Camping Les Hauts de Rosans: Discover Rosans' Hidden Charms

« Le chemin du facteur » – The Postman round – has a very long rise, some ridges to go through and beautiful panoramic views. A variant of this hiking also exists through Le Fourchat ascent. From Rosans’ place, take the road leading to the Pommerol pass and then take the second right turn towards the barracks. Once the barracks overtaken and the dead end reached, take the path on your right. Pass in front of the Calvary overwhelming the village to go to the ridge. Cross a track (1018 meters) and hike until the summit of le Suquet (1098 meters) is reached. After this, there is an easier climb to reach the Counière pass (1117 meters). Go on the path leading to Pertus’ ridge. From Pertus’ ridge, a return trip to the Fourchat summit (1563 meters) is possible by following the track on the right. – The return trip is about 2,6 km and 260 meters slope – Then go on the main track on the left until the Pommerol pass. At the Pommerol pass, go down the road and take the 1st path on your left leading to Rosans called « chemin du facteur ». On your right, reach and follow the hairpin bend of a wide track for 60 meters and then take the path on the left. Start walking on a flat path and go down the slope crossing some other tracks. The path goes down to Rosans. Reach the crossroads above the village and go back to the departure point by hiking the same route.

In the heart of the Baronnies Provençales, this 46-kilometer cycling route offers a beautiful ride between Drôme Provençale and the Hautes-Alpes, with the chance to spot vultures circling the skies around Rémuzat. The town is overlooked by the Rocher de Claire, where the vultures nest. This loop takes you around the Aiguilles and Raton mountains, and the Col de la Fromagère offers a panoramic view of the hidden Pommerol Valley. From Rosans, a medieval village at the gateway to Drôme Provençale (where you can admire the 12th-century “Tour Carrée”), take the D94 along the Eygues River toward Rémuzat and its cliffs teeming with birds of prey. Above your heads, the spectacle is about to begin. The rest of the route follows the Oule River, cycling from village to village: Cornillon-sur-l’Oule (a small Provençal village situated between the Diois and the Baronnies, overlooking Lake Cornillon and the Oule Valley), La Motte-Chanlançon (a medieval village perched on a hill), and La Charce (with its restored castle, its pretty, quiet streets, and its three waterways: the Oule, the Establet stream, and the Pommerol stream). From there, we tackle the Col de la Fromagère (1,072 m) via the north slope, which winds through a wild landscape where limestone and erosion have blended so seamlessly that slender “fairy chimneys” rise up. Descending from the Col de la Fromagère and Pommerol, a small road leads through a beech forest to Rosans, the starting point.

A path used until 1925 to carry mail from Rosans to Sainte-Marie-de-Rosans! Amid oak, pine, and boxwood trees, discover the Col de la Fromagère-Pommerol, the hamlet of Raton, and the heritage of the sunny village of Rosans. From Place de Rosans, head toward Col de Pommerol, then take the second right toward the fire station. Pass the fire station and, at the top of the cul-de-sac, take the trail on the left (the old mail carrier’s path). The trail crosses several tracks. Keep following it straight ahead. Join a wide trail and follow it uphill to rejoin the path at the hairpin bend. At the end of the path, reach the Col de Pommerol by following the road to the right. At the pass, take the path to the left and, 25 m further on, turn left again. The path descends into the Grand Béal, toward the hamlet of Raton. At the Raton trail, turn left to reach the hamlet. At the hamlet of Raton (720 m), continue straight ahead on the long trail toward Rosans. 30 m past a crossroads, take a path on the right that descends to a ridge. Then follow the marl deposits to reach the Pigerolles stream. At the road, a passage on the left through the stream allows you to cross underneath it. Reach the recreation center located on the other side after walking along a meadow. It offers the refreshing pleasure of a swim after a good hike. Continue by taking the exit to the left, then, at the junction with the D 994, cross the road and take the path that runs past the Saint Gabriel Chapel to return to the village.

A leisurely hike that takes you through the hills above the village of Rosans, offering stunning views of the village and its valley. From the village church, the trail climbs up into the hills along a forest road. Once you reach the top, the descent follows a path through the woods.

Along a family walk, discover the village and the surrounding man-made agricultural landscape, in the middle of arid marl lands. On the way, a stopoff is possible to the lake (« Plan d’eau ») and at the playground. On the west side of the Square, towards the petanque field, take the street called « rue du Temple » and pass over the Townhall. Take on the right the « Passage des Tilleuls », go on for about 20 meters, then take the patch along the old rounded wall, in front of you. Go on to the Chapel Saint-Gabriel. Reach and cross over the road D 994. Continue on the small road in front of you. On the right, there will be the playground and the lake « Plan d’eau ». After a sharp turn on your right, go on the patch towards the intersection after the stream. Turn left and go up the patch until you reach the departemental road D 994. Turn right, walk along the road, cross it at the crosswalk, in front of the funtain located on the small square. At the end of the small place, take the little patch along the left bank of the Estang stream, which brings you to a hairpin bend on the road. Walk up for about 30 meters, then turn straight on the right and climb up to the grazing until you reach a patch. Turn straight on your left and reach the road. Walk down the road to the departure point.

