A very pleasant circuit on the shores of Lake Geneva that combines an enjoyable stroll with a chance to discover more about the area’s culture. This trip is done through thematic of 11 stops distributed along the route. You can extend your strolls through some visits to cultural sites This walk starts on the shores of Lake Geneva, a crescent-shaped glacial lake that is fed by the River Dranse and the River Rhone, which flows through the lake from east to west. Covering an area of 582 km2 and descending to a maximum depth of 310 metres, Lake Geneva has the particularity of being divided in two by the Franco-Swiss border. The two largest cities on the lakeshore, Geneva and Lausanne, together with the towns of Vevey and Montreux, are on the Swiss side of the lake, whereas the spa resorts of Thonon-les-Bains and Évian-les-Bains attract large numbers of tourists to the French side.The path along the banks of the River Foron is lined by signs on which a Mediaeval miller tells the tale of the Moulin de la Serpe. Along the path, you will come across some of the places described in the legend, such as the Château de Coudrée and the Moulin de la Serpe. This sixth stage of the GRP Littoral du Léman will take you from Sciez to Yvoire. In a first part, you will reach Excenevex and its exceptional fine sand beach, before reaching Yvoire, a magnificent medieval village. From the marina of Sciez-sur-Léman, you will walk along the Coudrée domain to reach the fine sand beach of Excenevex. This beach is the only natural beach of fine sand on Lake Geneva. Developed in the 1930's, this Natura 2000 site has a remarkable geology due to its lake dunes which are unique in Europe with those of the Hungarian lake of Balaton. The village of Yvoire will also delight your curiosity. Classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France and rich in 700 years of history, a magnificent castle stands on the edge of the lake. Built from 1306 by the Count of Savoy Amédée V, the castle of Yvoire had for function to supervise the navigation and to control the maritime road which connected Geneva to the high valley of the Rhone and to Italy.

A lovely walk to discover Sciez and its natural and historical sites: the Guidou estate, Coudrée and its castle, the boxwood, the mill ruins... Keep your eyes peeled for signs of wild boar and beavers. Beware of passages with steps not suitable for baby carriages. In wet weather, the path may be slippery in places. Following in the footsteps of the Légende du moulin de la Serpe, discover the nature, people and history of Sciez. And, like the grain of wheat under the millstone, the metamorphoses of this route will find you changed on your return. Interpretation stations along the way will give you a better understanding of this unique heritage. Each of the eleven stops corresponds to a page in the booklet, available free of charge from the Sciez Tourist Office. Enjoy your walk through the Sciez hinterland!

Accessible to all, you'll first make your way through the narrow streets of the village, before reaching the agricultural areas inland. You'll then reach the Ecenevex beach to finish your stroll on the shores of Lake Geneva. The beach at Ecenevex is the only sandy beach on Lake Geneva. Developed in the 1930s, this Natura 2000 site boasts a remarkable geology, with lake dunes unique in Europe alongside those of Hungary's Lake Balaton. Take the time to walk to the end of the landing stage to admire the view before returning to the church.
