Welcome to the cycling tour that links the Gallo-Roman Archaeological Site of Brion in Saint-Germain-d?Esteuil to the Abbey of Vertheuil. In the heart of the Médoc, between vineyards and marshes, you will link the ruins of the Abbey of Isle to the Potensac castle. You will see the many wine estates that make up the richness of this Médoc terroir and the cooperative cellars that bring together small winegrowers.

A walking route rich in religious heritage, which gives you the opportunity to discover the vineyards and wine cellars of the Médoc. Perhaps you will be tempted by a tasting?

In the land of vineyards, in the heart of the Médoc appellation, Blaignan had seven windmills until the Revolution. At Château Tour Haut Caussan, a property with the Vignobles et Chais en Bordelais label, you will discover an 18th century windmill in perfect working order. You will also be able to admire a beautiful view of the Médoc from the Blaignan hillock. The guide for this walk is available at the Médoc Vignoble Tourist Office.

The site of Vertheuil has been inhabited since prehistoric times. In the 11th century, William VIII, Duke of Aquitaine, founded an abbey which housed a community of canons of the Order of Saint Augustine. It was devastated during the Hundred Years' War and the Wars of Religion, and rebuilt in the 18th century. This route takes you through the vineyards of the Nord Médoc, the wooded hills and the Reysson marshes to discover Vertheuil and its surroundings.

A fun and friendly treasure hunt to discover the city of Lesparre-Médoc while having fun and using your powers of observation. Accessible to all, to be done alone, in group or in family! On a 2 km route through the sub-prefecture of the Médoc, find the clues and answer correctly the questions in the guide to receive your "Certificate of Supreme Achievement". Take advantage of your passage near them to visit the "Tour de l'Honneur" (medieval dungeon) and the "Palais du Costume Mazarin". In the heart of the Médoc, between the vineyards and the ocean, Lesparre has preserved beautiful traces of its history since ancient times. The jewel in the crown is the Donjon de l'Honneur, an imposing piece of military architecture from the early 14th century. This path starts from the Tour de l'Honneur, a historical point for the town of Lesparre, and crosses a large part of the forest.

Most of the guides in the region suggest that you discover our Médoc châteaux. During your walk, we will take you to smaller buildings scattered in the middle of the vineyards and which have a direct link with the wine châteaux: these are the vineyard huts.

Following the marsh of Vertheuil, where the castle and the roofs of the abbey of Vertheuil can be seen in the distance, the walker reaches the town of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, surrounded by its wine castles From there, the path through the vineyards offers breathtaking views of the estuary and joins the palus, where a path on the dyke punctuated with "carrelets" (small wooden huts) leads you to the port of La Maréchale. This monument seems to have been influenced by that of Saint-Yzans de Médoc, which erected a "column to the Virgin" in 1856-1858 after having been delivered from typhoid fever. Was Saint-Germain d'Esteuil in turn affected by an epidemic or did the parish simply want to have "its" column too? It stands on a massive quadrangular base bearing four short Latin inscriptions and a date. The attic base is punctuated with claws and the smooth shaft is encircled at mid-height by a thick ring decorated with letters among foliage. Above a heavy capital stands a statue of the Virgin and Child.

1894 - Architect : Hosteing. This parish church is in neo-Romanesque style with its bell-tower-porch.

The megalithic monument is located on a wooded plot of land at the place called Barbehère. The dolmen was erected about 5000 years ago, in the Neolithic or Polished Stone Age. Built on a limestone base, the monument appears as a dolmen surrounded by a mound. The plan shows a burial chamber and an access area. The dolmen was an important collective burial place.

The Bollée wind turbine at Saint-Germain d'Esteuil dates from 1883. It is a type of wind turbine invented by Ernest-Sylvain Bollée (1814-1891), which was used to pump water (a wind pump). It was produced in France from 1872 to 1933, about 350 of them were installed mainly in France, in forty-four departments. About 80 are still visible.

It lies 3 km east of the town of Saint-Germain-d?Esteuil, on a limestone plateau stretching from south to north. The oval-shaped site overlooks a vast marshy area, the Reysson marsh, which was partly polderized in the 18th century. The ruins, which stretch from south (theater) to north (temple), following the shape of the plateau, are those of a small Gallo-Roman settlement covering around 10 hectares. It developed between the mid 1st and early 3rd centuries AD, succeeding an Iron Age settlement whose remains have been unearthed not far from the temple. This settlement is probably that of Noviomagus, which along with Bordeaux (Burdigala) was one of the two cities of the Bituriges Vivisques (the city of which Bordeaux was the capital), according to the geographer Ptolemy, who lived in the 2nd century AD.

Chef Christophe Lefrançais serves his famous Paëlla Royale for lunch and dinner on opening days, and couscous on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. You can also take your portions home with you! For events of at least 20 people. Halal dishes available. Delivery possible.
