The magnificent abbey is sober and elegant, following the precepts of rigour and austerity of the Benedictine order, which disappeared here in the 18th century. Today, in addition to the beauty of the architecture, the visit allows you to discover antique furniture, tapestries, typical painted canvases... Remarkable points in the vicinity : In Hambye : Remains of the Paynel's castle: remains of the enclosure, of the square keep and of a circular tower. Parish church from the 15th century, rebuilt in the 19th century: portal of the former church, square bell tower topped by a dome, old statues, high altar at the end of the 17th century and a vast painted altarpiece. This hike introduces you to the Art Campanaire, the Dinandiers and one of the first commanderies of the Order of the Hospitallers. Monuments and remarkable sites mark out this route. Remarkable points on the circuit 14- Mount Robin: In the heart of the bocage, from valley to valley, hedges delimit the fields and shape this typical Normandy landscape. These hedges are particularly welcoming biotopes for a very rich fauna and flora. 15- The church of Notre-Dame des Marais in Gouvets: It was built at the bottom of the valley in the XIIth century, a legend says that a mason threw a stone saying "where you fall, we'll build the church". The building was built near the river, at the place where the stone fell. 16- The belvedere of Saint Vigor des Monts : Belvedere with orientation tables offering a view of the Norman Bocage. A bread festival takes place there every year in May. 17- Le château de la Roche Tesson de la commune de La Colombe: Site of the former castle of La Roche Tesson destroyed during the Hundred Years War (1427) by the Duke of Gloucester.

This bucolic site also features a picnic area. 5- Beauchamps chapel: You pass through the old village of Beauchamps, whose 11th-century church was destroyed by a lightning strike in the 19th century. Only the small south chapel remains in the cemetery. Beautiful old houses with round arches and statues of the Virgin Mary line the route to Beauchamps. Come and discover them! 7- Château de Beauchamps: On your left, high up on the hill, are the remains of the medieval Château de Beauchamps, whose first owner, Hugues de Beauchamps, was a companion of William the Conqueror. This castle is the birthplace of the Anglo-Norman lineage of the Beauchamps, who became Earls of Warwick or Worcester, one of the oldest counties in the peerage of England. You're standing on a promontory overlooking the River Airou, facing Dragueville to the north. 8- The ruins of the Château du Ducal in Gavray: The Château du Ducal site offers a fascinating tour of the remains of this ancient medieval fortress, with panels telling the story of the region. Overlooking the Sienne River, at the crossroads of the routes to Mont Saint-Michel and Brittany, it's a strategic point and a great vantage point. Worth a detour. 9- The Sienne at Gavray: In Gavray, along the Sienne, there were numerous mills and paper factories in the 19th century. You'll follow its course, passing the Moulin Fouleur, the Moulin à papier, and more. The Sienne is a river that flows into the sea at Le Havre de Regnéville, 25 km away. 10- Le moulin Mauny: This is an opportunity to learn about the many paper mills and factories that sprang up all along the Sienna Valley in the 19th century. 11- Sainte Trinité church in Hambye: Dedicated to the Holy Trinity in the late 19th century, it was consecrated in 1899 by Mgr Guérard, Bishop of Coutances and Avranches. The church has a neo-Romanesque basilica layout, with a nave in the center, aisles to the north and south, and a choir forming a circular apse to the east. Two types of stone were used for the exterior construction: pudding stone and granite. Inside, frescoes painted in 1935 by Charles Rocher - known as de Gérigné.

The village is part of the "Village Patrimoine". 7- The historical bell of La Haye Pesnel: cast in 1793, with a revolutionary inscription, classified as a Historic Monument. Big Flower Festival in August. 8- The Lucerne Abbey: Founded in 1143 and built in the hollow of the Thar valley, the Abbey was restored in the 15th and 17th centuries. It is of Romanesque style, of Cistercian spirit by their sobriety and their rigor. The ensemble is dominated by an Anglo-Norman tower which heralds the Gothic architecture. 9- The castle of St Pierre Langers: We can notice on the lawn of the castle, the oak Plaids several times centenary. It is under this venerable tree that the lord of the place made justice. The beautiful residence was transformed many times since the castle with motte of the high Middle Ages until the rich manor with the classical style which one can see currently. 10- The Menhir of Vaumoisson : The Menhir of Vaumoisson, or "Devil's Stone". Satan, in charge of this block taken in Chausey, carried it for the construction of the Pont-au-Bault. He was climbing the gable when he saw a priest. He then let his burden fall. His 5 claws remained imprinted in the granite.

