Welcome to Saint-Mexant's largest hiking trail, following the contours of the commune and even taking in a few paths in the neighboring communes of Favars and St Clément. An ideal route for walking or mountain biking!

By following this circuit, you will discover that the commune of Saint Germain-les-Vergnes, in spite of its rural aspect, was a high place of the seigniory. Indeed, you will find two castles in the commune: that of Chauvel and that of Chadebec as well as its landscaped park (rare species, English river, factories, vegetable garden, forest, etc.), registered as Historic Monuments; but also the villa Giroir dating from 1895.

After discovering the 12th century Romanesque church, you will enjoy a view of the valley from the village of "Mailher". This path will lead you to the gates of the Castle before crossing the legendary Blanchefort forest, classified as a Natural Zone of Ecological, Faunistic and Floristic Interest (ZNIEFF). Following the banks of the Brezou, the Pont des Amoureux (Lovers' Bridge) will offer you a picturesque setting for a charming break before continuing on your way back to the village.

From many points on this walk, which partly follows the old Paris-Orléans-Corrèze road, you can see the massive bell tower of the Romanesque church of Lagraulière, which is listed as a Historic Monument! Its 12th century porch will catch your eye with its finely sculpted scenes. The other "remarkable" features of the church are the 17th century altarpiece, the work of the Duhamel brothers, and the "fathers' rooms" (very rare). The itinerary passes the entrance to the Château de Bellefond (17th century), which was the land of exile of Princes Baudoin and Albert, future kings of Belgium, during the summer of 1940. At the town hall, hikers can discover our Marianne, a bronze work by Daniel Esmoingt (the artist who reproduced "Imperial France" in the Louvre), born of the study of 7 female faces from Graulières photographed at random.

"Sur les rails de Bussières" offers you a hike without difficulty on the old P.O.C. track. You will cross wooded areas interspersed with green meadows, discovering ponds, mills and magnificent viewpoints.

Here's a family-friendly nature trail! Meet at the starting point near the hamlet of les Brochs hamlet, a few kilometers from the village of Saint-Mexant? Along the way, you'll discover the small Brochs pond, lush green meadows rolling meadows where a few Limousines where a few Limousines graze in fine weather with magnificent views of the Monédières monédières massif and the Monts du Cantal on a clear day!

The path of the revolt will lead you to the pond of Lachamp, scene of the first confrontations in 1790 between peasants and the maréchaussée. Built in the 12th century with a single nave and flat chevet, the church was fitted with side chapels in the 15th century, creating a false transept, and was subsequently altered in the 18th century. The capitals of the large arches of the side chapels are picturesque (heads, atlatls, snakes). These chapels are cross-vaulted. West bell tower.

A very steep path once used by local pupils to get to school. This sunken path is lined with old trees of various species, including some rare country elms that survived graphiosis, the disease that decimated them in the 20th century.

Dominated by the 12th-century church of Saint-Michel, the village of Chanteix is now home to a renowned summer music festival: Le Festival aux Champs. In 1999, the Tuberculture association inaugurated what was to become La Boîte en Zinc, a multi-purpose hall that hosts an annual program of contemporary music: a unique venue in a rural area.

A number of legends are associated with this place with its not very appealing name: according to some, brigands often robbed merchants returning from the fair in this isolated spot. According to others, lepers were confined to the Devil and washed in the Serbian bath to avoid contamination of the dispensary at l'Hôpital.

At the Moulin du Rebourg, a canal diverts part of the stream to power the mill?s paddlewheels, returning to the Maumont in the form of a beautiful waterfall. The mill once belonged to the Glandier monastery, which made it available to a modest family in return for work. The state of the farm and the mill?s activity were checked every quarter, providing the monks with an opportunity to stock up on vegetables, flour and poultry.

Ideal for fishing enthusiasts, the Pré Mélou pond in Saint Clément is laid out for you to enjoy. Take your picnic and have lunch by the water, stop off on a bench or fish with the whole family! The pond is restocked every year with roach, tench and carp. Rainbow trout are released regularly.

This former chestnut dryer has become a pretty gîte, carefully fitted out, pleasantly situated in a hamlet 10 minutes from the A20 motorway (Paris-Toulouse), well enhanced by a small garden with flowers. The entrance on the same level is through the dining room open on a small kitchen (mini-oven, induction cooker, fridge) then a living room (sofa bed in 140, TV). The miller's ladder leads to a bedroom (1 double bed). The whole is completed by a shower room/WC where a small laundry space (washing machine) has been fitted.
