A total of 1390 km between the Morvan and the Mediterranean! A journey through a range of landscapes, geological and heritage sites, to be discovered at your own pace by mountain bike or e-MTB, with friends or family. Only the section of the route crossing Lozère and Haute-Loire is presented here, from Mont Mouchet to Mont Aigoual. The high plateau of the Planeze was formed by the lava flows from the Cantal Volcano. Today, the Planèze sees the revival of a local crop, the blonde lentils of Saint-Flour. From Saint-Flour, head towards Tanavelle and enjoy the 360° panoramic viewpoint over the Planèze, the Margeride and the Monts du Cantal. Continue towards Paulhac and Narse de Lascols, a protected area for migratory birds. The village of Bélinay, with its XIV century neo-Gothic chapel and its castle, is known as the jewel of the Épie valley. Follow the road to Col de Prat de Bouc at the foot of the Plomb du Cantal, the highest peak of the Monts du Cantal (1855 m). This outstanding natural site is ideal for walking and hiking as well as watching migrating birds and discovering the local fauna and mountain flora. Drive through the lovely village of Cézens and then head for Cussac and Saint-Amand’s Romanesque Church. Continue towards Neuvéglise and explore the small village of Orcières and the typical architecture of its houses. Suggested visit nearby: the vast Lanau reservoir and its water sports. At Sériers, drive along the “Megalithic Route” and discover the dolmens of Grand Bois and Table du Loup, witnesses to the Neolithic age. Additional sites are listed in the Megaliths Circuit information leaflet. In Les Ternes, you can admire the XV century feudal castle and its grounds. Drive back up towards Villedieu and visit Ribeyrevieille and Bouzentès, villages famous for their stone cutters.

The village of Celoux, the old railroad line and the windmill are all signs of the past that punctuate this circuit and make it a real heritage pilgrimage.

The Auberge de l'Allagnonette welcomes you to a building full of character. The chef prepares delicious dishes: millefeuille of black pudding with foie gras, duck breast with red fruit, etc. Regional dishes: cantal tart, pounti, truffade, tripoux.

Formerly the Hôtel de Sous-préfecture, this 16th-century building belonged to the Teilhard Laterrisse family. Today, the 4-level Maison de la Faune showcases animal collections of rare quality, presented in reconstructed biotopes. The sub-prefecture of Murat was abolished in 1926, and the building became the Maison de la Faune: this magnificent 16th-century mansion houses over 8,000 species of insects, butterflies and beetles from all over the world, dazzling you with their beauty. There's also a splendid naturalized heritage to discover, with almost 800 mammals and birds presented in reconstituted biotopes. The animals are presented in their natural environment, all with sound.

Sound and light effects taking you through the gallery of pictures enabling you to relive moments from the resistance and the deportation, illustrating how some of the people of Murat survived in the concentration camp during the war. Not advised for the under twelve years old.

The Parc Animalier d'Auvergne is a unique reserve for rare and endangered species, with a European reputation. Over a 45-hectare area, you can learn about biodiversity and discover almost 350 rare and endangered animals of 60 different species. Come and meet snow panthers, red pandas, wolverines, tigers, Amur panthers, takins, bears, Rothschild's giraffes, Hartmann's zebras, primates, two-toed sloths, dholes, pygmy hippos, cheetahs and, more generally, 350 rare and endangered animals! The Park is set in an exceptional natural site, where you can admire many incredible views over the Cézallier and discover the various actions put in place for animal welfare and species conservation, while visiting a site that is proving its difference on a European scale. Indeed, the Parc Animalier d'Auvergne stands out in many respects: it is the European park most involved in the conservation of rare and endangered species, with over 80% of the species it hosts being part of a European breeding program. The first park to house Thorold's deer, it also boasts Europe's largest enclosure for Amur panthers. The park was also behind the creation of Science Nature, an association dedicated to ethology, and Biodiv'Educ, another association dedicated to learning about biodiversity through new technologies. Unique mixed-use enclosures and a wide range of immersive activities enable visitors to familiarize themselves with the animals (family safaris, special encounters, vacation courses, etc.). A magnificent iron masterpiece by Gustave Eiffel; The Garabit Viaduct continues to majestically span over the Gorges of the Truyère, just as it has for over a century. A true testament to human ingenuity, this iconic structure remains a source awe and admiration, standing as a timeless symbol of French industrial heritage. The history of the Garabit Viaduct (1880-1884) tells the story of an extraordinary engineering feat, once thought impossible, which overcame the challenges of a rugged landscape to become a timeless masterpiece. Its light, jagged silhouette has elevated it to the status of a true work of art. Clad in red, its elegance and technical finesse are enhanced by a spectacular lighting display. A technical achievement and the world's highest viaduct at the time of its completion, this colossal structure (564m long and 122m high) was a major event. This once-unthinkable project contributed to France's international influence. Its bold engineering is said to have directly inspired the design of the Eiffel Tower, built just five years later in 1889. Since 2017, this listed historic monument has been part of a European initiative aiming for UNESCO World Heritage recognition, alongside five other exceptional bridges. The Garabit Viaduct is also a gateway to the natural site of the Gorges of the Truyère, offering numerous scenic and tourist attractions. Behind its Renaissance façade, the Maison Consulaire, once the residence of the Douët family, houses a cabinet of curiosities with an intimate, authentic charm. Beneath its Renaissance facade, the building houses works of fine and decorative arts gathered by Alfred Douët (1875-1952: paintings of French, Italian and Flemish Schools, sculptures from the XV to the XIX centuries, precious medieval metalwork, Renaissance enamels, earthenware, tapestries, an arms collection and furniture). The building and its collections are of remarkable interest.

The Cathedral itself dates from the XVth century. Its present-day Gothic appearance originates from significant restoration works carried out in the XIXth century. The Renaissance facade of this XIV century building is architecturally extremely refined. It used to house the consuls as early as 1354. Nowadays it hosts collections of the Alfred Douët Museum of Art and History. Guided visits in French throughout the year. Visitor guidebooks in English.

The meandering Truyère River snakes around the steep peak where the ruins of the XIIIth century feudal castle stand. You can walk the Way of the Cross from the small Saint-Illide’s Church up to the village of La Barge. Illumination of the site: every day in July, August and during the Easter and Christmas holidays and at weekends only outside these periods.

Built at the beginning of the XIV century, the Collegiate Church of Notre- Dame was converted into a covered market in 1791. In 2005, the building underwent a full restoration: monumental rose window, contemporary stained-glass windows… Guided visits in French and exhibitions in July and August. Located at an altitude of 832 m, Mallet scenic point offers a remarkable view and a unique panorama on the valleys of the Truyère and Bès. To discover during the circuit of the Truyère gorges.
