Castle Modave

A superb 17th-century castle perched on a rocky outcrop above the Houyeux river valley in the province of Liège. Inside the castle, where about twenty richly decorated and furnished rooms are open to the public, you can admire remarkable ceilings, works by stuccoer Jean-Christian Hansche, sculptures, paintings, Brussels tapestries and 18th-century furniture. There is also an accurate full-scale replica of the hydraulic wheel built by Rennequin Sualem in 1667 which was used as a model for the machine at Marly.
