the path, almost with your feet in the water, until you come across the remnants of Pointe Grenier's industrial past, including the three arches of the plaster kilns. Then reach the upper part of the point, home to the restored remains of a military battery: chapel, powder magazine, barracks and lookout tower. From the top, take time to admire the magnificent view over the Baie des Lecques and the Bec de l'Aigle. Return trip compulsory.

The coastal walk follows the different beaches of the city to appreciate the most beautiful bay in the world in 2019 in all its aspects. From the Tourist Office, walk along Boulevard Anatole France and then Boulevard Georges Clemenceau (the oldest cinema in the world still in operation, the Éden Théâtre, is on your left) before turning right onto Avenue du Président Wilson. On the left, go past the Eugène Mouton square which has been regularly used by petanque players since 1930. Then pass in front of the former Flots Bleus casino, now renovated as a gourmet market, then walk along the port and the Capucins beach. Go around the famous carousel and the sumptuous Villa des Tours to reach the Cyrnos beach followed by the Lumière beach. Cross the Henri Langlois esplanade and go to the Lumière monument, erected as a triumphal arch on the edge of the beach in memory of the inventors of cinema, Louis and Auguste Lumière. The coastal walk ends at the Grande Plage, where bars and restaurants follow one another in front of the Ile Verte and the Bec de l'Aigle, then by the port and the Saint-Jean beach. For the return journey, take the same route.

From the old port to the Bastide Marin, the soft path of La Ciotat is a safe route on foot, by scooter or by bike, vegetated, laid out on an old railway line, ideal for families with children. On the route of an old railway line, the VOIE DOUCE allows you to cross the city on a landscaped path. It is to discover the different districts of La Ciotat that you will leave, following the evolution of the urbanization around the railway line. It is a walk to stroll and discover as much the Mediterranean flora as the heritage such as the old station or the bastide marin. Benches allow the visitor to make stops to breathe in the scents of plants and trees. - Departure from the Tourist Office. Follow boulevard Anatole France then George Clémenceau. At the end of this avenue, leave Avenue du President Wilson on your right and take the next right: Avenue Frédéric Mistral. - The soft route is on your left at the start of Avenue Frédéric Mistral. Throughout the walk, you will discover Mediterranean vegetation that surrounds the route. - Passage over the Pont du Vallat de Roubaud. On the way, the old Batignolles stop - a small station dating from the time of the little Batignolles train which brought people from the station to the city. - Safe passage to cross the D559 - Continue on Avenue Guillaume Dulac for about 300m to arrive at Bastide Marin. - La Bastide Marin and its gardens extend over 15000m². Its illustrious owners were long-distance sailors. Knights of the Order of Malta, they traveled the Mediterranean, braving the storms, weaving commercial and friendly ties from the West to the East.

From the small oasis of Mugel, passing the balcony of the chapel of Notre Dame to the highest point of the highest maritime cliff in Europe (394m), this hike offers a palette of colors. From the deep blue of the sea to the azure blue of the sky of Provence, from the red ocher of this tormented relief, to the immaculate white of the limestone incursions, and the multitude of greens painted by the vegetation of the place. The particular heritage of this corner of Provence offers you surprising scenic beauty unveiled by captivating belvederes over the bay of Cassis and that of La Ciotat, many local stories of which have made the notoriety of these particularly endearing and picturesque towns. From the tourist office car park, walk along Quai Ganteuame and Quai F. Mitterrand to bypass the Old Port of La Ciotat. Head towards Avenue des Calanques, follow it to the Mugel site. Take the avenue du Mugel or let yourself be tempted by a visit to the Parc du Mugel. A path allows you to climb up to the viewpoint of the terrace. If you continue directly, follow the avenue du Mugel, follow the avenue Cardianl-Maurin to the right and then to the left the chemin de la Garde until the intersection of two roads. Another hook that is worth the detour, the promontory of the Chapelle Notre-Dame-la-Garde will leave you with a spectacular impression. Go up there, take the Traverse de la Garde and the landscaped path that leads to the chapel. Otherwise, continue straight on the Chemin du Semaphore which climbs gradually. Keep right when the road diverges to the left. Continue 100m. In front of a “private property” sign, take the balcony path on the left which runs along a low wall of the semaphore, ignoring the other paths. Pass in front of the semaphore, follow the path on the right which bypasses it to reach the Route des Crêtes. Follow it for 100m to the directional sign. Head right towards “La Ciotat by the Sainte-Croix chapel. Stay on the ridge. It is gradually moving towards the southeast. Walk along stone walls. After the ruins of the Sainte-Croix chapel, go down the Chemin de Sainte. Arriving in town, this path becomes tarred. Continue on this path, crossing avenue François Billoux and taking the stairs. Follow avenue de la Pétanque, then avenue Galliéni, place des Esquiros and rue Gueymard on the right to find the starting point: the Old Port of La Ciotat.

