This walk will help you discover the hidden treasures of the traditional architecture of the Châtaigneraie, from the 16th century church to the beautiful farms with closed courtyards and entrance porches. The chestnut is celebrated every year in October during the famous Chestnut Fair which attracts thousands of visitors. You can also visit the Maison de la Châtaigne, a museum dedicated to the fruit of the “breadfruit” tree. About 30 species of wild orchids are present on these few hectares which gather a quarter of the French flora and more than half of the Auvergne flora in orchids. The climate of the limestone mounds (former lake basin) located between Saint-Santin-de-Maurs and Montmurat is one of the mildest and driest in Cantal. These conditions give the landscapes, agriculture and natural environments a pronounced southern character. Free access on foot from the village of Saint-Santin-de-Maurs. The animal and plant species living on this Natura 2000 site are protected, so be careful.

As in many Châtaigneraie villages, Le Trioulou has a pretty church and a picturesque castle with turrets. But there's something, or rather someone, you won't find anywhere else: Mélia the bee!

The scenographic space of the Lot Valley will take you into the life of the men of the valley at the beginning of the last century, through dynamic and interactive staging! Saint-Constant and Fournoulès have been a single commune since 2016. Yet two very different atmospheres prevail: Saint-Constant looks a little like Aveyron, while Fournoulès has a more mountainous atmosphere.

In a protected environment, this charming and characterful place, classified as a sensitive natural area, lends itself to relaxation. The Moulin du Fau estate consists of approximately 7 hectares of land located on the banks of the Rance, about 1 km from the centre of Maurs. This site includes an old grain mill and a barn, a complex network of feeder and diversion canals, a fish pond and meadows. It's very easy to walk around the pond (about 1 km).

Maurs is the southern version of Auvergne. It has a lilting accent and the town's appearance is more akin to its neighbours in Lot or Aveyron than to the other Cantal towns. It's not called the Little Nice of Cantal for nothing... The town is squeezed around the Abbey of St. Caesarius, a 14th century gothic vessel, and has retained the almost perfect circular shape of its ramparts. The abbey church contains the reliquary bust of Caesarius, a masterpiece of 12th century goldsmith's art, as well as a collection of beautiful wooden statues and sculpted stalls, unique in Auvergne. Wednesday visits in French at 10:30 am in July and August.

The heart of the Châtaigneraie beats to the rhythm of the River Rance. It serves as a backdrop for the many cyclists who take the cycle route between Maurs and Marcolès, which is part of the Grande Traversée du Volcan à Vélo (“Crossing the Volcano”) or GT2V. This route follows the winding course of the river and offers plenty of coolness in summer. Its history has been shaped by mills, railways and hydroelectricity.

L'Auberge de Mourjou, with its restaurant and guest rooms, has been open since 18 March 2024. Daily menu (€19,90) from Monday 12pm to Friday 2pm. Chef Kara Asatryan's menu (€39) is available for lunch and dinner on Saturdays and lunch on Sundays. Booking recommended. The chef's menu consists of a choice of two starters, a choice of two main courses and a choice of two desserts. The menu changes every 2 weeks according to the season and her inspiration.
