Experience Camping de l'Izoard in Arvieux

Jolie boucle aux ambiances et aux points de vue variées . Du parking, traverser le torrent de la rivière et prendre à gauche un sentier qui longe ce même torrent. Continuer à niveau en traversant le mélézin. Le sentier contourne la montagne de Cros.1 - Rejoindre le torrent de Combe Bonne et le remonter en restant sur la droite. Le mélézin disparait progressivement pour laisser place à des éboulis. Continuer sur un bon chemin, le sentier monte régulièrement. Après un court passage un peu plus raide, atteindre le lac du Lauzon.2 - Le contourner par la droite et gravir une dernière petite montée qui mène au col du Lauzon. Prendre le temps d’admirer le paysage et les pelouses alpines. Descendre quelques mètres, prendre à droite et rester à niveau jusqu’au col de Néal.3 - De là, suivre la crête dans le sens de la descente et rapidement redescendre à droite en direction des lacs du Cogour. Passer entre les lacs et rejoindre le torrent du Sellar. Le sentier redescend dans des pelouses alpines pour rejoindre les Chalets de Clapeytos.4 - Ici, le sentier se transforme en piste, le faux plat descendant traverse la pelouse alpine, les éboulis et la forêt de résineux. Suivre cette piste jusqu’au point de départ.

From la Casse Déserte, at the foot of Côte Belle, discover a beautiful mountain lake in the mountain pastures at the foot of the Pic de Rochebrune. From the car park, cross the road and take the path on the right that enters the forest.1 - At the point Le Vallon (2 340m), exit the forest, reach a bridle, take the path on the left. Go up until the Lac de Souliers. The same route is used for the return.

Landscapes and varied atmospheres for technical mountain biking. Exit the parking lot, turn left and quickly to the right at a fountain. Cross the bridge, turn left and then right before the second bridge.1 - Ride up the stream of the Champ la Maison on a good forest track. Continue on the main track to the Col de Furfande.2 - Pass the collar and go down by a smooth single track which connects to the refuge de Furfande. At the refuge, take the left trail, easy to ride but a little rocky until the Col de la Lauze.3 - After the mountain pass, turn left on a more technical trail with a few aerial parts and steps. Beware of the cow pens, they may exit from a corner and not be seen until the last minute. Keep on the left and reach the chalets of Queyron. Go between the chalets and reach a track.4 - Turn right and follow the trail that leads to a picnic area.5 - At the sign Clôt la Chalp, turn left towards Arvieux. Cross an enclosed plot and enter the forest. Take a smooth path mostly descending 6 - When you reach the forest track, turn left and follow the direction of Fontouse. Leave the track a little after the stream of Fontouse and take the path on the right. Continue until a bridge, cross it and turn right to find Arvieux.

From the summit of Clot la Cime, this short high-altitude itinerary offers surprising views of the Ecrins and Queyras. Its short duration makes it an ideal hike at the end of the day to enjoy the sunsets over the peaks. Park at the Col de l'Izoard parking lot, then cross the road to take the path behind the old museum. At the fork in the road, take the left-hand path; the wooden signpost points the way to Clôt la Cime. The path crosses the mountainside facing the Queyras before winding its way up to the summit. The highest point forms a summit flat. Return by the same route.

