Between scrubland, olive groves and views, a nice walk at the intersection of massifs surrounded by birdsongs! At the Gilouse fountain, cross the road and take the DFCI track that climbs opposite the fountain. Follow the red and white markings (GR®).  1 - At the junction, turn left onto the gravel path that descends below, then continue straight ahead at the next crossroads to stay on the GR®.  2 - At the crossroads of the DFCI AL 140 and AL 141 tracks, continue until you reach the departmental signpost. Follow the direction of “Lamanon par les crêtes du Défens.” 3 - At the intersection, follow the GR® to the left, pass the first trail on the right, then turn right at the next intersection and begin the strong ascent. 4 - Shortly after the first pylon, leave the track on the right, following the GR® trail, before rejoining it a little further on and continuing to the right. Near the next pylon, leave the track and take a trail that follows the crest line to the right. 5 - At the junction of tracks AL 142 and AL 143, turn right and follow the path “Eyguières par le chemin du Défends.” Leave the track for a small gravel path marked in yellow that leads off to the right and starts the descent. 6 - Once at the bottom, turn left, go through the barrier and turn right. Continue on this track overlooking the olive groves, ignoring the paths on the right and left. 7 - At the fork that divides the path in two, take the right fork and continue straight ahead until you reach a concrete track. Then turn right up the hill for a few meters before turning left onto the small yellow-marked path that leads into the vegetation. Continue to the D17 without entering private property. 8 - At the paved road, turn right onto the Chemin de la Fontaine Gilouse to return to the parking lot.

Admire the imposing Opies and cliffs of Mont Menu ! Back to the car park, climb to the right, between the Chabaud arena and the cemetery, the marked path of the Col of Melet tagged GR® and PR. Follow this marked path for 1 km, cross the channel of the valley of Baux and join an intersection where is implanted a panel of the Department. 1- fork right on the tarmac path marked PR, following the panel "Eyguières par le vallon des Glauges 7.8 km". Cross again the channel, then at the bend to the left take straight on the path of St-Pierre-de-Vence, marked blue and green. Follow it on 1.5 km. 2- At the end of the road, turn left on the paved road Glauges, marked PR. At the entrance to the domain vallon des Glauges, leave the paved road to climb the path on the right, marked PR, which passes through the vineyards. Join 500 m further an intersection with a DFCI barrier. 3- Pass the barrier to the right and follow this marked path PR. Leave a property on the right, pass a second DFCI barrier and cross the next junction. 300 m further, stay on the left and join a cross a few meters lower. 4- borrow the path to the left, signposted GR®. Continue straight for 1.2 km, leaving aside the different paths encountered, and join the D17 road. (Caution, traffic!) Turn left on this marked GR®, follow it for 300 m and turn left on a tarred road. Find 150 m further the intersection with the panel of the Department and the path of the Col de Melet. Resume this path and return to the starting point.

A little haven of peace, where nature lovers will be able to enjoy singing live birds in this preserved environment ! From the car park, take the path between two metal poles. After the grove of pines, continue straight through the crossroads of tracks. 1- Follow the path on the right and join the intersection between the D71 (Alleins road) and the Chemin des Marmets. Take a left on this paved road and continue for 1 km to the houses. 2- Take the path on the left that passes between different buildings.. Once in the massif, stay on this track, leaving on the side all alternative paths. To arrive at the water tower, with its point of view on the Opies and the lowland of Roquemartine. 3- Turn around. 300 m further, stay to the right, then just after follow the path on the left. Continue for 700 m then at the crossroads after the house turn right and join the departure car park.

Come crisscross Senas' little trails, at the mercy of the Provençal hedges and the cultures they hide ! From the Tourist Office, take the avenue Jean Jaurès on the left to the town hall. Turn right on Avenue Désiré Pey and then on the left the passage Massart. 1- (Caution) continue on the avenue Louis Pascal. At the roundabout head straight under the motorway bridge, then turn immediately left on the path of Perrier Redon. Continue for 500 m. 2- Turn left on the path of the cabaret des Boeufs, direction la Peyronnette. Cross the stop and continue until the level crossing. 3- Take the Patis path on the right and immediately on your left the path of the Bressières Est area. Go up to the highway and turn right just after. 4- Go right at the next crossing. Continue on the path of Durancette and Dumaine. Take a right at the next intersection. 5- Turn left at the intersection and then right on the Bonfillons Sud road. Continue 200 m, before turning left onto the dirt road of the Crillons channel. 6- Turn left at the bridle with a house in the center and continue for 600m. After a large isolated pine tree, take the path on your left and continue to the road. 7- Take a right on the road to Mallemort, continue for 1 km. Turn right on chemin de l'Etang then continue on Chemin des Ribes and Brayettes. At the STOP turn left and return to the starting point.

