Musée Lorrain du Cheval

The musée du cheval is the only horse museum in Lorraine and it is located in the centre of the Upper Town, in an old fortress that was partially demolished in 1633 on the orders of Cardinal Richelieu. Today, all that remains of the castle is the tower once used as a prison for common law criminals and a shelter for the homeless. Now, it contains the museum's collections. Other exhibits are set out in the adjacent building, the old courthouse. The museum has numerous horse-related items such as bits, stirrups, horseshoes and saddles from different periods in history, designed for various uses (military, agricultural and civilian). Don't miss the selection of saddlers' and blacksmiths' tools and the room in which horses were treated for their ailments.
