Discover Barcillonnette: Gem of the Hautes-Alpes

All along this short, hot and wild hike, the path overlooks the Durance valley and its orchards. During the ascent, the Mediterranean vegetation and the remarkable view offer a pleasant surrounding.The  Bec de Crigne is a Natura 2000 site for the particularly rich bird  species gathering at the cliffs (107 birds species). At the end of the small road (which quickly turns into a track) and just after the fruit farm, turn right at the crossroads where the Natura 2000 information panel is located. At the departure, the path runs along the orchards. The path then goes up through the undergrowth and crosses  the river sometimes. This old mule track, carved into the rock is climbing and winding along the face of spectacular cliffs. Several viewpoints of the Durance Valley punctuate the ascent. After a long series of bends, the track turns right under the cliff and pass a breach. Continue on the left in a pleasant undergrowth and arrive under the sheepfold of Basse Crigne (950 m). In the meadow under the sheepfold, the path is almost hidden and branches off to the left (it does not go up towards the sheepfold). Continue a few meters and reach a thalweg. The trail is very pleasant, fairly flat and on a balcony. Continue direction south, through old meadows that the forest is gradually recolonizing. When leaving the forest, reach a track, cross it and take the path almost immediately opposite. The path is wild and climbs parallel to the track (on its left) in the direction of Haute Crigne (please note  carefully the markings). Reach the Haute bergerie de Crigne (1130 m). Go back down by the same route.

Le tour de la montagne d'Aujour, tracé sur deux territoires entre Durance et Buëch, permet d'effectuer en 57 km une boucle avec un relief accidenté dans un cadre encore sauvage de ravines de marne noire et de franchir le col d'Espréaux par son versant Nord. Au départ de Monêtier-Allemont, traverser le canal EDF et prendre la D 942 jusqu'à Ventavon. Au croisement de la D 942 / D 21, prendre la D 21 et entamer l'ascension du col de Faye (934 m d'altitude). Au croisement de la D 21 / D 48 à Savournon, emprunter la D 48 jusqu'à Chabestan. Au carrefour de D 48 /D 49, suivre la D 49 puis la D 149 pour rejoindre le village de Saint-Auban d'Oze. A Saint-Auban d'Oze, continuer sur la D 149 et entreprendre l'ascension du col des Verniers (1 035 m). Rejoindre Châteauneuf-d'Oze. Rejoindre par la D 20 le col d'Espréaux. Suivre cette route jusqu'à la route du canal. Longer le canal EDF de Sisteron pour revenir jusqu'au point de départ (Monêtier-Allemont).

An easy and fairly shaded hike, along a tracks and wide paths, which allows you to discover the forest of the Saint-Genis cirque,and to enjoy the freshness of the Riou gorges. From the parking lot, follow the track going left. At the fence, continue straight on until the Pas de Jubéo. Follow the wide forest track which descends regularly, passing all the paths on the left. On the opposite slope, the track climbs slightly then descends, still in the shade. Turn right onto a small path ("Route Forestière du Château"), descend for 100 m to an intersection ("Saume Longe"). Follow the path on the right and descend into the Riou gorges. A bridge allows you to reach the other bank and, through a beautiful forest of Austrian black pines, go up to the Jubéo forest house, then to the parking lot.

This quite long hiking makes you walk around Saint-Genis Mountains Corrie from its ridges and balcony paths. There are no difficulties during this trail. From the parking lot, follow the path on your left. Step over the fence and reach « Le Pas de Jubéo ». Take a rocky path hiking up on your left to Sait-Genis Mountain side At the « sous le pas de l’Aup » signpost, you can do a roundtrip to the Roc de l’Esculier (1432 m): take the left path through broom flowers to reach the ridges. At the junction, follow « Colombier pass » on your right. Go on a track and after two hairpin bends, turn left towards Colombier pass (1151 meters). At Colombier pass, continue on your way and take the track heading straight to Lazer pass. At Lazer pass (1191 m), take a path on your left and reach the grazed ridge. Follow it until « Porte Sereine ». At « Porte-Sereine », take the path on your right and go down into a beeches woodland which transforms into a pine trees one. On your left, go down a path leading to a forest track until « Le Chastel » signpost. Follow the left track and at the « RF du château » signpost, take the path going down the slope towards the canyons and reach a junction a 100 meters further. Follow the right path leading to Jubéo’s parking lot. Cross over the Riou river by a small bridge and hike up again in a pine trees forest until Jubéo’s parking lot.

