South of the village of Freneuse-sur-Risle, along the Gué de la Salle Trail, Rudy and Jérémy — the “Green Brigade” responsible for maintaining the hiking paths — created a 3-kilometre Nature Trail inviting visitors to look at their local environment from a new perspective. Their project is based on an eco-responsible approach centred on the recovery and reuse of local materials. Through educational and artistic installations integrated into the landscape, they sought to bring together ecology and the environment, art and culture, tourism and heritage. The aim is to raise awareness among all generations of the fragile balance that links us to our ecosystem, while exploring climate and biodiversity issues in an engaging and accessible way. The trail highlights the natural and cultural heritage of the commune, often overlooked even by local residents. Rudy and Jérémy wanted to remind visitors of a simple truth that is too often forgotten: vast landscapes are not always necessary to inspire wonder, provided we take the time to observe what surrounds us. Their collection, open and constantly evolving, is conceived as a shared asset, ephemeral by nature, much like the living world itself. The rest is up to the walker: simply put one foot in front of the other and let the trail tell its story...

Starting from Pont-Authou, this route follows, in its first section, the former railway line that once connected Évreux to Honfleur through the Risle Valley. Closed for several decades, the railway has been transformed into a walking path before joining, in the final section, the Greenway (Voie Verte): a secure 42-kilometre route for cyclists and roller skaters leading all the way to Évreux. The Bec River accompanies walkers along much of the route. It flows from the nearby village of Le Bec-Hellouin, listed among the most beautiful villages in France. On the plateau, several remarkable trees draw the eye, including a double avenue of beech trees and ancient pollarded trees whose sculpted silhouettes bear witness to centuries of Norman rural traditions. These living landmarks reflect a bocage landscape shaped by generations of farmers. A route where industrial heritage and nature come together along a former railway line that has found a remarkable new purpose.

This is a walk in the middle of fields surrounded by hedgerows and a forest in the unspoilt Vièvre valley, an authentic terroir in Normandy. Along a former railway line, a ravine developed during a rainstorm or on a hillside, the walk offers a succession of panoramic views and surprising atmospheres. Mystery still remains just like the rebus on the church...

This route unfolds almost entirely beneath the canopy of the Montfort State Forest, a vast 2,000-hectare woodland covering the slopes on the right bank of the Risle Valley. The trail is distinctly hilly and reveals a rich variety of trees and forest landscapes. The diversity of species and the age of the woodland create ever-changing atmospheres along the way, from light-filled high forests to denser, more mysterious undergrowth. It is a forest best explored at a leisurely pace, allowing visitors to appreciate its seasonal transformations. Starting from the Saint-Vincent Recreation Area in the commune of Glos-sur-Risle, walkers enjoy direct access to the heart of the forest. A map showing all hiking and horse-riding routes within the state forest is available from the Pont-Audemer Val de Risle Tourist Office. The route also follows part of the Saint Michael’s Way, a historic pilgrimage route linking Rouen to Mont-Saint-Michel. Montfort-sur-Risle was one of its traditional stopping points, reminding visitors that these forest paths once served not only as routes of travel but also as paths of faith and spirituality. A true forest immersion, where woodland, silence and ancient pathways come together in perfect harmony.

Close to the Risle valley, at the edge of the state forest of Montfort, this easy hike reveals a rich heritage which includes three chateaux. The contrasting landscape alternates between forest, with two particularly remarkable beech groves, and plains and open lands, including beautiful bocage areas that feature large pollarded trees.

Alternating between woodland, bocage countryside and open plateaus, this varied walk offers a rich combination of landscapes and heritage. Along the way, hikers can admire three castles and manor houses from a distance, as well as traditional half-timbered buildings and a historic cart shed. The route unfolds through a beautifully preserved Norman setting where every turn reveals something new. Forests accompany nearly a third of the trail across two long sloping sections, including two magnificent beech groves located on the edge of the state forest and near the village. The bocage landscape then takes over, with sunken lanes lined by pollarded trees, before the rolling plateau opens onto wider views and more expansive horizons. Three historic residences can be seen from the path. The Château du Bois Héroult, an elegant 18th-century residence, stands alongside the Manor of La Hennière and the Manor of La Ferté, which belonged in the 19th century to the writer Henri Lavedan. Each reflects a different period of local history, though all remain private properties. The Church of Saint James (Saint-Jacques), built on a medieval motte, is a rare architectural curiosity well worth a stop. Traditional Norman heritage is also represented by a fine cart shed and several thatched cottages, discreet reminders of a rural building tradition that combines practicality and elegance. Between forests, manor houses and bocage landscapes, this route perfectly captures the authentic spirit of Normandy.