The Route des Chiffonniers is a hiking route linking the coast (Saint-Pair sur Mer) to the Sée valley. The 84 km long route criss-crosses the inland areas of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, crossing varied landscapes between sea, hedged farmland, undergrowth, valleys... Another way to discover the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel! The Route des Chiffonniers brings to life the roads used by the ragpickers to transport the sail and cloth scraps from the ports to the mills of the Sée valley where they were transformed into paper. To cover these 84 km, be accompanied by pack donkeys! Ideal companions for carrying luggage and leaving in total autonomy, the donkeys can also carry children and make the hike accessible to all.

Peaceful all along the Bérence river, the difficulties follow on from one another when it comes to reaching the village of La Baleine and the Sienne valley. The circuit then becomes technical and particularly difficult north-east of Gavray. The slopes and descents follow one another, considerably limiting the recovery time. As you will have understood, you need to be experienced to take this route.

Stage common to the Vélomaritime and the Vélo WestNormandy. The itinerary first follows the Vire valley, then crosses several rural communes and charming hamlets until the medieval town of Tessy-sur-Vire, where you can see some very beautiful granite buildings. The Gîte du Petit Maine is located in a quiet housing estate in the market town of Pontmain, close to the basilica and shops. The ground floor comprises a fully-equipped kitchen (oven, fridge, dishwasher, gas hob, toaster, kettle and microwave), a dining room with wood-burning stove and a sitting area. Bathroom with bath and shower and separate toilet. One bedroom with a double bed and another bedroom with two single beds, both on the ground floor. Outside, a south-facing enclosed garden. The Protestant history in the heart of the countryside Several local noblemen adopted the reformed religion in the middle of the XVII century. The Protestant history of the local area started around 1553. The first temple was constructed in 1610 at the Chêne Guérin and a cemetery was created nearby in 1612. The temple was destroyed and stopped by King Louis XIV in 1679 and served as a quarry for the bell housing of the parish church in 1746. The hospitals of Torigni-sur-Vire and Villedieu-les-Poêles were as a result of this revenue. A second temple was constructed on the rectangular site of Neufbourg in 1817. Constructed with stone mullions and covered by a slate roof and lit by six large windows. A third temple started to be erected in 1847. This remained unachieved following the death of the Pasteur Sabatier, and the elevated costs. These two temples were restored in 2006 and 2010.

Our Lady of Hambye Abbey was founded in 1145 along the river Sienne by Guillaume Painel, lord of Hambye. The abbey hosts Benedictine monks until the French Revolution. Partly dismantled in the 19th century, the abbey was saved in 1956 through the acquisition of the monastic buildings by Mr and Mrs Beck. The abbey church, the gatehouse and the lay brothers’ building were bought by the County Council of la Manche in 1964. Considerable works to restore and stabilize the remains of the abbey were undertaken. For more than 50 years the aim has been to preserve the dignity and beauty of the site and to improve its integration into the serenity of its fragile natural surroundings. For a moment out of time, stroll through the monks’ old cloister at the foot of the church's imposing ruins, admire the fine architecture of the chapter house, jewel of norman gothic architecture and linger in the shade of Virginia tulip trees in the Eastern garden. Protected as sensitive natural areas, the surroundings of the abbey offer multiple hiking trails to discover. Throughout the summer, exhibitions and various workshops take place as well as concerts of medieval and sacred music.

In this landscaped park, a monument erected on the site where 11 members of the French Resistance belonging to the Manche section were shot dead on June 15th 1944.

Dating back to end 15th /early 16th century, Notre-Dame de Villedieu church gives the most authentic account of the creation of the famous town of copper and the collective memory of its inhabitants. Its style is marked by every step of the spiritual and temporal life.

In a very attractive workshop from XIX century, some traditional techniques of moulding with a base of clay, of horse manure and goats hair mixed with modern technology like analysing the resonance to check the sound of the bells. The new bells of Notre Dame in Paris were made here. At the end of the visit you can ring the bells with a mallet to create some melodies or listen to the range of little bells. This educational and fun visit ends in the themed shop where you will find the best of the local crafts: bells and hand bells, weather vanes, copper cookware and local products...