Parcours sur piste en sous-bois dans un décor de moyenne montagne. Aucune difficulté technique sur ce circuit qui fait découvrir une longue descente. Monter la piste principale à gauche. Profiter du sentier botanique pour faire connaissance avec la flore et la faune locale. A la pate d'oie, continuer la descente à droite. À l'épingle, prendre à gauche. Rester sur la piste principale (Route Forestière du Colombier). Poursuivre sur la piste principale sur la gauche. Prendre à droite pour entamer une longue descente sinueuse sur la Route Forestière des Lacs. Au carrefour, profiter d'une vue sur les plantations de pins d'Autriche limitant l'érosion. Prendre à droite. Après le réservoir, prendre à droite. Changer de vitesse, ça monte! De retour sur l'itinéraire de l'aller, prendre à gauche. Continuer tout droit jusqu'au parking de Jubéo. Au retour sur le parking de Jubéo, profiter des tables de pique-nique pour manger à l'ombre des pins et pour se rafraîchir à la fontaine.

Ce parcours passe dans la vallée, dans un paysage largement ouvert. Le tracé, principalement sur des pistes de campagne larges et sans difficulté, fait découvrir le milieu rural de Savournon. Au départ des halles, prendre la direction de l'église sur votre gauche, suivre la route balisé VTT N°13 jusqu’à l'école . La route D 21 vire à droite. La suivre encore 200 m et continuer toujours sur le GR en direction des Gonillons et du camping. Quitter la D 21 pour prendre à gauche. Laisser le GR et prendre à droite. Suivre à gauche vers la montagne d'Aujour et continuer ensuite tout droit vers la montagne. Après la petite bergerie, aux quatre chemins, descendre enfin sur la gauche ! Revenir sur l'itinéraire de l'aller en traversant le corps de ferme jusqu'au stop.

Jolie boucle offrant un bel aperçu sur la partie ouest des Hautes Terres de Provence. C’est un parcours principalement en crête et relativement ombragé.L’église de Melve, la tour et son tube de visées et un pupitre Géopark, sont un complément culturel au cheminement De Melve (839 m), prendre la rue montante qui longe derrière l’église le cimetière. Après la dernière maison, la route goudronnée se transforme en piste en suivant une crête. Quitter la piste à gauche juste après un captage d’eau pour suivre un sentier. Une fois sur le plateau, suivre la bordure sud en allant vers la gauche, en direction de la Tour et son tube de visées. Continuer au nord à travers les pâturages pour atteindre une crête. Un passage vertigineux dans les marnes demande un peu d’attention. La suite de l’itinéraire se situe sur le flanc sud de la montagne en franchissant trois passages marneux qui peuvent être délicats. Sur la crête, prendre le sentier à gauche jusqu’au sommet. Au lieu-dit Les Croix (1 412 m), poursuivre par le sentier à l’ouest. Il suit la crête tout au long de son cheminement. Sous Tête de Boursier (1 235 m), un petit aller-retour (10 mn) permet un beau point de vue. Sinon, prendre le sentier descendant, au départ dans une chênaie, puis dans les pâturages pentus. Un passage dans les marnes un peu plus raide, puis de nouveau des zones ombragées, mènerons à la route goudronnée (D 104). Au chemin de la Plane (855 m), suivre la route goudronnée en direction de Melve. Au niveau du hameau du Serre, prendre le sentier (chemin creux au départ) qui monte à gauche. Après un court cheminement, rejoindre le plateau de la Tour de Melve, pour rejoindre le point 2. Prendre en sens inverse le cheminement de montée.

Le cheminement en boucle permet de découvrir un ensemble de fermes principalement tourné vers l’élevage des ovins. C’est une randonnée sans difficulté mais la longueur du parcours est à prendre en compte. Excellente balade de mi-saison aux paysage très ouverts.  A Melve, prendre en face de l’Église, la rue qui se faufile entre les maisons en descendant. Au sortir du village, poursuivre pour atteindre la route de Sigoyer en la suivant sur la droite. Au hameau des Baudes, quitter la route et prendre à gauche derrière les maisons une piste qui, après avoir franchi une crête boisée, longe une toute nouvelle centrale photovoltaïque, encore en construction à ce jour. Après un collet au niveau de la ferme des Plaines, le chemin pénètre dans une pinède. 800 m plus loin, il traverse des champs (attention brebis) et se poursuit par une petite route goudronnée. La quitter à droite par un sentier au niveau d’une ligne électrique. Descendre jusqu’à la passerelle qui enjambe de ravin du Syrièz et remonter de l’autre côté jusqu’à la route. Un petit cairn maçonné indique le départ de ce sentier. Prendre à droite la route goudronnée et passer devant la ferme des Masses où la route se transforme en piste pour franchir de nouveau le Syrièz. Une longue montée s’en suit pour atteindre la route de Melve à Sigoyer. La suivre 150 m sur la droite et s’engager sur une piste puis un sentier qui permet de couper un virage de la route pour arriver à Sigoyer. A Sigoyer, sous l’école, remonter jusqu’à la place de l’église. Une table d’orientation fait découvrir le panorama de la montagne de Lure, le Ventoux et les Baronnies Provençales. Une borne interactive conte l’histoire du château. Prendre l’escalier sous la table d’orientation pour rejoindre à droite une piste amenant sous le château à la crête de la Corpatasse. A la Corpatasse (760 m), continuer par la piste en laissant à droite le sentier descendant vers les Sagnières. Au bout de 200 m, la piste s’interrompt et se transforme en sentier en s’engageant dans la pinède. Une fois à Chantemerle, laisser le sentier descendant vers Thèze et le Mouson pour s’engager à droite sur un sentier qui se transforme en piste un peu en dessous de l’ancienne ferme de Mitouret. Remonter par la route goudronnée en passant devant la ferme des Fouquetis pour la quitter au virage suivant. Un sentier traverse un petit ravin et arrive sous un captage d’eau. Poursuivre par la piste en prenant deux fois à gauche. Passer devant la ferme de Verdillon et en suivant toujours la piste, atteindre les fermes de la Cabusse et de Prédannau. Laisser à droite la route goudronnée et toujours sur la piste, arriver à la ferme du Forest. En face de celle-ci, prendre un sentier peu marqué au départ qui s’enfonce dans les bois pour rejoindre une draye (chemin ancestral utiliser par les troupeaux d’ovins), la remonter jusqu’à la crête et poursuivre à gauche en vue de la ferme du Tât. Passer devant un réservoir d’eau et regagner rapidement le hameau des Baudes, point de jonction avec le départ de la randonnée.

