This short hike offers you to spend a nice time in the heart of the Chaume des Neufs-Bois natural classified site and its three ponds. A green setting that offers pretty views. Access: from the tourist office, follow the road N66 and turn right, after the bridge,on the road D90, towards the Rouge Gazon. Duration: 2 hours. Length: 6 km. Elevation: +275 meters. Departure: parking lot at the Rouge Gazon hotel-restaurant. Please take notice that the hotel-restaurant is closed this yearFrom the car park, take the path in opposite of the hotel-restaurant which overlooks the road by which you arrived. Walk 600 meters and, at the intersection, continue on the path following Saint-Maurice by the Sentier bleu Les Charbonniers. Continue for 300 meters and turn right towards Bussang (mountain bike route 15). Follow this trail for approximately 1 km. Discover the Chaume des Neufs-Bois above, on the left below, the first Neufs-Bois pond. To reach the Chaume des Neufs-Bois, go on the path right. On the left side, a wooden sign indicates the thatch. Continue straight ahead, do not take the path on your right. Arriving at the thatch of Neufs-Bois, enjoy the quietness and the beauty of the landscapes ... Then retrace your steps, go to the first pond and follow the path to the right which runs along this pond. Follow this path always straight ahead, walk along the second pond and go to the third one below. After a well-deserved break in this green paradise, retrace your steps and take the path between the first and second pond. Enter in the forest. After about 500 meters, look to the right and admire the thatch of Neufs-Bois in opposite. After about 1 km, you arrive at the Col des Mineurs (board). Take the path completely to the left (mountain bike route 17 and 18). A few hundred meters further, crossing ... Do not take the path on the left, go straight. The start of the ride is from the parking lot when you take the forest road. From there, leave your car and take the path that leads to the farm inn Baerenbach. Nice walk of 1h30 between forests and pastures.

This wild walk, the central part of which is done exclusively on small paths on the mountainside, allows you to discover the charm of the Vosges forests. Lenght : 12 km, elevation : + 510 meters, duration : 4 hours. IGN map reference 3619 OT. Starting point: parking lot on the right in the bend under the Chapelle des Charbonniers. From the parking lot, go down the road and follow the red ring markings "Accès chapelle". Follow the path on the right “Accès chapelle” to reach the chapel. Retrace your steps and go up the road. At the bend, take the forest path on the right with a red ring. At the crossroads, continue left with the red ring. Stay right until the next intersection. Go up the path along the stream for about 1 km then follow a path to the right which crosses a footbridge. Stay on this path which climbs to the left (direction Pont de Montbel - Les 3 Mousquetaires) up to the foot of the Pont de Montbel. Continue on this path which crosses a forest path. (Possibility of making a 50 m round trip to reach the bridge by taking the forest path on the left). Continue the hike by taking the path on the right. Follow the path to the left with a red ring which overlooks the path. Continue for 1.2 km. (At the crossroads, possibility of making a 600 m round trip to the Chalet des Bluets, with a positive elevation of 50 meters). Go straight. The path joins the Route du Rouge Gazon (D90). Cross it to take the path opposite. Continue to the end of the path then on the forest path which goes to Chapelle Botiotte. Go down the forest path which goes to the road. At the crossroads, go up a path on the right to the bench. Follow the path on the left which goes down to the road. Length: 10km - Heigth difference: 580 m - Duration: 4h - Markings: Blue rectangle - Blue point - Intermediate level. Departure from the car park of the Source de la Moselle. Take the road that goes up and join the national road RN66 on 150 m. Go along the RN66 for 100 m, then take the path that goes up on the left, marked out blue rectangle GR 531, direction "Sommet du Drumont". This path, called "Sentier des Russiers", leads up to the Drumont road. Follow this road for about 300 m, then take the blue rectangular path GR 531 which climbs on the right for about 2 km. You will finally arrive on the stubble of the Drumont, where you will follow the ridge up to the orientation table. A glance over the valley reveals Bussang, nestled on the side of the Tête des Corbeaux. The panorama view on the Ballon d'Alsace, the Rossberg and the Grand Ballon is simply amazing. To the south, on a very clear day, you can see the Swiss Alps. The panorama offers an alternation of wooded summits and urbanized valleys. From the orientation table, go down from the opposite side. At the intersection, take the path to the left (blue rectangle GR 531 "Auberge du Drumont"), which leads you to the farm inn. Below the car park, follow the blue point signs "Bussang - Plain du Repos". The path leads to the road which you will follow for about 300 m, before taking a path on your right below. You arrive at the Chalet du Plain du Repos. To the left of the chalet, always follow the blue point marked path, which leads to the Chalet de la Petite Montagne. Then follow the forest road to the left, signposted in blue "Bussang par le Charat". Possibility to make a small detour (about 150 m) to the Charat viewpoint, with a beautiful panorama on the Col de Bussang. It is here that the first part of the "rando ferrata de la source de la Moselle" ends, a trail mixing hiking and climbing along a fixed cable and facilitated by bars, footbridges... (Activity in free access, requiring special equipment: helmet, harness and lanyards with absorbers. - For more information, contact the Tourist Office of Bussang). Leave this path to take the one on the right, blue point mark (be careful not to take the route back from the rando ferrata). The path leads to the "route du charat". Follow this road to the left for about 350 m, before reaching the "route des sources" (It is possible to have a short walk to the Source Marie, taking the "route des sources" to the right). The Source Marie is the last vestige of the thermal city that was Bussang in the passt. Surrounded by a pretty park, the Marie source is sheltered by a kiosk whose entrance is free, andopen all year round. You can taste its naturally sparkling mineral water (free of charge), recommended at the time for the treatment of anaemia because rich in iron. At the crossroad with the route des sources turn left. Walk past the "Etang des Sources" and the car park of the "Rando Ferrata de la Source de la Moselle"; follow the road for about 1 km before reaching the Moselle source and its car park. The Rouge Gazon classified natural site welcomes you in its green setting. A haven of peace and relaxation, this man-made stubble-field was formerly exploited by marcaires (local farmers) as a summer pasture. Some cows still frequent the grassy areas in summer. Beautiful hiking trails will guide you to the nearest summits with amazing views. Mountain bike tours (or snowshoe tours in winter) are also available to admire lakes, forests of fir trees, chamois, or typical farms. Lake snuggles in an ancient glacial cirque at 1000m altitude ! Activities: fishing, walking and swimming at the risks and perils of the bather. Access: on foot only, 1 hour walk from the Neuweiher or Rimbach-près-Masevaux.

