From the Pont de Pierre to the Jacques Chaban Delmas Bridge, from the oldest crossing of the Garonne to the most recent, this loop will take you on a journey through time, from the historic facades of the 18th century to the most modern developments of the city, such as the Cité du Vin. Some 1810 hectares of the city of Bordeaux were listed as a unesco World Heritage site on 28th June 2007.This remarkably large area encompasses almost the whole of the city inside the outer boulevards, including the "Port of the Moon" (so called because of the crescent shape formed by a bend in the Garonne) and the opposite riverbank.

The Tour de Gironde à Vélo is a 480 km discovery itinerary, to be done in stages for a day or during a stay: from the vineyards to the ocean, it allows you to discover 10 must-sees, 6 of which are listed as world heritage by UNESCO. It includes part of the routes of the Vélodyssée and the Canal des 2 Mers à Vélo as well as other departmental trails. The 90% of the route is on its own site, making it ideal for the family. The main stages : Bordeaux, the Entre-deux-Mers, the Canal de Garonne, the Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park, the Bassin d'Arcachon, the Atlantic coast, the Gironde Estuary and the Médoc vineyards before returning to Bordeaux.

Leaving Bordeaux, the route gains elevation at Bouliac, offering an exceptional view over the entire city, before reaching the Entre-deux-Mers. Along the way, through the rolling paths of bastides and abbeys across the Bordeaux vineyard, cyclists can be seen on the Roger Lapébie trail. The journey arrives in Créon, one of the eight bastides of Gironde. Of English origin and characteristic of these market towns, Créon has maintained its commercial function, with a lively market taking place there every Wednesday.

Constructed by the Jacobins, the church is typical of baroque edifices of the Counter-Reformation. Its parvis has been the set of numerous period-drama films.

A tribute to the inhabitants of Gironde lost during the French Revolution, ‘Liberty Breaking its Chains’ stands proud at the top of the 43m column (1895-1901).

The Palais Gallien is today the only visible remains of the Roman city of Burdigala. Built in the early 2nd century AD, its original dimensions are impressive, 130 meters long and 114 meters wide. The amphitheatre was located on the outskirts of the ancient city. Games - often cruel - were held here before large crowds. 20-25 000 people could be seated on terraced rows of wooden benches! The Palais Gallien amphitheatre is listed as a Historical Monument. A few arcades and seating rows are still standing, and can be seen from rues du Palais Gallien, Albert Barraud, and Emile Fourcand.

The Saint-Seurin Basilica is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and is Bordeaux’s oldest church (6th century). Its 11th-century crypt contains the tomb of Saint-Fort, Merovingian sarcophagi, and a vast Christian necropolis with tombs dating from the 4th to the 18th century.

The Allées were laid out in 1747 by Marquis de Tourny, the Royal Intendant, whose statue is located on Place Tourny, facing the street of the same name. Beautiful façades from the late 18th century with smart cafés and brasseries on the ground floor as well as outdoor tables. However, this district is best-known for its trendy boutiques as well as shops selling international brands and luxury items. This is where the tout Bordeaux runs into one another, the place to be seen… It is also where shops selling fancy foods, great growth wines, and Champagne are located.

Bordeaux’s own version of the ‘Flatiron Building’ which houses the CIVB headquarters (Bordeaux Wine MultiDisciplinary Council) as well as their wine bar, which is a local institution (1788).

Looking westward, the Monument aux Girondins consists of bronze fountains and a column with a staute of liberty breaking its chains on top. This bears witness to the Girondin political faction during the French Revolution. Of course, this has nothing to do with the Girondins football club... despite an urban myth to this effect one hears from time to time!

The Saint-Seurin Basilica is probably the Bordeaux's cradle Christianity. The vast Romanesque building (11th century) still exist porch, bedside, the crypt and the base of the tower.