! BEWARE OF LANDSLIDES! The highest point in the Briançonnais, at 3,320m, the Pic de Rochebrune offers breathtaking panoramic views, after a high-flying hike that requires a few mountaineering steps to reach the summit. Since 2023, rockfalls have occurred near the Rochebrune trail. After the collapse of the main unstable parts, and in the absence of any visible sign of new movement movement apart from residual spot purges, the exposure level of the routes has returned to a level similar to what it was before. Please remain cautious and take note of the information provided. For further information, contact the Briançon guide office on 04 92 20 15 73. Detailed itinerary : 1. From the parking lot, take the path towards Col perdu, on the left of the commemorative stele. 2. When you reach Col Perdu, go down the other side for about 100m and take the path on the right, under Côte Belle. 3. Follow this highly visible path up the mountainside. Then climb up the Casse des Oules and continue to the Col des Portes, where the path begins to disappear into the rocks. 4. At the Col des Portes, marked by a cross and a commemorative plaque, head for the gap to the right of the summit. There is no path, only cairns. The couloir descending from this gap is lined in the middle with a rocky spur. First aim for the left bank (right branch) of the couloir to reach the base of this spur, then cross to the right bank below this base and finish the ascent on this side. A firn occupies the gap all year round. 5. At the brèche, locate the fixed rope on the left of the north flank. This rope is not essential, but it indicates where to climb on rock with good holds. Remember to wear a helmet from this point onwards, as the hike turns into mountaineering. 6. At the top of the rope, take the ridge running northeast to the right. This becomes almost horizontal and descends slightly before coming to a small dihedral that leads to the gullied combe below the summits. 7. Climb the easy couloir of this combe to reach the central summit. 8. From the central summit, follow the east-facing ridge to reach the south summit and admire the South Tower. 9. Return to the brèche via the ascent route. The rope can provide reassurance for those who are uncomfortable with de-escalation. From the brèche, descend to the Col des Portes. 10. From the Col des Portes, return by the same route as at the alley. Tip: as this is a long, physical hike, we recommend setting off early in the morning, with plenty of food and water. Tricky sections: after the Col des Portes, the path is steep and some sections are on scree. The last part of the ascent is very difficult, requiring you to climb the wall. The danger is real. You'll need a helmet to protect you from falling rocks. You also need to be very careful and vigilant throughout the final climb. Warning: this route is not recommended for people prone to vertigo. This is an unmarked hiking route. The information given is for guidance only and should be adapted according to your level of experience and the day's weather. It is essential to prepare your outing before setting off (appropriate clothing, bring water and snacks, tell those around you about your route, don't set off alone...). If in doubt, or if the itinerary becomes complicated, don't hesitate to turn back.

Easily accessible from the chalets de l'Izoard in summer when it's open, this family-friendly hike takes you through a wild valley where you can observe numerous animals and enjoy a breathtaking view of the Queyras from the pass. Park near the izoard chalets, just before the straight stretch towards the Col de l'Izoard. Take the track leading to the chalets, then join the path behind the chapel. At the fork, take the left-hand track towards the Col des Ourdeis. The path gradually rises through a wide valley to the pass, which can be seen from the chalets. Return by the same route.

Climb the Grand Peygu, which towers like a pyramid at the gateway to the Col de l'Izoard. Detailed itinerary : 1. From the parking lot, take the path to the Chalets d'Izoard. 2. Follow the path up to the Chalets d'Izoard ruins. 3. Go past the ruins and continue into the alpine pasture along a narrow path on the left to reach the base of Grand Peygu. 4. Get closer to the base of the peak, by taking the left-hand side of the small ravine, located to the left of a scree, and join the ridge line. 5. Begin the ascent, following the various cairns along the way. 6. After a gap topped by a cairn, continue along the ridge, taking care to avoid the rocky bars on your left. 7. Cross the slightly steep passage (put your hands on the ground if necessary) and climb to the summit within sight.

A climb which makes you question why you're there but it's largely made up by a descent which makes you want to do it again and again. Cross the bridge at the end of the parking lot, turn right and follow the road. At the first intersection, go straight and go up. Follow the forest road for a climb on 11km until reaching the grazing meadows.1 - Turn right towards the Saint Simon chapel. Many cattle tracks were formed here, stay on the level as much as possible until you reach the Col des Prés de Fromage. From there, continue to the right towards the Col du Fromage. The trail is wide and smooth, on a descending false flat.2 - Reach a meadow with a fountain and a picnic table surrounded by a fence. Go across the fence, cross the stream and go back into the forest on a steep and narrow path. After a few curves, reach a peak and go left on an aerial path surrounded by sinkholes.3 - 300m before the Col Fromage, descend on the right (the detour at the Col Fromage still offers a spectacular view). Down a steep and technical single track with hairpin bends, steps, stony passages and passages much smoother over several kilometres. Leave a parking lot on the right and a bridge on the left and continue down. The descent becomes less demanding to end in a false flat to reach Montbardon.4 - Cross this hamlet and take a track that remains leveled. At the bridle, stay left and go down the track to access the road uphill. From there, turn left, go down slowly and turn right at the intersection. Follow the road to go back to the starting point.