The real boom began in 1930 and developed strongly at the beginning of the 1960s with the setting up of new irrigation networks thanks in particular to the construction of the Serre-Ponçon dam. The lake thus formed, the first large artificial earthen reservoir in Europe, is a water reservoir allowing the irrigation of the Durance Valley. The south of the Hautes-Alpes benefits from an exceptional sunshine which is particularly suitable for the orchards and vineyards along this tourist route. Along the route you will discover local producers as well as restaurateurs, and many perched villages, the castle of Tallard, between the vineyards of the Théus plain and the orchards of the Durance Valley which produce famous fruits: the "Gap pear" known since François I, the Passe Crassane, the Golden Delicious. The National Botanical Conservatory of Gap Charance preserves very old varieties of apples and pears.

This easy hike allows you to discover Arzeliers castle and the ruins of an ancient hamlet dating from the 16th century.It gives a nice point of view on the valley. At Arzeliers hamlet go down the road towards Laragne for about 1,3 km Once you have reached Logis hamlet, turn right and follow the path At the fisrt intersection, turn right and follow the trail for approximately 2 km After 2 km, turn right and follow the path which rises in the forest. When you arrive to the castle, follow the road to reach the starting point

Located at 1432 meters high, Le Roc de l’Esculier is the highest point of Saint-Genis Mountain. From this place, a wonderful panoramic view allows you to discover Savournon valley and Saint-Genis Corrie. Many hilly areas like Chabre Mountain, Lure Mountain or Arambre mountain can be seen. Further, Dévoluy mountains and Ventoux mount can be seen too.

Colombier pass located at 1160 meters high, splits up the two Aup mountain’s sides – Aup is another name for Saint-Genis Mountain –. From the pass, you can go to many villages like Lazer, Eyguians, Saint-Genis and Savournon.

When you reach the higher up part of the first big rise of the path, there is an overview on Laragnais valley and Saint-Genis town and Corrie.

La Croix pass is the only straightforward roadway leading to Savournon and the Bâtie-Montsaléon. Located at 838 meters high, you can see Dévoluy massif, Aujour Mountain and Saint-Genis Mountain. From its peak, you can see a small statue of The Virgin Mary.

The ridge of the « Saint-Genis Mountain circuit »’s hiking is an unmissable passage. This place offers a beautiful panoramic view on Le Laragnais, Channe valley and the Serrois. Many hilly areas like Lure Mountain, Monges mountain, Dévoluy mountain, Arambre mountain and more can be seen.

The small source of Saint-Lagier crosses the route forestière du Château (forest road of the castle) passing under a bridge. The stream then flows into the Riou-torrent, as one of its many tributaries. They feed the river by digging the gorges of the same name. They also fill the lake of Riou.

Overlooking the Savournon village, the Pic de l’Aigle – Eagle peak - overwhelm thanks to its presence. Visible from all the valley’s lookout points, it is an appreciated place for its panoramic views on the surrounding massifs.

Located between  Savournon and Saint-Genis, the Forest of Beynon impresses with its huge pines. It also abounds in almost invisible species  which are very remarkable either by their rarity or their specificity. Thus, it is possible to find there: Mougeot's whitebeam, astragalus de Montpellier or vesicaria, pectinate quitch and many other species.
