Walking tour from Lescheroux to discover the Pontremble pond and the hamlet of Villars. To reach the start of this 14km circuit, park your vehicle on the village square next to the church. Put your back to the sundial looking at the church and go down to the center of the village. Just after the café restaurant "Chez Delphine", turn left following the yellow signs. This circuit alternates between paved roads and good quality paths. It passes by several gîtes and tables d'hôtes, allows you to discover the nature and heritage of Bresse and it goes around the superb pond of Pontremble of nearly 50 hectares of water which, by itself, is worth the detour. At the end of the route, for a little more than a kilometer, you will follow the D1 road (be careful) and you will pass in front of the clog maker's shop before returning to your vehicle.

Our farm is open to share our passion for breeding: Charolais cows, wagyus (the best meat in the world) and Selle Français sport horses. We are committed to respect for animals, the environment and transparency. Wagyu, the legendary Japanese beef. "Waygyu" means "Japanese beef". This breed is at the origin of several exceptional meat-producing regions (Kobe beef, Hida beef, Ishigaki beef, etc.) throughout the Japanese archipelago. It was at the end of the 19th century, after more than a hundred years of prohibition, that the Japanese population began to consume the meat of oxen previously used for agricultural work. The breed was selected for the marbling of its meat, but also for its docility. Respect for animals and their environment is an integral part of Japanese Buddhist culture. One of the best beef cuts in the world! The marbling (intramuscular fat) gives the meat its taste: its importance is a characteristic of hardy breeds that is lost with selection to increase muscle mass. It explains the unrivalled flavor of Wagyu beef and its exceptional smoothness. Wagyu beef is also rich in unsaturated fatty acids, notably Omega 3. These essential fatty acids are beneficial to health and help prevent certain diseases. Wagyu cattle are particularly well cared for, avoiding any stress. They are fattened throughout their development, reaching maturity at 3 years. Charolais, an excellent traditional meat! We also raise a herd of Charolais cattle, carefully selected to produce quality meat. For direct sale, we reserve young cows aged 4-6 years who have had one to three calves: this is what gives the tastiest, most tender meat. They are fattened with the same high-quality feed as Wagyu cattle, and the fattening period (from 4 to 12 months) ensures that the meat is very marbled for the breed, and therefore very tasty. Breeding in the Ain region. Our methods are based on the renowned tradition of Bresse breeding, and combine the very best in terms of genetics, feed, habitat and rearing methods, with respect for the animal (and the employees). The farm provides the cows' feed: natural meadows, artificial meadows (Swiss Mix) and cereals form the basis. The cows and their calves are raised freely in the meadows during the good season (March to November). We integrate respect for the environment into our breeding approach: hedges are planted, manure is treated by methanization and the energy thus supplied is used to dry fodder in the barn. We optimize crop production by alternating grazing with cattle and horses (thus also reducing parasite pressure). Finally, in keeping with Japanese culture, we take particular care to maintain the docility of our animals through respectful and attentive domestication.

Founded in 1866 by a group of local notables, this museum is situated in a beautiful 17th century town house. It has a fine art collection with intimate light-filled landscapes by the early impressionist Antoine Chintreuil; a room dedicated to calligraphy and to the works of Jacques le Roux; another room for popular arts and traditions. Grandval farmhouse, named after an ancient parish, has been brought back to life by Morgan Benoît, the new owner since 2021. The great room, with its fireplace and period furniture, is open to visitors by special arrangement during the Heritage Days. The Grandval farmhouse dates back to the very early 16th century. The oak used to support the Saracen fireplace was felled in 1503. The Saracen fireplace was listed as a historic monument in 1925, and the body of the house in 1981. In 2021, the farm was bought by Benoît Morgan, a heritage enthusiast from Mézériat, where his grandparents and great-grandparents were millers. The farm is open for Heritage Days in September. In 2023, more than 400 people visited it. PLEASE NOTE: Exceptionally open on request and for the European Heritage Days.

Built around 1258 by Carthusian monks, this charming mill has benefited for centuries from the waters of the Reyssouze, the river that flows through Bresse. Admire this wheat mill and its 4 levels, where millstones, cylinders, sack-lifts... are in operation. The former miller, owner and active member of the Amis des Moulins de l'Ain, will tell you all about the history of the Bresse region, at this site listed on the Route des Plus Beaux Moulins de France and registered with the Fondation du Patrimoine. Push open the door of Bruno's Mill and discover its history and mechanisms. A mill until 1789 for the monks, then for a century for the Counts de la Boulaye, it became a power plant for a time. Later, it once again became a flour mill, eventually specializing in animal feed. Today, it's open to you for a plunge into the past and traditions, where young and old are sure to marvel. Children can touch, test and put themselves in the shoes of a miller for the duration of a visit. For an unparalleled experience, you'll be able to watch a 1908 dynamo being used to generate 110 volts of electricity. 2 turbines are also dedicated to the production of clean, renewable energy (electricity). So stop by this peaceful place and welcome to Bruno's Mill!

