A 40km loop to discover the Xaintrie, an unspoilt plateau with typical architecture and three flowing rivers. Everywhere, stone, granite and lauze roofs illuminated by "fenestroux" give the little houses as well as the beautiful residences a noble and harmonious face. Along the way, you'll have a rendezvous with history, in the time of the knights. Since the 11th century, the Carbonnières towers have stood on a rocky spur, silhouetted against the surrounding wild greenery and forest. Nearby are the Towers of Merle, a 12th-century citadel overlooking the Maronne River. This jewel of medieval Limousin invites you to discover its fortress in a 10-hectare park. In the heart of the Xaintrie Blanche, this long circuit, which can be reduced by half, alternates small roads and easy paths, very easy to ride on a mountain bike. The remains of a feudal fortress (11th and 14th centuries), the Carbonnières site comprises two square towers (the south tower for defensive purposes and the north tower for residential purposes) and a village abandoned in 1951. It's easy to let your imagination run away with you and discover the secret of the beautiful Catarina... The visit is free and self-guided, thanks to a 4-minute walk (3.5km) marked out on site. It's accessible for the whole family, but with a slight difference in altitude.

Just 500m from the Tours de Merle historic and tourist site, on the D13 linking the communes of St-Geniez-ô-Merle and St-Bonnet-les-Tours, look out over Europe's 2nd largest timber-framed bridge, the only one of its kind to have replaced the single-span suspension bridge built at the end of the 19th century. The bridge's features include a 30 m high crossing over the Maronne river (a tributary of the Dordogne), 250 tons of Douglas fir timber, a 56 m span, 6 25 m high crutches in the form of a St-André cross, and a 10 m wide carriageway. The Merle bridge has been open to traffic since 1999, and is a prime example of Corrèze's timber industry.

In the old village of ST Geniez ô Merle are the ruins of the 14th and 15th century church, listed as a Monument Historique since 1969. Situated on the side of a promontory, it was preceded on the west by a multi-bay bell tower, and ended on the east by a straight wall bearing the Merle coat of arms. The patron saint was St Geniez, the comedian honored on August 25. Its destruction was triggered by a lightning storm that destroyed the roof. Ruin quickly followed, aided by stone robbers. Before 1897, it was the church of the former parish of Saint Geniez ô Merle. The present-day church of St Geniez ô Merle was built in 1899, replacing that of the present-day "Vieux Bourg", whose hamlet is now a protected site.
