The Panther 111 tank, which bears witness to the town of Houffalize's painful past, is enthroned in the centre of the Square Saint-Pair. In this museum space, the visit is accompanied by a dozen educational panels telling the story of Houffalize during the Battle of the Bulge.From the causes of the Battle of the Bulge to the aftermath of the war, via the junction of 16 January 1945, discover the events that have marked the region right up to the present day.New since January 2025:The period barracks display objects and scenes from the Battle of the Bulge. These testimonies to historical events provide details of living conditions during the conflict.This indoor area is open to visitors free of charge, every day of the week from 9am to 6pm.Panther tank and educational panels outside are permanently accessible.

The German tank at Houffalize is a Panzer Mark V Sd. Kfz. 171 Ausf. G known as PANTHER 111. Its first missions were during the Battle of Normandy. It took part in the retreat of the German army to the interior of its borders. At the dawn of the Battle of the Bulge, he was incorporated into the 116th Panzer Division and returned to the front.Very early on the morning of 15 January 1945, he fell ass over head into the Ourthe. When the tank driver engaged the Panther on the Rue de La Roche bridge, part of the arch gave way under the vehicle's 44 tonnes. The bodies of four crew members were buried in 1947, when the tank was raised by the Belgian Engineers in Namur and the bodies finally made accessible. The Saint Roch chapel was built in 1634, during the terrible plague epidemic in order to ask for the Saint to protect the people as he had a well-known reputation for miracle-working.Source : Maison du Tourisme d'Houffalize – La Roche.

It is an ancient chapel from the Augustinians' priory, founded in 1235. It is of the primary Gothic style and has a baroque altar from the end of the 16th Century. The building has a wonderful lectern that represents an eagle with spread wings, made in 1370 by the silversmith school from Dinant. There are two recumbent statues that are very interesting: Thierry I from Houffalize's tombstone that has a great depth and Thierry II's tombstone, that is sculpted in a blackish calcareous rock and that represents him lying on a blue-stone plinth dressed with his coat of mail and his armorial bearings.Source : Syndicat d'Initiative de Houffalize.

The basement is made of two distinct lodges that can be rent together or separately: "Petite Mormont" (14 beds) and "Grande Mormont" (49 beds). Rending both the two lodges together can enable to reach a capacity of 63 beds.