The chapel, located in the middle of the forest of the Charbonniers valley, primarily serves as a refuge where you can warm up and picnic. It was built in 1857 by a few local residents. During the widening of the road, the removal of a huge rock left enough space to build a chapel. A small building was quickly erected, in which a statue of Mary was placed. The small chapel was extended to its current size in 1873. One of the artisans who contibuted to this extension was a grocer from the Charbonniers, well known to lumberjacks for the small bottles he sold them, hence his nickname "Botiotte", now attached to the chapel dedicated to Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours. The walk to the chapel can be a very pleasant in the silence of the forest, where vestiges of the mines exploited in past centuries for the Dukes of Lorraine still remain.

The Montbel Bridge is a very special infrastructure located in the forest at an altitude of 903 metres. It can be reached in several ways: from the village of Les Grandes Tailles via the forest path on the left, from the sectory of La Grande Goutte by following the red ring signpost via the path of the Two Chapels, or from sectory Les Neufs-Bois by passing the three ponds and taking the yellow ring signpost in the direction of the Three Musketeers. Built in several stages: It was built in 1937 under the direction of the ONF (Office National des Forêts) by the deputy inspector de Montbel. Its construction was made possible because the material was brought in from the Grandes Tailles sectory using motorised trolleys. The construction was carried out by unemployed labourers who had to work for four hours in order to be entitled to meals. The bridge was built too close to the mountain. In 1945, when the forestry workers' oxen gave way to motorised machines, the path had to be widened as the lorries tore off the railings when turning. The railings were replaced in 2006 and earthworks were carried out on both sides of the bridge to improve the passage and manoeuvring of loggers. The plaque on the bridge was renovated in 2019 by the Creusot factories in Le Thillot (cleaning, painting of the inscriptions).

The two mountain lakes are only accessible on foot, which makes all their charm Activities: fishing, walking, bathing at the risk and peril of the bather. Access: on foot only, about 1 hour walk from Rimbach-près-Masevaux.

During the liberation of the village in 1944, two air bombs strucked the church, all the windows were broken. All, except the church window with Saint “Barbe”, which was miraculously spared ...The inhabitants of Bussang, at the instigation of the priest "Vaché", expressed this oath :"If Bussang is spared, we will erect a statue of Saint “Barbe” on the highest mountain of Bussang to show our gratefulness". It turned out that Bussang had not suffered too much. After the war, the inhabitants gathered copper, bronze and other materials to make this statue.The inauguration took place on 3rd October 1948. The Statue is only reachable per foot! A hiking trail leads you from the village centre to the statue, it climbs a little but the view on the village is worth the effort! A first wooden chapel, topped by a tiny bell tower, was built in 1860 by Jean-Nicolas Aiguier (the owner of the place) and a few local people on the Têtote, a small rocky hill at the entrance of the hamlet to ward off bad luck. At that time, the valley of the Charbonniers was very populated, but the population of the hamlet was far from the church of Saint Maurice. For this reason, Nicolas Aiguier thought about building a place of prayer and meditation, where people could sometimes hear the Mass. From the beginning, the chapel was placed under the protection of both St Nicholas, patron saint of Lorraine, and the Virgin, Our Lady of Consolation. This is why you can still see 3 other small wooden statues somewhat mutilated by time and unfortunately hidden by large plaster statues: St Nicholas lifting 3 fingers above the miraculous barrel and holding a broken cross, St Joseph, and the Virgin Mary. The chapel of St Nicholas - Our Lady of Consolation was blessed by Priest Claudel on 6 December 1861, the feast day of the patron saint of Lorraine. Mass was celebrated regularly on Sundays and feast days. The Feast of the Charbonniers was created after the war of 1939-1945 and celebrated for several decades on 15 August, the same day as the feast of the Virgin. On that day, a mass was celebrated in the chapel and outside, because the chapel was too small. In 1987, the chapel was revamped thanks to several local associations and a financial contribution from the land owners.

The source of the Moselle river: the Moselle takes its source at the base of the Drumont mountain, at 735m, on the western slopes of the crystalline Vosges, and flows into the Rhine at Koblenz, with only 278km between Bussang and Koblenz as the crow flies. The source is marked by a granite monument which was erected on 23 May 1965. It is located above the Col de Bussang.

The cascade de l’Ours waterfall is situated at an altitude of 850m at La Bouloie, overlooking Bussang, not far from the Roche de l’Ours climbing spot.You can reach it on the forest road La Bouloie.

One of the most rare glacial lakes in the Vosges The fauna and flora are protected, a place of study for botanists Activities: fishing and walking around the lake. No swimming.