A challenging yet fun trail for exploring the Eygues National Forest and enjoying an exhilarating finish overlooking the Rosannais Valley. Starting from Place de Rosans, take the road that climbs to the right of the church. You’ll soon need to take a trail leading up to the Col de l’Archimbaou (about 6 km of rocky trail). At the top of the pass (1,084 m), amidst the black pine forests, continue along trails that descend gently down the eastern slope of the Serre de l’Aigle.A trail on the left allows you to leave the track for a few meters before resuming a short climb on the track. Let the track go off to your left and take the trail on the right. A fast-rolling section through the underbrush leads to a grassy trail section heading toward the Col de l’Archimbaou. At the pass, turn left onto a beautiful single track through the pine forest. Emerge onto a trail for the final uphill section.At the top of the ridge, take the rocky, downhill trail—it’s fast and fun. The landscape is wide open, offering a beautiful view of the entire Rosans valley. On a clear day, you can even spot Mont Ventoux. The trail ends at the road leading back up to the center of Rosans.

Very varied hike in the national forest then on the ridge. This walk allows you to discover the Vallon de l'Estang and beautiful panoramas over the Rosans basin. Discover the toponymic path (study of place-names) of the Regional Natural Park of Baronnies Provençales. From the village square, go up along the small road to the right of the Church in the direction of Lastic by the GR 91. After Lastic, the road gives way to a track suitable for vehicles. Follow it for 2 km to l’Estang (1st observation point of the toponymic path). Pass the locality while remaining on the track and enter a pine plantation. A few tens of meters further, find an old path to the right of the track, at the level of a bench, and leave the GR markings for the PR markings. Follow this path, along the hillside of the Estang valley (stream below). Cross the stream and go up to come out on a track. Follow this track to the right for 1 km (2nd observation point of the toponymic path). In a sharp curve, take a path that goes to the right and plunges onto the crest of Serre de l'Aigle. At a boundary marker of the PNR des Baronnies Provençales (3rd observation point), turn right and walk along a fence for 700 m. Continue down hill, the path bends to the left and reaches large limestone slabs. Some traces of fossils can be observed. Go down the slabs and find a path on the right which leads to a track. Continue on it. At the crossroads, turn right, and again to the right in a sharp curve, At the tarred path, turn left and descend it. Continue to the village center, along the kindergarten.

This 60-km cycling loop takes you through the Rosans region. It offers a chance to explore the rugged Oule Valley via the famous Col des Tourettes, one of the highest mountain passes in the Baronnies Provençales (1,126 m above sea level). It then returns to Rosans via the unmissable Col de la Fromagère. From Rosans, head down Rue Aristide Briand to reach Route de Gap, and follow it to the next intersection. Take Route D 949 to Montjay via Saint-André-de-Rosans. In Montjay, follow the D 226 and cross the Col de Serre Larobe (1,014 m) to reach the Serres/Rosans road. At the intersection, take the D 994 for 2 km until you reach the junction with the D 26. Begin the climb up the Col des Tourettes (with an average gradient of 7%). Follow the D 26 to La Charce. In La Charce, take the D 338 then the D 25 to return to Rosans and its Place de l’Abbé Bicais.

A short, easy bike ride to Saint André de Rosans and its 10th-century Benedictine priory. This easy loop takes you on a tour of the Rosanais basin. The fortified village of Rosans looks like a jewel set in a lush green setting. The ochre-colored facades, the sun-kissed hues of the canal tiles, and the striking Square Tower invite you to explore further! Strolling through Rosans, you’ll discover all the charm of medieval towns: cobblestone streets, covered passageways, religious buildings, fountains and wash houses, beautiful mansions, and ornate gates. Along the way, don’t miss the former Cluniac priory of Saint-André-de-Rosans, a listed Historic Monument and a fine example of Provençal Romanesque architecture with its carved friezes and 12th-century mosaics, identical to those at the monastery of Ganagobie. The route continues along the Eygues River on the D 425. At the intersection with the Ferme aux Arômes de Mange-Fèves, continue right onto the D 116. Finally, take the D 25 to return to Rosans.

