7 km trail through the heart of the city on the GR36. Walking along the river banks, at the foot of the cathedral and Berbie Palace, demonstrates perfectly the position of the city in relation to the river. The Riverbank Path: Departs from the Cathedral car park and leads to the mouth of the Caussels brook, passable in any season. At the foot of the Cathedral and the Berbie Palace, it allows you to understand the city’s location in relation to the river. Every summer, near the scow pontoon, an ephemeral garden gives a distinctive tone to the Echappée Verte. The Wild Path: Between the Pont-Neuf and the Avenue du Loirat, the wild path is only accessible on foot for more experienced walkers (steps, fording, rocky areas) and is only feasible during the summer season. The wearing of closed shoes is recommended. The Mouline Path: from the Avenue de Loirat to the Planques car park, the Mouline path runs along the crest of the Caussels slope, along a vast plain. This section is accessible to bikes and is an easy walk. It is particularly suitable for families.

On the stony plateau, the old monks' path crosses a subtle landscape. Crops, groves, vines, paths and traditional buildings make up the harmonious and luminous assembly of a small-scale landscape. A monastic path: Clearing a formerly forested Tarn revealed not only rich land but also almost barren places called "èrm" (wasteland). Like Herm, near Mouysset. Who cleared the land? The monks, for the most part. The monastery of Hauterive (near Castres) was one of the first in Gaul to apply the rule of Saint Benoit. Although this rule recommended that monks should not "spread out into the open", they quickly deviated from it to gain land in the forest and cultivate it. The monks of the Abbey of Bonnecombe, in Rouergue, cultivated around their barn in Bernac (south of Castanet) and used, for six centuries, the famous "Chemin des Moines" to transport aniseed, cereals, coriander, pastel and saffron.

This trail takes you through a landscape typical of the Tarn valley: fields, vineyards and woods. There are plenty of views of the surrounding villages and, on clear days, even of the Pyrenees. There are regions where the pigeon is king. This bird (Lo colomb, in Occitan) was prized for its meat, but also for its droppings, which were used as a powerful fertiliser in the Gaillacois vineyards and fields. Many ‘colombièrs’ (dovecotes) have also left their mark on the Tarn landscape. You will see several around the village. There is a shorter alternative route from point 3 that joins the itinerary between points 5 and 6. The return journey takes you past the 19th-century Château de Labastidié.

During the 9.5 kilometres of this loop, starting from the village of Cestayrols (near Gaillac), a great diversity of landscapes made up of vineyards, valleys and sunflower fields will be offered to your eyes. During your journey, you will also discover the very picturesque and charming rural heritage, with its pigeon lofts and its wash houses, witnesses of the activities of our ancestors.

The Sentier des Quatre Châteaux (Four Castles Trail) takes you through the village of Sénouillac and the surrounding area, passing close to a number of private châteaux. Along the way, you'll also discover the vine-covered hillsides that have made this region so rich and famous. The name of the route refers to four châteaux: de la Bonnette, de Linardié, de Saint-Martial and the most famous: Château de Mauriac. The latter is the only one open to the public. The painter Bistes bought it in the 1960s and completely restored this 15th-century building, which is thought to have been built by the Templar Guiriaudus de Mauricius. Some winegrowers have diversified into olive growing, sometimes even converting to it, simply because they are passionate about it or because the climate is changing for the worse. However, growing olives is not the same as growing vines. This is a major challenge, because while some wine-growing land may be suitable for olive cultivation, its long-term profitability remains subject to the risk of a water shortage or the severe frost still possible in our region. The combination of trees and vines, known as agroforestry, is an ancient practice that has long shaped Mediterranean landscapes through the trilogy of olive trees, vines and wheat, and is still practised in some parts of Europe, where cherry trees, peach trees, almond trees and truffle oaks are still grown alongside vines. Trees limit climatic excesses, improve the soil and, by bringing water up from the depths to the surface, also improve water resources. Exploring the 13 kilometres of this trail, you will walk along on the limestone rocky trails which run through small valleys adorned with the Souel-Livers’ plateaux cliffs. You will also discover its delicate vine landscape where the white stone brightens up the stunning local architecture. The other inspired hill : As an architectural tribute to the passing of time, Cordes sur Ciel holds an intense power of seduction that knows how to act on great minds. In 1908, Thomas E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) met it, forgotten: "An artist could (...) paint here for a year without repeating himself, and all his pictures would be beautiful: it is a dream city with also, in addition, a touch of nightmare". In 1954, Albert Camus noted: "one travels for years without really knowing what one is looking for (...) and one suddenly arrives in one of those (...) places which await each of us in this world. The traveller who, from the terrace of Cordes, looks out over the summer night, knows that he does not need to go any further, and that if he wants to, the beauty here (...) will take him away from all solitude".

