This "young" 17-year-old garden, a member of the Cotentin Côté Jardins association, was originally a collection of old roses. Over the years, this natural garden has been enriched by the addition of perennials and woody plants (Japanese maples, Nothofagus, Cornus, hydrangeas and various rare woody plants, etc.). The Romanesque abbey, a listed building, was founded in the 11th century by the Barons of La Haye-du-Puits. It was one of the first buildings to be entirely vaulted over intersecting ribs. Following its destruction in 1944, identical reconstruction was conducted by Yves-Marie Froidevaux, chief architect at the listed monuments department.

Established in Lessay since 1931, the REO cheese dairy specializes in the production of dairy products, including the famous Camembert de Normandie PDO. The cheese is traditionally made from raw milk, ladled by hand as in the past. You can visit the REO Camembert production workshops, by reservation only as the number of places is limited.

Artisanal production of smoked hams and charcuterie products. Visits to the workshop are by prior arrangement on Thursday mornings in July and August, and all year round for groups of 10 or more. The adjoining store is open every day except Sundays and public holidays, and on certain Mondays (please enquire before visiting).

The city of La Haye comes to life arount its church, built between 1851 and 1862 in a neo-gothic style. Rebuilt on the site of an ancient Roman church, the church is now spacious and light. Enclosed in the north chapel, do not miss the magnificient Renaissance tomb classed as an hisotric monument. Sculpted in black marble, it is the tomb of Arthur de Magneville, Lord of La Haye du Puits, who rebuilt the 16th century caslte. The church also still displays visible traces of more recent historical events : in June 1944, the church was bombed and also suffered during the battle for La Haye du Puits in July. The arrow of the south tower was destroyed and never rebuilt.

THE KEEP Symbol of the city, it is one of the most ancient keeps in La Manche (11th century). It is what remains of a fortified castle (and its moats) that used to overlook the area. Good to know : the keep is now closed on the grounds of current Health and Safety Regulations. On site, a sign guides you in the discovery of the keep. THE CASTLE At the beginning of the 16the century, Arthur de Magneville, Lord of La Haye du Puits, transforms the buildings furtherdown the castle into a more comfortable and modern one. Do not miss the gorgeous Renaissance door, witness of that time. Good to know : these buildings are now private, but the architecture elements can be seen from the street.