A view of the whole valley of Guil, for a quick approach. Go to the end of the parking lot and follow the forest road to Rouet. Take the first track on the right (GR). Continue on the GR to the point Le Puy.1 - at the oratory, turn left on the path that goes into the woods. Reach a track, turn right and follow it to the point "Platenq la Charpenelle" (1 900m).2 - Turn left on a wide path that is rapidly shrinking and makes ascending switchbacks. Gradually emerge from the forest and reach a short portion (10m) a little more technical in shale that lead to the Col de Crèche.3 - Turn right on a level, go around the great slump and turn left directly into the forest.4 - Enter the pine forest and go down the switchbacks. Reach a wider path, turn right and quickly join the sheep pen of Péas.5 - Take the left path that reaches Rouet. The trail follows the forest track, except on a short passage from a few metres down this track, and brings you back to the starting point.

Raised in the Bois du Laus, offering beautiful views of the Laus hamlet and the Lasseron massif. From the Laus hamlet, enter the Oules valley in the direction of Pic de Rochebrune (3320m) crossing and along the Blétonnet brook, in the middle of meadows mows. For information, these are at their optimum flowering in June.1- Take the forest track for about 1500 m going past the Blétonnet hamlet.2- At 1860 m altitude, once you have left the last meadow on your right, take the path on your right.3- 250 meters further you arrive at a fork which is the point of arrival and departure of the botanical trail in the strict sense. A sign describing the trail and what you can see there is present. Go straight on.4- Climb in laces, until a new intersection. Then take the path on the right.5- After approximately 950m of walking on the mountainside, you arrive at the belvedere, the highest point of the hike. A panel with geological landscape reading is installed.6- Take back the forest trail in your back, right to make a loop, before joining the climb route. The U-turn is possible if you want to revise the plants identified by going up!

Thanks to the ski lifts, you can easily reach the high altitude forts of Les Gondrans, part of the Maginot Line. All that's left to do is climb Mont Janus to reach the fort and its panoramic views.

Take the Chalvet cable car (behind the Tourist Office) 2. On arrival, turn left towards the Terrasses restaurant 3. Continue straight ahead on the track towards Rocher diseur. 4. At Sous le rocher diseur, go straight up the rocky spur towards Rocher diseur. At the top, you can admire a large part of the Clarée valley and in the distance Briançon and its forts. On your right, you will find a military pill 5. Go back the way you came, first under the "rocher diseur", then straight ahead on the track until you come to a crossroads with a path going down on your right, heading back to Montgenèvre. 6. Take the path, which takes you back to the heights of the village. Go down the rue de la Combe. Turn left onto Rue du Rocher de Dix Heures, then left again onto Rue du Praya. At the bottom of Rue du Praya, turn left into Rue de l'Eglise to return to the Tourist Office.

The refuge sits on a large grassy plateau in a wide alpine cirque at an altitude of 2460m. In summer, the refuge is open from June 15 to September 15. It also opens in spring for ski touring. But in the meantime, there's an accessible part of the hut that can provide shelter. Just leave it clean and tidy. In winter, check the snow conditions for access to the refuge before you leave! Terzo Alpini is a refuge located in the Vallée Étroite, at an altitude of 1780 m. It is part of the commune of Névache. The Vallée Etroite is part of the commune of Névache, and is a listed and protected site. Managed by Riccardo and Anna Novo, the refuge is open in summer from mid-June to mid-September, and in winter from mid-February to mid-April. It is also open out of season on weekends (booking required). For New Year's Eve, reservations by telephone only. Catering by prior arrangement. The refuge : Terzo Alpini welcomes up to 34 guests (20 in rooms and 14 in dormitories). The refuge has hot showers on every floor, summer and winter alike (hot showers cost €1). The refuge comprises 2 rooms for 2 people, 2 rooms for 4 people, 1 room for 8 people and a dormitory for 14 people. Accommodation 1/2 board, picnic baskets on request. The cuisine: At Terzo Alpini, Italian tradition comes first! You can try Piedmontese starters such as anchovies au vert, beans in salad, petite tome, cold cuts, sweet and sour zucchinis and many other specialities. At Terzo Alpini, polenta has pride of place! It's put more than one exhausted hiker back on his feet! It's served with alpine cheeses, meat and sausage, or venison cooked by Riccardo. Of course, we also offer daily specials such as ossobuco, tajine and more... And for children, we have a special menu. The Vallée Étroite is the ideal location for a wide range of sporting activities: ski touring, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, hiking and horse-riding, mountain biking, climbing on the magnificent routes of the "Paroi des militaires"... Accessible on foot from Névache, Modane and Bardonecchia in summer, but also by car, it can only be reached by cross-country skiing, ski touring or snowshoeing in winter.