Cahuzac sur Vère is a charming little village nestling on the banks of the River Vère. Take the trail to discover the local heritage and the beautiful rolling countryside on the Gaillacois hillsides. The wash-houses had a social role, and were known as the ‘women's parliament’. They were used not only to wash clothes, but above all to rinse them. Each family was allocated the use of a washhouse. You can see three of them along the route. ‘Granejouls’ comes from ‘Grenier de Jules’. The construction of the Toulouse-Capdenac railway brought to light a number of Roman-era infrastructures, which are on display at the Musée St Raymond in Toulouse. You'll see the Cahuzac viaduct, commissioned in 1864 to allow trains to cross the valley. It is 378.50m long and has 19 arches.

A trip on the River Tarn aboard a traditional flat-bottomed boat. Various departures from the banks of the Tarn between 11:00am and 6:00pm. ‘L’Hirondelle’ and ‘Les Copains d’abord’, scows with a traditional flat bottom, cruise along the Tarn and offer passengers unexpected panoramas of Albi’s heritage and a tranquil atmosphere on the Tarn. The Toulouse-Lautrec museum is located in one of the most beautiful corners of Albi: the Berbie Palace. The Palace is one of the Episcopal City’s major sites with World Heritage status. The museum is recognised internationally for the works of this artist from Albi. TOULOUSE-LAUTREC, A UNIQUE COLLECTION IN THE WORLD The world’s most important public collection of the works of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, including 31 posters by the lithograph painter, is to be found in Albi. There are also no fewer than 219 paintings, 563 drawings and 183 lithographs displayed in the museum. Early works, major portraits, paintings of brothels, prints from the world of entertainment, advertisements and later works are presented there, giving this museum an exceptional collection. Each stage of the production is represented, highlighting his gift for observation, his talent as a draughtsman and his quality for capturing significant detail. This remarkable ensemble, erected in the 11th century, combines Romanesque and Gothic architecture. - The Coombs and banks of the Tarn offer a magnificent view of the Pont Vieux (one of the oldest bridges in France, built around 1035 - 1040). Listed as a World Heritage Site (UNESCO) since July 31, 2010, "Albi the Episcopal City" ranks among the 911 high places of natural and cultural heritage of Humanity. If we talk about it so much, it's partly because of the red brick. It's an ideal holiday home for recharging your batteries and spending a holiday full of discoveries with family and friends. The house was renovated in 2013 and is therefore completely new, to accommodate up to eight people. It comprises two bedrooms with double beds, one bedroom with bunk beds and a cot, a large fully-equipped kitchen with dining area, a spacious living room with a sofa that converts into a bed, two bathrooms and two toilets. The house also offers two outdoor areas: a courtyard at the rear of the house and a garden around 50 m away. The small medieval village of Salles sur Cérou is ideally located, close to the city of Cordes sur ciel and 25km from the UNESCO World Heritage city of Albi and the Gaillacois vineyards. Les Rougemonts holiday cottage, situated in the oldest farm building on the site, dates from 1861 (90m²). It is the ideal place to stay in Ségala, Tarn for a wonderful holiday with family or friends, as it accommodates 4 to 5 people (two bedrooms). Imagine the activity in the living room a few decades ago, when you see the original cement tiles. But for your comfort, you'll find all the contemporary equipment you need to cook to your heart's content and a cosy living room to relax in. On the night side, there's a bedroom with blue/green tones and the morning sun to gently wake you up. The other bedroom, with its linen drapes, is more spacious and can accommodate 3 people.