An easy walking path around the Opies during which you will easily see all the rare or typical species of the Alpilles. Arriving at the cemetery, cross the gate to take the GR6 marked trail leading away from the village and follow it. Continue straight ahead, leaving the various small paths aside at multiple intersections Stay on this trail that continues to the foothills of the mountain on the left. Arriving to the sheep pen, go straight for 500 m. 1 – Pass the gate which cuts the road and at the crossroads, follow the second marked trail PR (yellow marking) which starts on the left. 400 metres further, turn on the right to go remain on the marked trail going up the hill. 2 – Reaching to the gate, turn to the right, leaving the private property and turn left, to go down the path leading to the domaine du vallon des Glauges. 3 – Reaching to the domaine, continue straight on the road the tour of the wine estate. 4 – At the intersection, turn right and continue for 1.5 km on the gravel path between the vineyards, visible on the right side of the cliff overlooking on the left. 5 – Arriving back on the road, turn right and return to the domaine. (Traffic!) 3 – Turn left at the intersection represented by the reference point number 3 to start the route back.

Climb the foothills of the Alpilles, to admire Aureille and admire landscapes extending as far as the eye can see! From the parking, return on the D25a. Take it on the right towards Eygalières and turn left on the Estandedou road. At the crow's feet, stay on the right, Chemin Saint-Jean, and continue for 400 m. 1- Go right up the path of the water tower. Exceed the tank and continue to a tank. Then take the path on the right for 900 m2- Facing a fork, climb the left path. At the next intersection, take the right one. Continue on this road for 2 km, leaving on your right the lookout tower.3- At the intersection with the GR®6, turn left, then 30 m further, turn to the right. Follow this road for 500 m, then fork on the trail to the left. 4- For the next two intersections, take the trail on the left. Carry on on this trail for 2 km. At the end of the path, facing a field of olive trees, take the path on the left.5- At the junction, follow the path on the left, guided by the sign "Aureille 1,5 km". Continue on the same path up to the village and the starting point of the hike.

Take a step back on the emblematic reliefs of the Alpilles thanks to this walk accessible to all and full of sensations! From the parking, return on the D25a. Take it on the right towards Eygalières and turn left on the Estandedou road. At the intersection stay on the right, Saint-Jean path, until the end of the houses 1- Follow the GR® on the right. Take the path on the left at the junction and continue for 4 km until the D24 road, leaving on the sides the paths encountered. 2- Cross the D24 and take a path that goes right up to a collar Go past a wide path that goes to the left and take a path down and parallel to the road. 3- Go up on the D24, pass the small stone bridge and in the bend take the path on the right. At the next crossroads, stay to the left. Just after, climb left and pass a barrier. 4- Continue on this path to another barrier. There, turn left to join the D25a. Get off on the road until after the rocky bars and take the first path on the left. 5- Walk along the fence and the olive trees to a stool. Continue, then at the next junction, turn right twice. Pass an oratory, take the D25a on the left and join Aureille and the starting point.

Discover the scrubland by browsing the towns of Saint-Martin-de-Crau and Mouriès, with a magnificent view of the Alpilles. From the parking, pass the barrier and take the right path bordered scrubland (yellow PR marking). Continue for 600 m. 1- Make a left turn then another right. Enter an area where vegetation is less dense. Continue to follow the main path (yellow PR signage) going north on 400 m. 2- Make a left turn while continuing on the main path (yellow PR marking). After 400 m, go down through the olive trees to join the Draille de l'Anellier. 3- Take this draille on the right. Continue straight for 1.5 km until you reach the intersection with the D5. Switch to the right on the latter (stay on the yellow shoulders provided to this effect). Continue 300 m and join the departure car park.

On the heights of Eygalières, go through the GR®6 between the Calans and admire breathtaking views of the Alpilles. From the parking, follow the D24b towards the city center. 1- At the crossroads, turn right. Follow the red and white markings until the end of the hike. Then leave the town hall on the left. 50 m further, leave the Monument to the dead on the left and continue along the road. 2- Turn left on the path Ludovic Souvestre, and take the first right. Cross the locality of the 4 vents and continue on the path. 3- At the Badon Arboretum (possibility to climb to the point of view), go around it and follow the path. 200 m after the barrier, take the little rocky path. 4- At the end of the track, turn right, leaving the Gros Calan behind. Continue on the forest path to the cistern. 5- At the height of the tank, turn right on the slope which goes down gently. After the bend, continue on the left path at the next junction. Follow this path along the Petit Calan then continue in the forest. 6- Cross the barrier and take the small path on the right that runs along the road for about 700 m. 7- Turn right at the crossroads, and continue on the path. Go past the well and continue on the main road to the D24b. Cross the departmental road and continue on Mario Prassinos road. Go behind the cemetery and enter Eygalières. 8- At the top of the small hill, turn right. Possibility to fork then directly to the parking lot or to walk in the village.