This small butterfly likes dry bushy places and open woods. As a caterpillar, it spends winter tended by ants. It becomes a butterfly in July and August in one generation. Sexual dimorphism characterizes the species. The back of the female is brown and that of the male blue with a wide grey border and protruding ribs. The other side of the wings is white with ochre rings and a white line across the hind wing, which also has black spots ringed with white.

This unique arid landscape has had a special formation. During the Mesozoic era (-250 to -65 million years ago), sediments settled at the bottom of the Thetys Ocean and formed layers of sedimentary rocks. 40 million years ago, 2 layers, one from the Triassic period (-250 million years ago) and the other from the Cretaceous period (-140 million years ago) collided and inversed. The limestones are crushed and become brittle. Subsequently, water rich in sulphate partly dissolve the limestone giving it this decayed appearance and produces a solution which forms a cement and consolidates these rocks. The friability of the rocks and the action of freeze-thaw climate continue to fuel the screes.

In the Middle Ages, a young man of the Arvieux valleymarried a woman of rare beauty from Ristolas. They had 5 daughters who found husbands, prosperity and happiness. A picture so perfect that other villagers believed it was witchcraft. 2 castes were formed, the "Renom" for the sorcerers and the "Belle", the wealthiest. This custom was kept in the valley for a long time. If the legend keeps a poetic side, other theories exist. One involves the arrival of new residents and the protectionism of natives. Another speaks of "witch hunts" that raged in the middle of the 14th century.

Usually dating from the 20th century and rudimentary in their construction, pastoral huts often comprised of only one room. The comfort was Spartan and shepherds used them when looking after their herds in summer. As sheep and cows changed pasture over the season, shepherds also had to change huts depending on the chosen pasture.

Lime is the result of limestone calcination. Between 800°C and 1000°C, the stones transform into quicklime, which is then immersed under water. Once cool, quicklime takes the form of a paste, which is called slaked lime. It has been used in construction for millennia. Many furnaces can still be found in the Queyras. Although very few written records remain, lime manufacturing must have played a role in the local economy.

The Lac de Souliers offers an exceptional view. Here, the view towards the Arvieux valley. To the right, the Pic du Béal Traversier overlooks the valley. At the centre, the Croseras ridge plunges on the gorges of the Guil. And bat the back, the Pointe de la Saume and the peaks of Fonte Sancte, Pnestrel and Houerts overlook the Ceillac valley.

Gypsum is a soluble stone and of low cohesion. When confined in the presence of water, the rock dissolves, leaving holes in the ground containing it. The land thus weakened may collapse. The Lac de Souliers settled on the dissolution funnel of a gypsum pocket. Its almost perfect circular form, earned him the nickname of the "eye of Queyras".

A cigarette butt left in nature can take up to 15 years to degrade. One cigarette butt can pollute 500 litres of water during this period.

Pangaea disappeared 250 million years ago. The continents broke apart and an ocean called Tethys was created where the Alps now stand. The local rivers and streams met this ocean, carrying tons of waste, rock tailings, dead animals and trees, all piling up and superimposing at the bottom of the ocean. The more this material accumulated, the higher the pressure on the lower layers. This pressure transformed the scattered matter into what is called sedimentary rock. The ammonite fossil you can see here dates from this period.

From February to August, the male has a particular behaviour. He rubs his antlers on young tree shoots which he bares completely. In winter, this action aims to remove the velvet-like fur covering the new antlers. But at the time of the rut, this action is to place a secretion coming from the glands located at the base of the antlers, a very fragrant substance that helps in marking his territory. It's called rubbing. The other marking technique involves scraping the ground to prepare the den. This is called scraping. When both behaviours occur, it's called fraying.

The rooms, all different, are distributed in this old fuste (traditional habitat of Saint Véran) from the second floor to the roofs. All renovated, they have their own charm with a view on the surrounding mountain. From the attic room to the room with balcony, they offer elegant and functional comfort in a warm atmosphere. They are all equipped with private bathrooms. The rooms can accommodate from 1 to 6 people. Bed linen and towels are provided. The hosts did not wish to equip the rooms with television or wifi for more conviviality within the house. However, a TV room and a wifi area are available in the living rooms. With family or friends, the living rooms allow you to relax in an authentic setting, by the fire, between stones and old larch.
