The chapel of Jévaux (also spelled Gévaux) is located in a clearing in the middle of the Vieille Poirière forest, in the municipality of Jouy-sous-les-Côtes, which is where its name comes from. The former parish church of Saint-Martin, now a chapel, dominates the village. It comprises a bell tower surmounting a square bay extended by a semicircular apse, flanked on the north and south by two small rectangular transepts. It dates from the 12th century. The transept crossing is vaulted with ogives made of large rounded cornices whose ends, embedded in the walls, end in the shape of a pencil point, which is quite common in Lorraine. Less common is the fact that the arms of the transept have transverse barrel vaults. The apse is cross-vaulted, with decoration added in the 18th century. This combination of different architectural techniques is what makes this building so interesting, and it is listed on the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments. When the nave was demolished, the side altars and their altarpieces were moved from the nave to the transepts. The Choloy-Ménillot national necropolis was created between 1914 and 1924 and comprises three parts. The first is the French cemetery, containing the graves of 1,079 soldiers: 1,926 French (14-18), 1 British, 49 Polish, 6 Romanian, 86 Russian, 2 Serbian and 9 other French (39-45). The second part is the British military cemetery, containing the remains of 461 British, Canadian, New Zealand, South African and Indian soldiers.
