With this three and a half hours tour, close to Aix downtown, you will have a taste of Pertuis’ quality of life, a town in the country. From the Tourist Office, go down south of the city then take the path along the canal. Water-rich land, it has many beautiful mansions along the way. You will also see, besides the valley landscapes, the hills of the Three Brothers, the Concors and ... the Sainte- Victoire Mountain in the distance. But the pearl of the walk is yet to come with the beautiful paddlewheel. There, the source of drinking water will quench your thirst before heading towards the vines landscapes. Pertuis can be explored on foot and offers a stunning landscape environment.

From the Provençal village to the scrubland, here is a beautiful jaunt in Saint-Cannat countryside, center of good life and enchanting landscapes. Coming from the former N7 road it’s hard to see Saint-Cannat as an abundant farmland responding to all the Provençal rural clichés. But go through the paths between vineyards and olive groves, Bories, water tanks, pine and oak trees, beehives, rosemary fields, old country houses and isolated farms, beautiful fountains, cypress hedges… and you realize! Five hours of pilgrimage (less with the shortcut) to make up with the idea of the original Provence, everything is never more than 2 to 3 km away from the village.

Ascend the wooded hill of Pâtis, offering beautiful views of the Pays d'Aigues, the Grand Luberon and one of the most beautiful villages in France. From the car park of the Tourist Office, turn left under the porch and follow the road towards the village. At the roundabout, turn right onto the Boulevard des Platanes. Pass the Place Saint-Elzéar and continue straight until the Place des Hôtes. 1- Turn left, take the crossing of the Colombier. Below, at the exit of the curve (big cactus), take the stony trail to the left. At the bottom, follow the road to the left, then turn right and cross the stream Le Marderic. At the sign "Juillère", take the path on the left direction Le Gavède. Go under a house, cross a barrier, and climb a steep path. Cross a second barrier, then continue climbing up the ridge trail. 2- At the top, turn right and follow the forest trail. At the height of the power line, leave a path on the right and continue straight ahead. 3- At the intersection "Coulet Blanc", continue straight in the direction of Villelaure, Vieux Moulin. Pass in front of a house, leave a path to the left, then, 100m further, turn to the right. Go straight ahead, cross a barrier, and then a second leading to the hamlet of Font-Blanche. Continue twice to the right, cross the small bridge over Le Marderic and reach the Route de Pertuis (D37). 4- Take the right for 300m and after the turn, turn right on the paved road of the Vieux Moulin. Go back to the village, go back to point 1 and reach the Place des Hôtes. Go further and turn left into the Rue du Petit Portail. 30m later, climb the stairs to the right. Go left in the Rue du Grand Four, then go up to the Place du Château. 5- Go back, go down to the first intersection, and turn right onto Grande Rue. Continue right on Rue de France and return to Place de la Vieille Fontaine and the Tourist Office.

A walk in the heart of one of the most beautiful villages in France to soak up the atmosphere of Provence and take a trip back in time. With your back to the tourist office, pass the Place de la Vieille Fontaine, cross the road and go up the Rue de France. At the first intersection take the Grande Rue to the left and follow it. 1- At the castle square, turn left and reach the church's forecourt. Go back your steps until the castle square (point 1). Turn left onto the Rue du Cartel. Turn once right on Rue des Remparts, then leave the stairs behind and go down to the left to turn right on the Rue du Grand Four. Continue through the arch to reach the castle square. Go down to the left and reach the Rue du Petit Portail. 2- Continue to the left on 30m and rush right into the Rue du Buis. Continue right and then turn left after the Esquicho-couido connecting path to reach the Rue Basse. 3- Turn left. At the fountain, continue left. Pass through the Colombier connecting path, then the Place des Hôtes and reach the Place Saint-Elzéar. 4- Drive down the Boulevard des Platanes. At the roundabout take a left, go under the porch and take a right to reach the Place de la Vieille Fontaine and the Tourist Office.