Then leave the town hall on the left. 50 m further, leave the Monument to the dead on the left and continue along the road.1- Turn left on the path Ludovic Souvestre, and take the first right. Leave the road after the turn to take the wide path that goes on the right. Continue for 200 meters until you reach a fork, then go right up the path that continues towards the hill. Follow this zig-zag path for 1.5 km. 5- Engage in the small path that sinks to the right of the path. The latter leads to a new trail. Leave the different paths that leave from both sides to join the D25. Cross it again. Then climb the main path after crossing the barrier. 6- At the height of the tank, continue straight on the track which descends gently. After the bend, take the left path at the next junction. Follow this path along the Petit Calan then continue in the forest. 7- Cross the barrier and take the small path on the right that runs along the road for about 700 m. Turn right at the crossroads, and continue on the path. Go past the well and continue on the main road to the D24b. 8- Cross the departmental road and continue on Mario Prassinos road. Go behind the cemetery and enter Eygalières. At the top of the small hill, turn right. Possibility to fork then directly to the parking lot or to walk in the village.

Water has always been a major concern in the Provence region. With the construction of the Craponne Canal at the end of the 16th century, the silty waters of the Durance River disrupted these arid landscapes. Throughout the 19th century, canals underwent considerable development, and in 1914, the Vallée des Baux Canal enabled the irrigation of land south of the Alpilles. It irrigates around 2,800 hectares of agricultural land: olive groves, vineyards, orchards, cereals, and vegetables

The recognizable silhouette of Mont Ventoux, the “giant of Provence,” marks the horizon. Crowned with white limestone fragments that give it a snowy appearance, it’s the highest point in the Vaucluse Mountains at an altitude of 1,911 m. To its left, in the foreground, the cliffs that close off the Roquemartine plain mark the eastern limit of the Alpilles mountain range. The Luberon mountain range faces them, separated from the Alpilles by the bed of the Durance river.,For centuries, crossing the Durance was made difficult by the river's frequent and formidable floods. One of the only safe passages for people, goods, and livestock to reach Cavaillon, Apt, and beyond to the Alps was a ferry established in the vicinity of Orgon.

Under the Old Regime, a “défends” was an estate reserved for the exclusive use of a lord. All activities (hunting, harvesting, gathering dead wood, or pastures) were prohibited to the population. Numerous lawsuits pitted communities against their lords over the rights to use these lands. In Eyguières, the Count of Sade (a distant relative of the Divine Marquis) had placed the entire mountain range under défends. Until the Revolution, grazing livestock there was therefore prohibited.

At the junction between the Crau plain ant the lower Durance valley, the village of Eyguières occupies a small valley sheltered by the hills of Mont Menu, Défends and Roquemartine. Since the 11th century, the village has taken advantage of this unique site and its abundance of springs, which were quickly channeled and exploited, to establish itself. Theses resurgences gave the town its name and coat of arms: Eyguières, formerly spelled “Aiguières” come from the Provencal “Eiguiero” and refers to a vessel for holding water. The groundwater of the Defends massif supplies water to all three of the village natural springs: the Gilouse fountain, the Bormes fountain, and the Font Vieille. In the distance, you can perceive Les Opies, the highest point in the Alpilles Mountains, rising to 498m.

The Chabaud arenas are located on the site of an old mill built in 1787. The main building of this mill still exists inside the bullring. The aqueduct, which is distinguished outside the arena, was intended to supply the mill with water. Around 1898, no longer reporting sufficient income to the town, the mill is sold to an individual. Auguste Chabaud, last owner of the mill, transforms the infrastructures into arenas, inaugurated on August 8th, 1926.

The Gilouse fountain is a spring supplied by a natural resurgence of groundwater stemming from the Défends massif. This fountain was established in 1774. It provides water to a small open-air wash house dating from 1664, which can still be seen today.

Queen Jeanne’s castle and chapel, built between the 11th and the 13th centuries, have had a tumultuous history. This strategic position allowed military and economic control of the Eyguières valley as well as the communication routes to the south and east of the Alpilles, guaranteeing its owner considerable income. The major crossroads have for a long time helped the transhumant herds of the Crau to take the routo des alpages (alpine pasture roads).

This canal, measuring 53 km long, has been the subject of a long process of reflection and design. Started in 1792, the canal will be put in water a century later, in 1914. To develop human presence and economic activity in the Alpilles, it was important that a hydraulic network irrigate the territory and allow agriculture to develop. This canal alone feeds the southern part of the massif.

The coussoul is a steppic pastoral lawn. Its rough vegetation grows on a very fine soil, which covers the pebbles coming from the old bed of the Durance. At less than one meter deep, there is a layer of pebbles cemented by a crust of mineral salts. Called "poudingue", it directly impacts the growth of trees. In Eyguières, there is little coussoul because the lawn has been replaced by crops, but we observe very well pebbles conducive to its development.

This relief is characterized by a set of ridges where is the highest point of the territory of the Park: the Opies, at 498 m altitude. From the tower that symbolizes the summit, it is possible to see up to the alpine massifs. This tower was a watchtower, built at the dawn of the twentieth century, to prevent the fire in the massif. It is now used to house the Mistral adventurers who have reached the summit.
