  The fortified farm of Baya has operated as such since the beginning of the 17th century. The buildings in limestone, sandstone and brick are classical in appearance and are arranged in a U-shape that opens to the south. The living quarters date from the middle of the 18th century and are presented in the way of a leisure residence. The building's horizontality is accentuated by a prominent string course marking the level of the upper levels.  Made up of nine bays, of which five protrude in the centre, the house is characterised by its vertical symmetry. It rises from a cellar level, there is a mezzanine that is accessed by a double flight of stone steps bordered by a wrought iron Regency guard rail, a second storey and attics. The house has a slate mansard roof with dormer windows of the 19th century. The perpendicular wings are partly behind the main body of the building. The west wing has an entrance porch with lowered gates and mansard roof. The opposite wing features the same gates, but has been raised and given a hipped bâtière roof. The western section was developed into living quarters in the 18th century, while the eastern side was converted in the 19th and 20th centuries. The interior of the fortified farm is exceptional for its stuccoes decorating the vestibule and grand drawing room, the paintings on three ceilings, the staircase and bedrooms. A superb 17th-century castle perched on a rocky outcrop above the Houyeux river valley in the province of Liège. Inside the castle, where about twenty richly decorated and furnished rooms are open to the public, you can admire remarkable ceilings, works by stuccoer Jean-Christian Hansche, sculptures, paintings, Brussels tapestries and 18th-century furniture. There is also an accurate full-scale replica of the hydraulic wheel built by Rennequin Sualem in 1667 which was used as a model for the machine at Marly.

The current castle is the descendant of a mediaeval fortress built on a rocky promontory overlooking the Hoyoux valley from a height of 58 metres. It is in the centre of a 450-hectare estate and is built in a natural reserve, with 38 hectares of castle grounds. Built  from 1655 onwards, in brick and limestone by Jean-Gaspard-Ferdinand, count of Marchin, the Château de Modave consists of a main building with two wings projecting on either side. The stuccoes in the Salle des Gardes and the entrance hall give the genealogy of the builders of the château, while those in the Hercules Room and the Gobelins Room - named after its three Brussels tapestries - take the labours of Hercules as their theme. In 1706, the château was bought by Baron Arnold de Ville, who perfected the “Marly Machine” which pumped water uphill from the river Seine to Versailles and was based on the machine invented by Renkin Sualem to supply the fountains at Modave. Built in painted rubble under a slate roof and closed by a finely worked gate, the rectangular silhouette of this chapel rises above a background of hundred-year-old beech trees. Probably constructed in the 18th century, it houses a statue of Saint Eutrope in polychrome wood. Not far away runs the Solières stream. Site listed (chapel and spring) on 13th August 1987