Or how to, from your bike, ferret around the farmlands, enjoy local produce and discover the know-how With your back to the tourist office, go left on the small road of the Grand Pibaraud area (follow the markings "Le Pays d'Aigues à vélo"). Turn right at the Y-shaped junction and 370m / 400yd further, turn right on Chemin de l'Abouaud Brinde. Come out further on the D37. 1- Take the D37 to the left, towards l'Etang de la Bonde Turn left (D9) and then right (D27). Pass the entrance of the pond and 500m / 546yd further, turn right (D37). Turn left and continue on Chemins des Escabots and continue to the right (D120). 2- Turn left (D165) to reach Saint-Martin-de-la-Brasque. At the Y turn left. At the entrance of the village, cross the alley of plane trees on the right. Turn left on the course of Mont Libre and come out on the D27. 3- Take the D27 to the left until Motte-d'Aigues (follow the markings "Autour du Luberon à vélo"). Go through the village and go to the stadium. Turn right and head towards Cabrières-d'Aigues (D120). Continue straight at the intersection, pass a large curve then head down the roundabout located at the entrance of Cabrières d'Aigues. 4- Continue straight, then take a right onto the Rue du Temple and go through the village. Take the D189 until Cucuron. At the roundabout, take a quick left and then immediately right to get to the town center. 5- At the corner of the Louérion winery, turn left (follow the markings "Le Pays d'Aigues à vélo"). Go down the street from the cemetery and go straight to the roundabout. At the stop sign, turn left (D27), then right towards Ansouis. 250m further, take the Chemin de l'Agrie to the right. Turn left on Chemin de Saint-Estève. At the place called Long Bosquet, weave through the two houses to the left and go down the small road. 6- Turn right onto the Chemin du Praderet and head to the D37. At the stop sign, turn left and reach the tourist office at the foot of the Ansouis village.

At the heart of the protected Montaiguet hills, 100m away from the bridge of the Three Sautets painted by Cézanne, with the Sainte-Victoire Mountain as a backdrop, follow the painter’s footprints to reach the Arc River. Behold the landscapes and colors just like the painter experienced them along the hiking trail. Feel intensely the presence of the master, in his human simplicity and finish this journey IVV enjoying the tranquility of the river banks. 83km long, the Arc is a small river that takes its source in the village of Pourcieux (Var) and flows into the Etang de Berre. The resulting effect is reminiscent of a painter’s palette, and it’s hardly surprising that Rousillon is considered one of the most beautiful villages in France! At the end of your day, your driver will bring you back to Aix en Provence.

The Apron (Zingel asper)! I'm smart and I remain very discreet. In the daytime, I stay at the bottom of the Durance and change into the colour of shingles to blend into the scenery and escape predators. At night when everyone is asleep, I go hunting for food. Even with such discretion, there are very few of my kind still alive. Only present in the tributaries of the Rhone (and nowhere else in the world), the Durance is one of my favourite playgrounds.

Taking its source at Mount Genèvre in the Hautes-Alpes, the Durance continues its course in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence to then establish the border between Bouches-du-Rhône and Vaucluse. The various hydroelectric constructions (like the huge dam of Serre-Ponçon) have significantly reduced its flow and its natural environment. The challenge today is to reconcile the production of electricity from renewable energy and the protection of the ecosystems of the stream.

Completed in 1862, it is used to irrigate the plain of the Durance. It takes its water from the Durance upstream Pertuis, near La Loubière, and runs along the hills until Cadenet then Lauris. It supplies about 3200ha of land. You will also see the passing in a siphon under the Eze river, where it also disgorges, if needed.

This river which takes its source upstream of Bastide des Jourdans at about 20km, often dry in the summer, is however torrential and can experience flash floods after severe thunderstorms. The Eze is the natural drain of all the rain fallen upstream in Aigues. This is what happened in September 1993. The fire station that you see from the bridge was blocked!

Behind the vines of the Pays d'Aigues, stands the Cap de Serre which overlooks Lourmarin at the far left of the landscape. Below, the valley of Lourmarin separates the Grand Luberon to the east of the Petit Luberon to the west. The highest point of the Grand Luberon, the Mourre Nègre, is 1,125m high and overlooks Cucuron. That of the Petit Luberon, the Mourre de Cairas, situated above Mérindol, culminates at 727m. This natural barrier protects Ansouis from the mistral!

In Provençal "pati" means "grazing", a ground assigned to the herds. An ancient pastoral activity surely gave its name to the place. Indeed, these natural areas often host flocks. They are still present in other areas. When the land is wooded, the help of animals grazing under the trees, thinning, pruning of the lower branches and brushing, reduces the risk of fire.

In the distance, you observe the Grand Luberon, whose birth is related to the Pyrenees, about 40 million years ago. Subsequently, the formation of the Alps enhanced the relief, and erosion shaped it. All this, leads to its present structure: A vast asymmetric vault fold, straddling towards the south. This southern flank, eroded by erosion, gave shape to its small hills that can be seen before the Grand Luberon, from Cucuron to Peypin-d'Aigues.

Towards the top of the hill, the rollers become increasingly abundant. They are in shape, size and colors and sign the existence of an ancient river. For one roller is a piece of rock torn from the mountains by erosion and transported to the bottom of a river or sea, using and is slowly rounding. The rollers of Ansouis have very different origins, and sometimes far as the Alps, brought to this place by a paleo-Durance flowing out there 8 million years.

The church of Ansouis has been featured in two cult films of Claude Berri, "Jean de Florette" and "Manon of the Spring" (1986). The scenes of preaching to the Christmas Mass and Manon wedding were all shot in the church. The scenes outside the church happen in Vaugines, at 7 km from Ansouis.