Les Lecques beach is a large family beach with fine sand. Walk along the landscaped promenade, known as the Pink Promenade, to discover its sublime 2 km stretch of sand and its postcard view. Along the promenade, you'll find restaurants and shops. The bathing establishments on Les Lecques beach are also open from April to October. Discover the multitude of water sports available in the bay: sailing, diving, sea kayaking, paddle, windsurfing, jet skiing. For your convenience, drinking water and toilets are available. You can park in the parking lots near the beach. In summer, a summer shuttle bus takes you to the beach from the town center. Disabled access (adapted toilets). Special wheelchairs for access to the water are available on request from the lifeguard station during opening times. At the level of the port of Saint-Jean and in the continuity of the Grande Plage is the Saint-Jean beach. Adjacent to the port of Saint-Jean, the Saint-Jean beach is a small sand and gravel beach, generally not very busy and with a very family atmosphere. During the season, kayaks can be rented, as well as deckchairs, mattresses and parasols. Several restaurants are located near the beach. There is a beautiful view of the Bec de l'Aigle and the Ile Verte. Parking is possible around the port of Saint-Jean. This is a non-smoking, non-supervised beach and dogs are not allowed on the beach.

The Lumière beach is located near the Henri Langlois esplanade and opposite the Allée Lumière. Lumière beach is one of the four large family beaches of La Ciotat. The Lumière beach is very popular with families with children as the low gradient makes it easy to swim. There are also activities for children on the esplanade. This sandy beach has a first aid post open during the summer. It has been awarded the Tourism & Handicap label for the four disabilities (mental, auditory, visual and motor), and benefits from a system designed for people with disabilities, including an access ramp for people with reduced mobility, the provision of specific swimming chairs and trained staff. This is a non-smoking beach and dogs are not allowed on the beach. Several hotels as well as many restaurants and cafes are located close to the beach. The nearest car park is at the port of Saint Jean. Parking is also available along the Boulevard Beaurivage and in the perpendicular avenues.

La Bastide Marin is a historic monument undergoing restoration. It is an interpretation centre for Mediterranean heritage. This concept symbolises the union between Mother Earth and the Mediterranean Sea, Mare Nostrum. Home to long-distance sailors, La Bastide Marin was at the heart of a large agricultural area where vineyards and olive groves provided significant harvests. Here you will discover architectural heritage dating back more than four centuries: a manor house and a farm. The natural setting, restored by members of the La Ciotat Il Était Une Fois association, is an eco-friendly site that houses an educational farm. It is also an LPO refuge consisting of several landscaped, secret and harmonious gardens. La Bastide Marin has been listed as a Historic Monument since 4 March 2013. Glorious long-distance sailors lived here for centuries. They braved storms, epidemics and pirates. Members of the Order of Malta, their bastide was hospitable. A summer resort, a place of care and refuge during maritime attacks, La Bastide Marin holds many secrets. A remarkable heritage site, it is the only remnant of the glorious days of maritime trade. The only surviving bastide in La Ciotat, Bastide Marin has a rich and fascinating history. Built around 1550, its owners were long-distance sailors and shipowners. Owned by the Marin family, bourgeoisie of the maritime city in the 17th century, the bastide would belong over the centuries to the Abeille, Portalis and Fabre families, before returning to the Marin family in the 19th century. Its owners lived off the riches of maritime trade and managed the city (several consuls over the centuries, coats of arms and a large heritage in La Ciotat and Marseille). Despite their desire to preserve the property, the heirs were forced to sell it to the municipality of La Ciotat on 9 July 1992 to settle inheritance costs. The Bastide and its lands then fell into disrepair, forgotten, squatted in and vandalised until 2004. Rescue of the Bastide Marin and restoration of the heritage Since 2004, the La Ciotat, Il Était Une Fois association has been working on a project to restore the Bastide Marin and its natural setting. With its 600 volunteers and extensive partnerships, its aim is to highlight periods of history by encouraging the active participation of all citizens. It contributes to the promotion and transmission of knowledge and skills by preserving and restoring natural and built heritage. A centre for interpreting Mediterranean matriarchal heritage. The concept of Mediterranean matriarchal heritage symbolises the union between Mother Earth and the Mediterranean Sea, Mare Nostrum. It also recalls the commitment of women throughout the centuries. Indeed, La Bastide Marin is a place where land and sea come together to form a single heritage. Home to long-distance sailors, it was also at the centre of a large agricultural area (10 hectares) where vineyards and olive trees provided significant harvests. Here and around the Mediterranean, the land and the sea are at the heart of ancestral traditions, knowledge and popular wisdom; they are matrimoine. This centre for interpreting Mediterranean matrimoine will aim to preserve and pass on ancient techniques and ancestral know-how to visitors and younger generations through spaces created and designed for educational purposes. Remarkable architecture Preserved by two hackberry trees, one of which is over three hundred years old, the façade of the residence is austere, faithful to the humility imposed by the hospitable order, but it has three rows of corbels, the first of which is inverted. Built with lime, a finely chiselled cobblestone pavement welcomes visitors. This presentation, which is by no means exhaustive, illustrates the rich architectural heritage of Bastide Marin. It holds many mysteries, and the association is still far from having uncovered all its secrets.

The visit will let you explore the daily life of the inhabitants of a villa maritima from the 1st century A.D. Suitable for all audiences. From the Tauroentum legend to the Villa Maritima Legend has it that the Greek city of Tauroentum, which disappeared "beneath the waves" in the 3rd century, was located on the Museum's present-day site. The site also bears witness to a major Roman settlement from the 1st century onwards, with some 2,000 people living in a huge villa maritima. Today, the Museum houses three rooms displaying a large collection of objects found in situ: amphorae, coins, glassware... and a remarkable collection of burials. Since 2022, the Tauroentum museum has been undergoing a major renovation, involving the fitting-out of the public reception building, the consolidation, protection and restoration of part of the remains, as well as the enhancement of the outdoor facilities, the pedestrian walkway and the open-air theater.
