How to get there ? • From the Arles Tourist Office located Boulevard des Lices, take the bicycle lane that passes in front of the bandstand, walk along Bd Clémenceau, cross the Sixte Quenin car park (P3), cross the Arles canal bridge at Bouc and walk along the canal (which must always stay on your left), always taking the bike path up to the Van Gogh bridge. • From the Youth Hostel: free parking along Avenue du Maréchal Foch on the edge of the Fournier stadium. Practically opposite the Youth Hostel, on the edge of rue Germaine Richier, the old SNCF track has been converted into a bicycle path. A sign indicates the direction of the Van Gogh Bridge. Just after the old SNCF bridge, turn left onto the cycle path that runs along the Arles à Bouc canal to the Van Gogh bridge.

Travel by VTC the last stretch of the ViaRhôna, along the Rhone River between Arles and the Mediterranean Sea. From the Van Gogh Bridge, head towards the bike lane towards Port-Saint-Louis Mas-Thibert. Go along the canal from Arles to Bouc This route is an old railway line rehabilitated. 1 - In Mas-Thibert, continue straight, follow the sign ViaRhôna. VARIANT : At Mas-Thibert, turn left, cross the bridge and then turn right towards the Vigueirat marsh. Continue on the bike path. In the Vigueirat Marshes, return to the village of Mas-Thibert. Retreat the bridge and head to the left. Follow the ViaRhôna. 2 - At the wind turbines, continue to the right and continue until the D35. 3 - At the intersection with the D35, turn left and turn right towards Salin-de-Giraud. 4 - At the Barcarin ferry boat, take the foot of the dike on the left. Follow this path for 4 km along the Bois François area. 5 - On arrival at Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône, pass the barrier then take the path on the right. Follow the indications "parcours santé" Bois François along the banks of the Rhone. Follow the main path. 6 - At the intersection, take the path that goes to the right. 7 - Arrived on the Abri du Rhône port, along the banks of the Rhône (picnic areas) to the Tour Saint-Louis (which houses the Tourist Office). 8 - Take the path on the right after the Tourist Office. Cross the small blue bridge and go to the first street on the right towards Napoléon beach. Continue along the Anatole France Avenue along the Rhone and continue straight on Napoleon Road for 6.5 km to the beach.

A loop around the Craponne Canal, between Crau and Camargue, between town and countryside! Back to the Hortus garden, facing the river, head towards the Rhone banks. 1 - Under the bridge of the 2x2 lanes and at the outlet, go to the right then take the bike path to reach the city center. Continue for more than 1 km, pass the Tourist Office. 2 - At the crossroads, follow the direction of the Alyscamps on the right. 3 - Then turn left towards the Alyscamps, cross the old railway and then take a left. Continue and go under the bridge of the railway track. 4 - At the traffic light, turn right and continue until the Pont-de-Crau roundabout. 5 - At the roundabout, take the first exit and follow the bike path on the left towards Pont-de-Crau. Walk along the aqueduct then at the end of the bike path, continue on the path of the tops that climbs slightly to the right. Turn left, Chemin du Trabac then continue for 1 km. 6 - At the stop, turn left and continue for 500 m. At the second stop, head to the left. Cross the bridge over the canal. At the roundabout, take the first exit towards Moulès. Continue for 600 m then turn right, Route de Servannes. Continue on this road that becomes a path for more than 4 km. 7 - Turn right, Villarde Communal Road and continue for more than 1 km.8 - Turn left, Route le Crau then turn right towards Mas-Thibert. Go over the motorway and continue towards Mas-Thibert for about 3 km. 9 - Turn right, Chemin des Canons. At the end of the Chanoines path, turn right towards Arles and after the bridge over the Vigueirat canal, turn to the right to take the ViaRhôna to Arles. 10 - At the Van Gogh bridge, continue Jean Charcot street then at the end of this street, turn left, Pont de Langlois street. At the roundabout, follow the direction of the Ancient Arles Museum. Return to the starting point.

On the path of the pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela, go in search of the many testimonies of agricultural life... From the Tourist Office, turn left on Boulevard des Lices then turn right on Gambetta street towards Trinquetaille. Cross the Rhône and continue towards Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. 1- At the roundabout, take the C108 direction Gimeaux. 2- Turn left after the arena and follow the C113 "Palunlongue path". 3- At the crossroads of the D37, turn right for 500 m then turn right on the C118 road to the Saliers hamlet. 4- At the junction of the D572, turn right towards Arles for 500 m. Take on the left the road from Cazeneuve to Rigaudon. 5- At the old railway line, take the road opposite. 6- At the junction, cross the railway and take the VC105 "Chemin des Prêcheurs" on the right. At the stop turn right. 7- At the stop, turn left on the old road to Saint-Gilles, direction Trinquetaille.

A walk through market gardens and rice fields to soak up the unique atmosphere of the Camargue! Back to the Arles Tourist Office, turn left on boulevard des Lices then turn right on Gambetta street towards Trinquetaille. Cross the Rhone via the Pont de Trinquetaille and continue towards Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer by the streets of the Camargue and the Verrerie. Continue for 1.5 km on the Avenue de la Camargue. At the roundabout, take the C108 direction Gimeaux. Continue on the road to Gimeaux for 3 km. 1- Turn left towards the arenas. Turn left on the C112 after passing the arenas. 2 - Take a right onto the D570 and continue for 250 m. Head to the left on the Dougue road (C125). Continue straight for 1.5 km. 3 - Turn right on the C154, then at the junction, continue on the small path of Sainte-Cécile. Continue towards the Vaccarès pond 4 - Take a right on the intersection with the D37. Continue for 250 m to the observation point of the Mas Neuf Vaccarès set up by the Camargue Regional Natural Park. Go back to step 4. Stay on the D37 towards Arles, for more than 6 km. In Villeneuve, continue straight. 5 - Turn left in the bend, 500 m after the restaurant "Chez Bob", on the road to Romieu (C132). 6 - Continue on the left at the intersection with the Azegat road (C133) for 2 km. Then turn left towards Gageron. At Gageron, continue on the C130, for 8 km 7 - At the junction with the path (C131) of Sainte-Cécile, keep right on Route de Bouchaud and continue straight for 3 km to point 3. Join Arles by the D570 then by Gimeaux on the same route as the outbound.

