Lovers of inclinations, fans of steep paths... you are at the top of the Pays des Collines. A breathtaking view of the Mont-de-l’Enclus, Tournai, the Mont-Saint-Aubert and the Scheldt plain awaits you. At the border of Flanders and Wallonia, you will successively follow roads, dirt roads and forest trails that will lead you on the ridge. On the route, do not hesitate to have a little break in one of the many cafes-restaurants or even at the Maison des Randonneurs, where other “hiking” ideas await you. Departing from the Maison des Randonneurs, the woody landscapes of the Mont de l’Enclus are followed by the agricultural fields of the Scheldt valley. The river and its affluents structure the landscape here and also the economic activity in the region. From the green route along the Scheldt, you can observe the constant ballet of the barges; each of them transports the equivalent of 45 semi-trailer lorries of 30 tons! On the road, you follow and cross the Rhosnes, one of the many affluents of the Scheldt. From its source in the Pays des collines its bends give the celloise countryside its bucolic character. A highlight of the region and the starting point of your ride, Mont Saint-Aubert offers breathtaking views over the entire Scheldt valley and the historic city of Tournai. Once on the plains, small snaking roads lead you up the Scheldt and its RAVeL, a slow lane reserved for cyclists and pedestrians. On your route, admire Château du Quesnoy and take a refreshing break at La Maison de Léaucourt; it marshes and observation pontoons are also worth a visit. La Feuillerie is renowned for its four important sales exhibitions for gardening. Every year, enthusiasts and collectors of rare plants and antiques can meet some sixty specialised plant breeders and exhibitors who present new varieties and give advice. This 19th-century romantic park is one of Hainaut’s most beautiful botanical gardens. It is characterised by some 2000 species of trees and shrubs including rare ones such as the tulip tree, Turkish hazel and honey locust. The geometrical shape of the garden provides a view of the Mont de l'Enclus hill. Except during events groups of 15 people minimally can visit the park by reservation only. This is a privileged spot in the Pays de Collines, close to the border with Flanders. Enclus du Haut is worth a stop, not only for its woods with their signposted trails, but also for the open-air cafés and play areas that make this site the ideal venue for families. The nearby recreational centre of Kluisbergen in Flanders called “Kluisbos” constitutes a natural extension and offers obstacle courses, an indoor sports centre, a huge terrace and a restaurant. Drop in at the Maison des Randonneurs to choose a hiking, horse-riding or mountain biking trail…

The Mont Saint-Aubert is also called Mont de la Trinité because of the pilgrimages of the same name that first occurred in the 14th century. Seen from the motorway this isolated hill is like a lighthouse rising from the sea. A narrow winding road lined with magnificent houses takes you to the top. But don't be mistaken: even though Mont Saint-Aubert is mainly known as a recreation site, agriculture is still very much present here. Playgrounds, restaurants and bars enliven the top of the hill, but the walking trails take you to the heart of nature and offer magnificent views of the surrounding area.
