This is one of the few paths where you can really follow the Sioule, which flows through a landscape of gorges and impressive viaducts.

On January 6, 1568, in the midst of the religious war, Cognat-Lyonne was the scene of a deadly battle. The Protestant army, led by François de Boucé, Lord of Poncenat, had just ransacked part of Vichy. They came face to face with the army of the lord of Cognat, Hautefeuille, at the foot of the hill where the church still stands today.

This long circuit passes through woods, fields and meadows, some of which are still bordered by hedges. The man-made landscapes you'll discover on this long hike bear witness to the agricultural tradition of the area. The pretty farmhouses are also witnesses to this not-so-distant past.

With this long but technically easy walk, you'll discover the heritage of Saint Pont. After discovering the church of Saint-Mayeul and Saint-Pont, built on a Romanesque plan, enjoy the Saint-Pont plain, with its unobstructed views of the surrounding crops, meadows and forests, some of which you'll pass along or through on the way.

The Montpensier forest has been occupied since prehistoric times, as evidenced by hunter-gatherer artefacts dating back 50,000 years. This long hike takes you mainly through the forest. Along the way, you may be lucky enough to spot a deer or hear the drumming of a woodpecker.

With the exception of the Béron valley, this hilly walk takes you through the terraced farmlands of the region. The trails on this route take you as far as the forêt des Souches, one of the largest forests in the eastern part of the Vichy Communauté. You'll also pass through Lourdy, an ancient pottery village.

Between the Boucharde and Montpensier forests, this pleasant hike takes you to various hamlets in Brugheas. The tour takes you through cultivated valleys, past streams and rivers, to discover the local vernacular heritage. Pigeon lofts, wells, crosses, old buildings and beautiful homes are just a few of the highlights of this few-hour stroll.