Stretching about 100 kilometers, this challenging loop through the Drôme offers a diverse exploration of the Baronnies Provençales. It passes through several mountain passes, including the Col de Perty and its magnificent winding road lined with linden trees. From mid-June to mid-August, when the lavender fields are in full bloom, cyclists can look forward to an exhilarating ride with purple as far as the eye can see. From Rosans, take the D 994 below the village and head toward Verclause and the Eygues Gorges. When you reach La Combe, turn left and begin the 8-km climb up the Col de Soubeyrand (a steady gradient of over 6%, with sections exceeding 9%). Continue toward Bellecombe-Tarendol, then Saint Sauveur Gouvernet. Pass the Col de Peyruergue 6 km further on. At the intersection, take the D 546 for 1.5 km, then the D 65 toward the Moulin de Montguers. From Ruissas, continue the climb up the Col de Perty via a winding road for 9 km. From the Col de Perty, descend for 8 km. Turn left before the village of Laborel and head toward Villebois les Pins via the Col de Pierre Vesce (D 65b). In Villebois-les-Pins, continue left and cross the Col du Reychasset (1,052 m). Then head to Chauvac. At the village exit, take the D 116 to the Moulin de Mange-Fêve. Return to Rosans via L’Aubergerie.

It is estimated that the village of Rosans was founded in the 8th century after the passage of the Lombards and the Sarasins. From the top of its small hill, the village has a good monitoring capacity and a defensive advantage. A rampart that we still use to reach the heart of Rosans, surrounded the village. In the 14th century, the village was invaded by the Provençaux but resisted thanks to its garrison and its ramparts.

The Suquet ridge’s path offers many outlooks where you can admire Rosanais valley and the outset of La Drôme through the Pommerol pass.

The square tower, located in the center of the medieval village of Rosans, dates from the 12th century. The walls are made of diamond-cut stone blocks, four meters thick, and each face looks at one of the four cardinal points, so that when three of its sides are in the shade, it marks the hour of noon. This tower, wrongly called "Tour Sarrasine" is not an example of the Moorish architecture in the South of France. The building is listed as a historical monument since 1932.

Mostly situated around the mediterranean area and in the Côte d’Azur, broom flowers (Cytisius scoparius) can even be found in south Alps. Broom flowers can be seen on the whole territory and their sight and scent are very enjoyable. Broom flowers also make the landcape lovely.

Around the Estang valley, there are many names of places that are linked to water. "L'estang" (étang means pond in French) lets you guess the presence of a pond that probably used to be landscaped, but that has long since dried up. The "font du Roure" reminds us that, in Provençal, "font" means "source" and not fountain. And "roure" means “oak”. The "Grand Raille" is the river at the bottom of the valley, while the "Esserennes" designates a remote place (from the village) where there would be water.

Mentioned since 988, Rosans and its church of Saint-Arey certainly look different today, but their antiquity is real. To the west of the village is the Oche district, which is a Gallic name for a cleared area on the outskirts of the village. A "large meadow" and an "orchard", to the west and east show what type of agricultural valuation existed in the Middle Ages. To the east of the village, the clayey hillock of Saint Esteve seems to indicate Saint-Etienne, a long-forgotten church.

The Serre de l'Aigle path offers beautiful views of the Eygues forest and the village of Rosans. From there, a splendid  panorama on the Rosanais valley is revealed, delimited by the Charrancs mountain in the East.

Colonized by the Romans in 118 BC., Provence was divided into cities. For the Baronnies, Vaison and Luc-en-Diois were the two capitals of the Voconces city which dominated the region. Within these, there were divisions called "pagus" (lands). This latin term lasted for a long time and, in 988, a donation charter to the abbey of Cluny of Saint-André de Rosans, evoked the "Pagus Rosanensis". Some names of places were already mentioned, such as Rosans, Chapaïsses, Sironne or Roussieux.

On this side of the Serre de l'Aigle exposed to the adret, the forest is held back by an ovine pasture allowing to keep open environments. The fence along the trail testifies that the herds of sheep that graze in this moor are not here in summer, but that the breeder probably leads them all year round, as long as there is grass: The challenge is that the animals feed well but that the grass resource also persists.

The Pié-Léger Plateau overlooks the Grand Coste and the valleys to the east. It offers a beautiful view of the eastern part of the valley. From here, you can admire the various surrounding peaks, particularly the Coustouran.

In the campsite Flower Les hauts de Rosans, overnight rental for 1 to 6 people, from 1 to 3 bedrooms with double or single bed, in chalets, or unusual accommodation. You benefit from the services of a 4-star campsite: swimming pool, restaurant ... from few minutes to the village of Rosans. We welcome hikers staying overnight and groups upon reservation and offer half-board accommodation for up to 25 people, except in July and August.

Welcome to Les Hauts de Rosans campsite, motorhome reception and emptying area. Free services: water, electricity, emptying and Wifi. On site: bread, pastries, small grocery store, pub, snack restaurant (on reservation in mid season) and evening entertainment (in high season).

The holiday village is closed because it is undergoing a major renovation and revitalisation project. The aim is to offer facilities that meet the new expectations of holidaymakers while integrating environmental needs and regional tourism.
