41. Bec Abbey Trail – Starting point: Risle Square, Pont-Authou

Starting from Pont-Authou, this route follows, in its first section, the former railway line that once connected Évreux to Honfleur through the Risle Valley. Closed for several decades, the railway has been transformed into a walking path before joining, in the final section, the Greenway (Voie Verte): a secure 42-kilometre route for cyclists and roller skaters leading all the way to Évreux.

The Bec River accompanies walkers along much of the route. It flows from the nearby village of Le Bec-Hellouin, listed among the most beautiful villages in France.

On the plateau, several remarkable trees draw the eye, including a double avenue of beech trees and ancient pollarded trees whose sculpted silhouettes bear witness to centuries of Norman rural traditions. These living landmarks reflect a bocage landscape shaped by generations of farmers.

A route where industrial heritage and nature come together along a former railway line that has found a remarkable new purpose.