The Montalibord farmhouse features a Saracen-style mantel with a square, pyramidal bolster of an uncommonly abraded form. It is surmounted by a wrought-iron cross and its sides are decorated with triangular imbrications. Dendrochronological analyses show that the house was built in 1450, 1517-1518 and underwent several alterations in 1780. The chimney and roof were listed in 1944, and the whole farmhouse in 1974. Beautifully flowered in fine weather, it is still in business today (Charolais cattle, pond fishing and tourist accommodation = gîte and chambres d'hôtes). Inhabited until the mid-70s, it still has an open-air fireplace and period furniture (19th c. or even earlier), in particular an imposing archebanc (ancestral bench) with storage and a table. Also on display are a salt chair, a four-poster bed, tables and benches for meals, a tourti (bread ladder), a sink stone, a chest... In the old rooms, a presentation of the farm from 1932 to the present day, with a few tools and photos showing the evolution of farming techniques, but also the philosophy that has always prevailed on this farm over the three generations that have succeeded one another: the quest for quality. The eco-museum can be visited daily. Guided tours available on request.

The Moulin de Cézille, also known as the "Moulin Gaud", recounts an important part of Bresse's history, through its machinery and a small museum created by a team of enthusiasts. The Moulin de Cézille, or Moulin Gaud, is powered by the Reyssouze, the emblematic river of the Bresse region, which once boasted 37 mills - one every two kilometers! Many of these mills have medieval origins, reflecting the region's extensive cereal-growing activities. Such is the case of the mill at Cézille. However, the oldest written record dates back to 1667. It is typical of Bresse mills, i.e. straddling the river. Owned by the Gaud family since 1880, it ceased operations in 1977 and was sold. Now restored by a team of enthusiastic volunteers, it has been converted into a small museum. The most impressive feature is the large paddle wheel, but you can also discover the horizontal sawmill, the flour mill, the power station, the 1931 Ruston & Hornsby engine (still in operation), the miller's room and the exhibition room for paintings, photos, posters and ceramics.

Le Sougey is a very old Bresse farming estate, whose 35 hectares of hedged farmland now boast a listed farmhouse (1460) converted into a local museum, a Bresse poultry farm and organic vegetable production. The Sougey lands were once owned by local nobles such as the Lords of Châtillon-les-Dombes, the Lords of Loriol (or Asnières) and the Chossats. Now smaller, the estate is best known for its old farmhouse, said to be the oldest in Bresse (1460). Listed as a historic monument in 1946, it has been the property of the Département since 2002 and has been converted into a local museum. The farm consists of four buildings: a furnished main building or "house", a farm building with a barn and small stables, an oven with pigsties and a large stable occupying almost the entire building. The house features an intact Saracen fireplace, whose exposed brick bolster is the only one on a square base with that of Mollardoury. Known as "baroque", it is topped by a bell tower framed by four small pinnacles. The buildings feature exhibitions of antique tools and costumes, as well as a reconstructed classroom. The bocage surrounding the farm features 6 km of hedges and long avenues lined with hundred-year-old oak trees, classified as a sensitive natural area (ENS). There are also two ponds, a conservatory orchard of apple and pear trees, and an interpretation trail on Bresse poultry, the bocage and Bresse architecture. A pair of donkeys, Romeo and Juliette, the farm's mascots, await visitors of all ages. The estate still bears the memory of its last occupant, Maria FAVIER, an emblematic figure of the Bresse region, whose stories enchanted personalities such as Jacky Kennedy, Brigitte Bardot and VGE. An interpretive trail runs 550m around the farm, with interactive stations in English and French. It is accessible to people with reduced mobility, and takes visitors on a tour of the Bresse PDO poultry farm and the farm's animals: donkeys, sheep and goats. In the heart of the Bresse region, the Sougey bocage, a remarkable natural area in the Ain department, includes meadows, hedges and the buildings of an old traditional Bresse farm. This natural site stands out for its rural architectural and hedgerow heritage. The Domaine du Sougey comprises some 50 hectares of meadows organized around listed buildings and a network of hedgerows, also of historic interest. Over 6 km of hedgerows mark the site's identity. The site also hosts numerous cultural events. The Bresse Nature et Jardin association employs some fifteen gardeners on integration schemes, and is developing organic market gardening below the Sougey farm. Since 2016, a breeder has set up at Le Sougey to develop a Bresse poultry farm. The Bocage Bressand du Sougey has been awarded the "ENS" label by the Ain department. These ENS sites are genuine natural and landscape jewels of the Ain department, preserved through local management and made accessible to as many people as possible when the fragility of the site allows.
