Tortueuse et paisible, la Semoy se dévoile au gré de la voie verte. This 3 meter-large greenway was partly set up on an ancient railroad and is currently being improved. Many sections will be tarred.

The start of this walk is on the Bohan road in Hérisson. It is possible to park your car at the start. This is a short but difficult walk. After a gentle start on a wide forest road, the path descends towards the Semois. A short rest is necessary before the steep climb that awaits you. The narrow path climbs steeply next to the Sautou, a stream with beautiful rock formations along the water. The walk then returns via a path on the crest of the hill. Sturdy shoes are recommended

ELFE stands for ‘Espace de Loisirs Forestiers Européens’, a network of footpaths covering over 80 kilometres, running between France and Belgium. These hiking trails reveal the loveliest paths in the Croix Scaille forest and the nearby land of France. One of them offers a superb walk from the Millennium Tower to the village of Hargnies.

The walk crosses the Croix Scaille plateau on wide forest roads. At the lowest point of the trail you pass the chapel of St Jean before slowly climbing back up to the starting point of the walk. At the Millenium Tower (at the start of the hike) there are several picnic tables and in the season there is the possibility to have a drink.

Get some height with this short and very sportive walk on sometimes very uneven paths. Climb up to the viewpoint of the Huit Semois, with a nice view on Membre on your right and Bohan on your left.

In summer, initiation, discovery and advanced rowing, in July with courses for children and adults, organizing hiking: booking early in the morning session 8:45 or 13:45 in the afternoon. No boat rental in particular. Club Nautique de Charleville-Mezieres is labeled French School of Rowing 2 stars and Label Handisport FFA.

Between Charlevilles-Mézières and Givet, the Meuse crosses the Ardennes massif in cheerful twists and turns. But in Monthermé, more than anywhere else, the loop to be seen from the Roche à Sept-Heures is geometrically perfect.

The Ardenne is dotted with real or imaginary traces of the four rebellious brothers. What does it matter if the Geste took place in Montauban, Dinant or Bogny-sur-Meuse, the forest of the Ardenne was in fact to be their only refuge. In Bogny, the rocky ridge, set in stone, evokes the speed of the four brothers, fleeing the anger of Charlemagne. This outstanding site is accessible via a path through the wood leading to a panorama dominated by the statue of the four brothers, sought throughout Europe by Charlemagne’s army.

The Meuse comes up against three huge rocks. It’s an amazing sight, providing a vision of another country. So it’s hardly surprising that few people went there: it was said that the devil held diabolic meetings there…

The Celtic soul endures in the Ardenne… They say that these quartzite rocks may be the Cyclopean remains of a huge, ruined castle. Not true at all! Although this chaotic rock formation is perfectly natural, from prehistoric times it served as a bivouac. These days it is above all one of the loveliest spots in the region. Walking here, you can smell sulphur. A diabolical pact is said to have been made between a lord greedy for power and the devil himself. The former was to obtain a huge castle, the latter the soul of the lord, if the lord managed to complete the castle before the cock crowed. Just as he was setting the last stone of the building, the cock crowed, signalling the dawn. Too late! Out of fury, Satan destroyed the castle he had just built, sending huge blocks of stone hurtling down the mountainside to the bed of the Semoy river.

Saint-Lambert church, located in the centre of the village, was completely rebuilt on 12 April 1829, according to plans adopted by the town council. The foundation stone was laid on 19 July 1829 by the Prefect of the Ardennes, Baron de Lascourd. The church, enlarged and fitted with a stone tower for strength, has an elongated plan. The five-bay, three-vessel nave is preceded by a western section comprising the bell tower, an entrance vestibule and two passageways. The chancel comprises a straight bay framed by two storerooms and a polygonal semicircular apse, with the sacristy adjoining. Built of schist rubble with ashlar elements from Dom-le-Mesnil, the interior is rendered, and the floor is paved with a black and white marble chequerboard pattern. The walls are pierced with semi-circular bays. The west facade, adorned with a central semi-circular portal framed by two forebays, includes two side portals with half-moons leading to the side aisles. The bell tower has two identical levels, with a central bay flanked by niches. The side aisles have ceilings, while the nave and chancel have semi-circular vaults, and the apse is covered by a cul-de-four. The slate roof features long-sloped roofs for the nave and the right-hand bay of the choir (with hipped roofs for the side aisles), a polygonal hipped roof for the apse, a long-sloped roof for the sacristy, and an imperial roof topped by a polygonal spire for the bell tower.

According to tradition, the brigands were situated here in order to reach the boats and to steal from them.

Saint Pierre church is located in the eastern part of the village of Anchamps. It has an elongated plan. The nave and the choir form a single vessel which ends in a three-sided apse. The square bell tower is located on the ridge of the nave on the west side. The walls are made of slate rubble, but the frames of the choir bays and the portal are made of Givet blue freestone. The nave of St Peter's church was probably built in the 17th century, but its portal was rebuilt in 1766 (date written on the keystone of the arch) certainly at the same time as the choir was rebuilt. Without it being known which part was involved, the church was restored in 1825. The church is only visible from the outside.

The Beguin company, which operated before 1955, was replaced by Établissements Gafteaux, originally from Deville. Most of the buildings date back to the 1930s. In 1979, the company became Mécatol, specialising in sheet metal work, mechanical welding and general mechanics, with an extension to the workshops. In 2005, the employees took over management under the name Mécatol Industries, producing metal components for the construction industry (doors, beams, fencing). The 1,394 m² site (1,200 m² of which is covered) comprises four two-bay buildings to the north with shed roofs and partially rendered rubble stone walls, pierced by continuous bays (1930s), as well as a workshop with metal cladding and concrete blocks added in the 1970s. The roofs are of mechanical tiles.

Founded in 1855 near the confluence of the Goutelle and Meuse rivers, the Hardy-Capitaine company, set up by Auguste Hardy and Pierre Nicolas Crépel, joined forces with François Hervier to produce railway fittings. In 1889, a foundry was set up in La Haillette, specialising in the casting of grey and malleable cast iron and steel. Innovative, it quickly adopted mechanical casting and, by 1914, had 4 cupola furnaces and 10 annealing furnaces, with capital of 1,500,000 francs. Taken over in 1963 by Nicolas Amand, it produces spheroidal and alloy cast iron for the rail, agricultural and industrial sectors. In 2008, the plant employed 42 people on a site of 22,170 m², comprising 7,000 m² of covered buildings, 11 bays of brick shed, and a period chimney still standing.

In 1767, the inhabitants asked for a larger church to accommodate the foreign workers. Completed in 1774, but finished in 1777, Sainte-Marguerite church features galleries added in the 19th century. The chevet was partially rebuilt in 1987 after a lorry crashed into it. A former parish chapel mentioned in the 13th century, it was dedicated to Saint Marguerite in 1532 and became a parish church in 1687. Situated to the north of the village, it has an elongated plan. The four-bay, three-vessel nave precedes a choir with a semicircular apse and a sacristy adjoining the north aisle. A western section includes the bell tower, chapels and staircases leading to galleries extending over the side aisles. Built of Romery rubble and ashlar, it has a chequered floor of marble and slate. The ordered facade, with a semi-circular portal and a triplet of bays, illuminates the organ loft. The depressed barrel vaults imitate ogives, and the apse is vaulted with radiating quarters. The whole building is covered in slate, with an imperial roof for the bell tower topped with a lantern.