The ViaRhôna / Eurovelo 17, is a greenway cycle route of 815km, under construction, linking Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean beaches. Along the Rhone River, the route leads to the Alpine mountains, the Camargue beaches, crossing through the iconic landscapes of Provence. The bike path of the Van Gogh Bridge in Mas Thibert is one of the sections of the ViaRhôna which goes along the Rhone Valley. A section between Mas-Thibert and Port St. Louis will be developed to reach the mouth of the Rhone at the Napoleon beach.

Named after the employee responsible for guarding and handling it, the "Langlois Bridge" gained worldwide fame thanks to representations made by Van Gogh at the end of the 19th century. The Van Gogh Bridge today The bridge that can be seen a few kilometers south of the city center, over the Arles-to-Bouc canal, is not, however, the one painted by the artist. It is also not in its original location. Technological progress, changes in town planning and the vagaries of war have meant that today we only see an identical example, once installed in Fos. However, the desire to evoke the painter, as well as to restore an old technique, made it possible to replace the work in its functional integrity, and in a landscaped setting similar to that seen by Van Gogh.

The canal was built between 1642 and 1647 to clean up the "Vigueirie" (agricultural plain between the Montagnette and the Alpilles) flowing the waste water to the sea. The Canal du Vigueirat, which begins in the town of Tarascon, extends over 46km and is partly classified as a National Nature Reserve of the Marais du Vigueirat. Its outlet is located in the Canal of Arles in Bouc. It is automated since 1996 and managed by the Great seaport of Marseille, also known as Marseille-Fos Port.

In the heart of the rice fields and near Arles, close to the Vaccarès pond, the farmhouse of Sainte-Cécile is one of the oldest farmhouses in the Camargue. Dating from the 15th century, the farmhouse has the buildings necessary for the proper functioning of the agricultural domain : the main dwelling, the workers’accommodation, a dovecote, a henhouse, a sheepfold, a shed, cellars and a chapel. This chapel was built in the 11th century. and would be the starting point for the construction of the farmhouse of Sainte-Cécile.

Formed over 5,000 years ago, the Rhône has continued to transform over time and the heavy floods in 1711 created its present riverbed. With a flow at the mouth of 1,700 m3/s, it is the most powerful flow in France. It borders Camargue with both of its streams: the Great Rhône which is almost in a straight line, separates from the Little Rhône up north of the city of Arles. This iconic river and its banks keep an important ecological role as a habitat for many animal species including the European pond turtle, beavers and otters.

The water of the Craponne canal arrives from Crau lowland thanks to the Roman aqueduct which crosses the roundabout of Pont de Crau and continues towards the Alyscamps. The canal then circulates in Arles to reach the Rhône. This aqueduct, built between 1585 and 1587 and classified as a historic monument, allowed to cross the swamp area present at the entrance to Arles. Part of this aqueduct was demolished during the construction of the road, so the canal goes underground at this level.

In 1554, Adam Craponne is at the origin of the design of the Canal de Craponne which connects the Durance to the Rhône via Salon-de-Provence then Saint-Martin-de-Crau and Arles. Water irrigates the meadows and Crau’s crops. Since its water intake in Lamanon, north of Salon-de-Provence, the flow of the canal is strong then it decreases and is very discreet on arrival in Arles where it is sometimes underground. A few centuries ago, this canal fed the wheat mills on the side of the Alyscamps.

812 km long, the Rhône has its source in the Rhône glacier at over 2,400 m altitude, in Switzerland. It crosses Lake Geneva then Geneva and then arrive in France. It is in the Camargue delta that the river ends its course. In Arles, the Rhône is divided into two arms: the Grand Rhône to the east and the Petit-Rhône to the west and flows into the Mediterranean Sea at Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône and Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. River navigation on the Rhône is possible thanks to locks.

On the edge of the Vaccarès pond nature reserve, the Domaine de Méjanes offers a privileged approach to the Camargue and its traditions, while respecting the environment. The domain of Méjanes is an old fortified residence of the Templars of the 13th century, part of the buildings of which date from the 11th century. Acquired by Paul Ricard in 1939, the Domaine is now an agricultural and tourist property which allows you to discover all the riches of the Camargue natural environment, on foot, on horseback, by mountain bike or with the little train. If the village only had its church and a few houses in the 19th century, it is at the center of a territory that includes the most beautiful farmhouses in the Camargue: the painted farmhouse, the Cazeau tower farmhouse. This sector specializes in the breeding of herds of bulls and the cultivation of rice, including organic rice. There is also an important private research center on the flora and fauna of the marshes, the biological station of the Tour du Valat.

From the ruins of the buildings of this former royal saltworks, easily accessible, but with authorization, you can access magnificent discovery trails on 4.5 kilometers of hiking trails. The small unguarded hut you will see is called "Bastidon Pradon". Open to hikers or passing riders, it is freely available. Inside, no mattresses or blankets but enough dishes to eat and warm up. Perfect for a break or a step, the days of big mistral!
