The covered market replaces the one that disappeared in the fire of 1282 at the end of the 15th century. It was modified in the 17th century to stabilize it. A span was removed to build a hard limestone gable. The weekly market is always there. As well as the traditional fat poultry fair (it has existed for more than 90 years) which takes place on the second Saturday of December each year.

Saint-Martin Church is located in the heart of the village of Egreville. It is built on the foundations and some walls of an earlier chapel that disappeared in a large fire in the 13th century. It was damaged during the hundred-year war and rebuilt in the 15th century. The belfry that served as a watchtower is attached to the church in the sixteenth century and becomes its main entrance. By the 40th day after mobilisation the German High Command expected to have brought the French and British armies to a decisive battle and destroyed them. This conclusion to Schlieffen’s famous Plan relied on the Russians taking at least this length of time to mobilise via their poor railway system. The BEF played a small but significant part in the battle of the Marne even though Field Marshall French had seriously contemplated removing his men from the action to reform and rest. However, this major battle was largely won through the determination and courage of the French soldiers and their leaders. The French snatched a conclusive victory from what looked like an imminent defeat. The German High Command failed in its attempt to capture Paris and force the French government to capitulate. The ‘race to the sea’ now followed, in which the Allies and Central Powers atempted to outflank each other. The line of trenches was then settled from the North Sea to Switzerland. The Allies and the Central Powers now knew that the war would continue far longer than they had thought. The next few years would be spent in learning how to fight a new kind of war with new weapons in the air and on the ground. The price of this process would be paid in blood.

Built in 11th century, a great fire partiatly destroyed the church in 1157. The church was rapidly restored thanks to the explotation of its relics. Being the addition of varied architectural styles, Saint Ayoul church is a composite monument. The transept still has its 11th century's aspect, the nave from 13th century and early 16th. The frontage is simple whereas the interior is of a great complexity. Awfully mutilated, the main gate of the frontage mentions the golden age of gothic era with its statues. The frontcourt of the church was the first place of trade and fairs in Provins. In 1990, the monument was enriched by and exceptional gate with bronze sculptures made by the contemporary artist Georges Jean Clos ( 1933-1998).

Come and admire the magnificent wall paintings in this church, known as the Chapelle de Lourps! The chapel of Lourps is today isolated on its hillside bordered by the Voulzie. But before the Revolution, it was attached to the adjacent castle and served a hamlet whose houses disappeared during the 19th century. Its rectangular plan and gable roof make it a simple building. It has no spire and its bell is housed in the roof structure. Its particularity is revealed inside, with magnificent wall paintings from the 13th and 15th centuries! These were discovered thanks to explorations during the major restoration work that began in the 1980s and lasted 12 years. This work was carried out following the collapse of the choir vault in 1966, which resulted in the chapel being closed to the public. Inside the chapel, you will find a panel describing the different stages of the restoration and a historical booklet to learn more about this real treasure, only 8 km southwest of Provins! Victor Garnier, a very successful local industrial, who made his fortune in Paris, bought a property in 1848 in the lower part of the city. There he created an irregular garden in the English style. After his death the city received this property as heritage in order to open it to the public. This garden covering 8000 m2 is a privileged witness of the landscape art of the 19th century offering flower beds, tree combinations with unusual species (copper beech trees, catalpa trees, royal ginkgo…), a great variety of flowers and many garden sculptures. At the end of the 19th century, some interesting remaining of former monuments have been given to the garden completing it romantic aspect.

Being outside the walls, this convent was created during 13th century by Thibaud the 4th, on the hill before his palace. after he had a vision. The convent became the hospital of the city in 1749 on order of Louis the 15th. Today it is a place to keep archive, and also a school.

When you get near Provins, you notice the shapes of Ceasar's Tower and of the dome of the Collégiale Saint-Quiriace. Built in 12th century, the lack of money under the reign of Philippe le Bel the following century let the construction of the monument unachieved. The Museum, located in the Roman a house in the higher part of Provins is home to archaeological and historical collections as well as works of art that come essentially from the town and the region. This "Musée de France" (Museum of France) is housed in one of Provins' oldest civic buildings, known as the "Maison Romane" (Romanesque House). Before entering the building, be sure to admire its 12th-century façade and its magnificent diamond-shaped window. Inside, you will find priceless collections from archaeological digs carried out in Provins and the surrounding area, spanning from prehistory to the 19th century, including the Renaissance period.
