From the depression of the coast of the Meuse to the karstic plateau of the Western Vosges, your route will be punctuated by traces of the past : churches, chapel and monuments are visible in the town of Greux and in the woods of Brixey.

In the heart of the forest of Sionne and of Frebécourt, there are 4 indomitable dwarf beeches. You will encounter these fantastic trees with their fairytale appearance, but also another equally strange phenomenon : the sinkhole. The images intermingle, in a few metres the landscape can change rapidly. Generous and verdant nature, meadows, where flows the Saônelle stream are part of the landcape.

The chapel of Jévaux (also spelled Gévaux) is located in a clearing in the middle of the Vieille Poirière forest, in the municipality of Jouy-sous-les-Côtes, which is where its name comes from. Indeed, before the construction of the chapel, there was the "Jouy Val farm", Jouy, of a Gallo-Romanic toponymic type "Godiacu", based on the Christian personal name Godius, so Jévaux means the "Val de la Joie". A first chapel was built in the 12th century by the Premonstratensian monks of the abbey of Rangéval (commune of Corniéville), near a spring reputed to be miraculous. First of all, to park, there is quite a lot of space, and if the weather is nice, there are a few small streets perpendicular to the Grande Rue in Lucey that allow you to put the car in the shade. The circuit starts with a few paths going up behind the village towards the forest on 200-300 meters. Once you are in the forest, the principle is to zigzag up and wait for the plateau where the fort is located. The latter is covered by vegetation, and will only be very little visible. You will cross here and there some constructions annexed to the fort to brighten up the walk =) /! Watch out! The walk goes around the fort, but not inside. It is not advisable to try to venture inside, especially with small children or animals: there are many holes and not all parts inside are stable. Located 3.5 km north-west of Vaucouleurs, close to the D964 road, Gombervaux Castle is one of the few examples of mediaeval architecture to have been so successfully preserved. Its frontage and keep are majestic and impressive and its rooms are beautifully decorated. It is a 14th-century castle reflected in the waters of its moat and set in a lush green valley. The musée du cheval is the only horse museum in Lorraine and it is located in the centre of the Upper Town, in an old fortress that was partially demolished in 1633 on the orders of Cardinal Richelieu. Today, all that remains of the castle is the tower once used as a prison for common law criminals and a shelter for the homeless. Now, it contains the museum's collections. Other exhibits are set out in the adjacent building, the old courthouse. The museum has numerous horse-related items such as bits, stirrups, horseshoes and saddles from different periods in history, designed for various uses (military, agricultural and civilian). Don't miss the selection of saddlers' and blacksmiths' tools and the room in which horses were treated for their ailments.

Located in the commune of Greux in the Vosges department, three kilometers north of Jehanne d'Arc's birthplace, the chapel and hermitage of Bermont have watched over the Meuse valley for over a thousand years. Jehanne loved to go there on pilgrimage, on Saturdays and often during the week, to offer candles and flowers to Notre Dame, to meditate and pray. The foundation of this poor sanctuary is lost in the mists of time, in the shadow of Saint Maurice and Saint Martin. A humble land of the Church, a discreet witness to the history of France since Hugues Capet, Bermont has nonetheless survived the trials of the centuries. Today, the association Notre Dame de Bermont - sainte Jehanne d'Arc, a simple link in a long chain, is striving to restore this modest sanctuary, while respecting its history and eremitical tradition, and helping visitors discover its endearing story. The chapel contains wall paintings from the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries, as well as 14th-century Gothic statues of Notre-Dame de Bermont and Saint-Thiebault. Outside, you can see a contemporary bronze statue erected in 2012 to mark the 6th centenary of Joan of Arc's birth.

The early church of Greux was built into the hillside like the old village. Its rectangular site is behind the group of three statues facing the village today: the Virgin Mary, Saint Margaret and Saint Joan of Arc. The church of Saint Maurice was rebuilt in 1733, when Jean Jacob had been parish priest of Greux for over forty years. His tombstone states that he built the church with his own money. However, the local inhabitants contributed to the work. Farmers volunteered to carry all the materials, and other residents contributed workdays as laborers or masons, according to their abilities. The date of the church's reconstruction is inscribed on the richly decorated portal. Inside the church, there are 2 stained-glass windows: one depicting Joan of Arc praying in Bermont, the other Joan of Arc listening to her voices. The baptismal font is original, dating from 1773. It is assumed that a large number of children were baptized in this church.