This route takes its name from a natural phenomenon typical of Normandy: the dour. This seasonal stream remains dry throughout the summer before suddenly becoming a rushing torrent during periods of heavy rainfall, much like a Norman wadi. Its unpredictable presence gives the surrounding valleys a constantly changing character throughout the year. The landscapes along the trail are remarkably diverse. The hilly sections are dominated by bocage scenery, with sunken lanes bordered by hedgerows and tree-lined embankments. Woodland then takes over, offering pleasant shaded stretches, including a particularly magnificent beech forest near the village. Further on, the landscape opens onto gently rolling farmland, always framed by wooded horizons in the distance. The built heritage is equally impressive. No fewer than four churches can be discovered along the route, in Saint-Léger-du-Genetey, Bosc-Regnoult-en-Roumois and Écaquelon, including the remarkable Saint-Jacques Church, built on a medieval motte and considered a rare architectural curiosity. The Manor of La Hennière and several traditional half-timbered buildings further enrich the walk. At Les Épinays, a beautiful cart shed stands beside a square dovecote, forming a charming and authentic rural ensemble. With its four churches, majestic beech woodland and seasonal Norman streams, this route offers a rich and deeply local experience.

The “In the Footsteps of the Maquis” multimedia self-guided tour, which begins at the Saint-Georges-du-Vièvre Tourist Information Center, allows you to explore the Vièvre countryside and relive the heroicheroism of the underground fighters! So, behind the wheel of your vehicle, follow the suggested 28-kilometer route. Stop at the designated locations, listen, and relive our local history!

This route invites walkers to immerse themselves in the Montfort State Forest, a vast 2,000-hectare woodland stretching across the slopes on the left bank of the Risle Valley. Highly undulating and largely covered with coniferous trees, this forest managed by the French National Forestry Office (ONF) offers a shaded and refreshing setting. Four visitor areas, including Rond de Beuvron, provide convenient access to the many walking and horse-riding trails listed on the map published by the Pont-Audemer Val de Risle Community of Municipalities in partnership with the ONF (available from the tourist office). Before entering the forest, the route passes through Montfort-sur-Risle and its medieval ruins. The moats and lower courtyard of the 11th-century castle, carefully cleared by volunteers from the Montfort Culture Patrimoine association, can be visited freely and offer a glimpse of the former power of this fortified site overlooking the valley. Montfort is also a stop on the pilgrimage route linking Rouen to Mont-Saint-Michel, known as the Saint Michael’s Way. Deep forest, medieval history and the spirituality of ancient pilgrimage routes come together here in an unexpected combination. A rich and refreshing forest escape.

In Saint-Georges-du-Vièvre, in the heart of a bucolic Normandy, explore this medieval church. Saint Georges Church comprises a bell tower with a hip roof, a 19th century nave and a rectangular choir dating from the end of the 13th century that goes with a 12th century tower on the northern side, traces it has kept from its medieval past. During the restoration works of the paving of the choir, a well was discovered in the north-east side of the church. Abbot Corbet decided to use different tiles to show the location of this well. Stained-glass windows depict Saint Georges' life. Quirky detail: on the outside walls, you can see nails that were hammered by believers to ask or thank for healing, as well as feet, boat and glasses graffiti.

Green Normandy, the way like it!!! You will enjoy the tranquillity of the countryside, between the Risle Valley and the Vièvre Forest. Saint-Georges was famous for its hand-woven fabrics for individuals. On the village's main square, linen cloth was sold and was known as "fleuret", "blancard" or "Saint Georges cloth". During your visit of the village, do not miss Saint Georges' Church, comprising a 19th century nave and a late 13th century choir (higher than the nave) with a 12th century tower on the northern side.

Near the sumptuous castle of Champ de Bataille, get acquainted with the fauna and flora of Normandy. In the heart of the rich agricultural region of Neubourg, the wooded area of Champ de Bataille (250 ha) is a perfect example of the natural heritage of the forests of the Eure. Take the discovery trail of the plant species. The 1.5 km long pathway is as oxygenating as you could wish for. The educational panels that mark out the circuit allow you to better understand the local fauna and flora, their richness and their variety. Attention: the Allée du Champ de Bataille is currently closed to the public. You can park behind the massif, passing by Vitot/Vitotel to access the wooded massif from the back.

Designed in 1993 by Gérard and Philippe, the Jardin de la Vallée (Valley Garden) is home to more than 1,000 plant species spread over different flower beds, all designed around tall trees and shrubs. Throughout the seasons, visitors fall under the spell of the blossoming magnolias (25 varieties), camellias, rhododendrons, hydrangeas (80 varieties), roses (140 varieties), etc.

In the heart of the Eure, Saint Pierre and Saint Paul's Church takes centre stage in the main square of the busy Norman town of Le Neubourg. It was rebuilt in the 15th century on the site of a former sanctuary and is characterized by its triangular choir and its three naves. Inside, have a look at its opulent furniture and the splendid retable, which was fully restored in 1987 by Norman craftsmen: its paintings, its gold decoration, its marble columns and its 17th century painting have regained their bygone splendour.

In the craft of Bonnel's plows, Henri Bonnel arranged a complete collection of plows produced by the family company until 1946.

During the 19th century, Doctor Auzoux created what he called "les Ecorchés", anatomical models made of paper paste that would sell throughout the world and train generations of doctors. The museum displays this significant legacy - the only one of its kind in the world - and this unusual and very precise know-how: a model of a human body that requires 2,000 numbered parts! It also displays species of fauna and flora including a Tsetse fly, a bee, a fern and an algae.
