The sizeable valley in which the hamlet of Flandres stands is known as La Flandonenque and offers lush vegetation, hamlets steeped in history, and the Gardon de St-Germain-de-Calberte with its waterfalls and gours (natural basins). Start by following the dirt track (and stay on this main track). Then leave the track by heading right on L'Escaillou, a skidding track that goes uphill into the woods. At the second road, turn right to reach the hamlet of Flandres. As you leave Flandres, a path goes downhill on the right towards a mill, then joins up with the main track again, which takes you to Nozières. As you leave Nozières, go right at the last house and head for La Fare. The footpath becomes narrower for about 1.5 km. In a sharp bend, it meets a larger track. Turn left and enter La Fare by following the path between the houses. As you leave the hamlet, turn right. Follow the lane for about 100 m and turn left. In another small valley, the path curves to reach Le Vernet on the opposite slope. At Le Vernet, walk below the first house on the right, fork left and go through a barrier and then downhill through the meadow to a sheepfold. The path then joins a trincat (channel for diverting water) to reach a bridge. From the bridge, go up the slope in front of you to return to the starting-point.

An interpretive trail completes the visit with a presentation of some of the tree species native to the Cévennes. This little bathing spot is ideal for relaxing on the rocks and enjoying the natural pools formed by the river. A place for young and old alike! Please note that swimming is not supervised!   In this valley, goats are the predominant livestock. Their milk is sold to the cooperative dairy in Moissac Vallée Française, or turned into Pélardon cheese on the farm. Pélardon was awarded the AOC (controlled designation of origin) in 2000 and the AOP (protected designation of origin) in 2001. This small round cheese made from unpasteurised whole goat's milk is an emblem of the Cévennes. Since goats offer a better financial return, herds of goats are smaller than flocks of sheep. They maintain smaller grazing surfaces, but need richer fodder to supply milk. (P. Grime)  

Marker 18The hamlet of La Roquette consists of several groups of buildings, which are, from bottom to top: La Moulinarié, Mas Chaptal, Lous Paillous, Mazdal. They were all built from schist and on the mountainside with the best sun exposure. The formerly cultivated land and fields that surround them are immediately hemmed by holm oak, chestnut trees and rocky ridges. The architectural fabric is reinforced by the presence of terraces, which truly anchor the humanised landscape in the natural landscape. On the left, a cross overlooks the valley, bearing witness to the striking events of the Camisard War. At that time, the neighbourhood of La Devèze, to which La Roquette belonged, was a bastion of Catholic resistance in Protestant lands.

Marker 17The rural exodus (from the second half of the 19th century onwards), diseases, and a lack of maintenance mean that most chestnut orchards look abandoned. When the trees die, clearings open up and rapidly give way to more dynamic species, such as holm oak, broom, heather, ferns, etc. Wild boar, stags and deer today use the undergrowth, where they feed on fruits and bulbs. Trunks and foliage are much appreciated by nuthatches, mistle thrush, woodpeckers, treecreepers, European pied flycatcher, tawny owl, etc., not forgetting foxes, badgers, genets, and beech martens, which also frequent these environments.

Bivouac nature is a camp of eco-lodges tents to spend a pleasant stay in the heart of nature. It is also possible to rent a Bivouac pitch to pitch your own tent without electricity. Ecological and resolutely turned towards a committed and green tourism, the site of Bivouac Nature is without wifi nor car to take advantage fully and serenely of the place in family. Some tents are fully equipped (bathroom, solar panel lighting) and all our models have bedrooms with real beds and a kitchenette (fridge, 2 burner stove, dishes and utensils). For 4 generations now, this family campsite welcomes you in the heart of the Cevennes between Anduze and Saint Jean du Gard, in the Mialet valley. It is located along the river and has its own private beach. The establishment located at the edge of the Cevennes National Park offers a wide range of activities for the whole family. It has a direct access to the river with a private beach, an aquatic complex of more than 600m² with a swimming pool of 250 m², a heated swimming pool with 4 slides including a kamikaze, an aqualudic space of 250 m² for the youngest with many water games and a new slide with sensation, the Tobbo-jump of 11m high. As for other activities, you will find a multi-sports field, an 18-hole mini golf course, a fitness area, a bowling alley with 12 courts, a games library and a children's playground accessible from the opening of the campsite. Activities for children from 3 to 5 years old and 6 to 10 years old, for teenagers from 11 to 14 years old and 15 to 18 years old as well as sports and leisure activities and big family games are organized in July and August, 6 days a week in our air-conditioned yurt.
