This short walk will allow you to immerse yourself in our territory through its landscapes and buildings. From the depression of the coast of the Meuse to the karstic plateau of the Western Vosges, your route will be punctuated by traces of the past : churches, chapel and monuments are visible in the town of Greux and in the woods of Brixey.

This trail will take you in the footsteps of Joan of Arc. From her birthplace to her favourite places, you wll discover the historical places of the childhood of the Maiden. There are also sensitive natural areas. A nice walk not to be missed !

This trail in the Colombelle woods will enable you to discover for a short time the flora and fauna of the Western Vosges. You will walk along winding roads surrounded by beeches. Further on, you will discover the old sandpit of Coussey and the Combes des Enfants (valley). Take a look ! Breathe in ! Recharge your batteries !

In the heart of the forest of Sionne and of Frebécourt, there are 4 indomitable dwarf beeches. You will encounter these fantastic trees with their fairytale appearance, but also another equally strange phenomenon : the sinkhole. The images intermingle, in a few metres the landscape can change rapidly. Generous and verdant nature, meadows, where flows the Saônelle stream are part of the landcape.

This walk is a perfect combination of the discovery of historical sites and of natural environments. Starting from the Fort of Bourlemont, an important 19th century defensive site, explore the former 11th century priory "Saint-Jacques au Mont", the ruins of which are still buried in the vegetation. Climb the slope to find them !

Pleasant walk where urban and natural landscaps blend together perfectly. This itinerary will take you through Neufchâteau, town labelled "ville et métiers d'art" (Town of craftsmanship) thanks to its local know-how in the wood and furniture trades. In addition, the town is labelled "Site patrimonial remarquable" (Remarkable heritage site), the first one in the Vosges departement and "Plus Beaux Détours de France" (Most Beautiful Detours of France) in 2017.

This walk will take you in the small village of Rollainville, located deep in a narrow valley on the banks of the Frézelle river and labelled "Village fleuri" (towns and villages in bloom). Discover its architectural heritage : the Roman St. Remy church, the 17th century stone bridges and the calvaries. An exceptional richness not to be missed !

Rollainville is a town that has enormous appeal. From the limestone in most of its architecture to its dry calcaerous grassland, the most important in the Vosges. It is a charming town. This trail allows you to discover various landscapes and to come across a diverse fauna.

The Meuse Cycle Route / EuroVelo 19 is an international route over 1 000 kilometers long, that follows the Meuse and that links the Langres Plateau, where the river rises in Pouilly-en-Bassigny, to the North Sea. Throughout this route that allow them to take traffic-free voies vertes and small rural roads, the cyclists pass through parts of the Western Vosges territory, between Sartes and Maxey-sur-Meuse. The Interpretation Center offers a comprehensive tour based on 4 complementary themes. These provide the most complete possible portrait of Jeanne, covering her many facets, from her childhood in Domrem to her contemporary reappropriations. Combining education and the pleasure of discovery, this cultural mediation space includes a number of multimedia tools: - Interactive or 2D maps and animations presenting the Kingdom of France, the Domremy border zone, the 100 Years' War and Joan of Arc's ride; - Listening stations, featuring excerpts from France Culture podcasts; - An animated puppet film "La Légende de Jeanne d'Arc" (45 minutes). Joan of Arc and children: a complete, fun offer for children - A tour specially designed for them; - A game book to play and follow in Joan's footsteps, from her home to the interpretation center.

It was in a modest ploughman's cottage that Joan of Arc was born, around 1412, during the Hundred Years' War. Since the 15th century, this site has been preserved and enriched with sculptures and inscriptions, in homage to this emblematic figure of French history. While the façade traces the six centuries of this house, its four small, sober interior rooms invite visitors to reflect, in the footsteps of a young girl who became a world-famous heroine.

Saint-Remy de Domremy-la-Pucelle is the church where Joan of Arc was baptized. Expanded several times over the centuries, its orientation was reversed in the 19th century. It still preserves vestiges contemporary with Joan of Arc, including a limestone baptismal font dating from the 15th or 16th century. In 1956, Pierre Gaudin created stained-glass windows depicting the life of Joan of Arc to replace those destroyed in 1940. A reliquary bust of Joan of Arc, called "Le dernier soupir" ("The Last Sigh"), created by Maxime Real del Sarte in 1929, is also on display, and contains in its base the earth on which the Rouen pyre was built.

The early church of Greux was built into the hillside like the old village. Its rectangular site is behind the group of three statues facing the village today: the Virgin Mary, Saint Margaret and Saint Joan of Arc. The church of Saint Maurice was rebuilt in 1733, when Jean Jacob had been parish priest of Greux for over forty years. His tombstone states that he built the church with his own money. However, the local inhabitants contributed to the work. Farmers volunteered to carry all the materials, and other residents contributed workdays as laborers or masons, according to their abilities. The date of the church's reconstruction is inscribed on the richly decorated portal. Inside the church, there are 2 stained-glass windows: one depicting Joan of Arc praying in Bermont, the other Joan of Arc listening to her voices. The baptismal font is original, dating from 1773. It is assumed that a large number of children were baptized in this church.

Situated on the hillside above the village of Domremy-la-Pucelle, the Basilique Sainte-Jeanne d'Arc (also known as the Basilique du bois chenu) is a monument of national recognition to Joan of Arc. The foundation stone for the building was laid on November 3, 1881, in the immediate vicinity of the place where Joan is said to have heard her voices. Architect Paul Sédille was commissioned to build the monument. In 1891, the crypt named "Crypte Notre-Dame des Armées" was opened. The Stairway of Peace was inaugurated in 1946. It leads from the crypt to the basilica, and is decorated with the coats of arms of the towns where Joan passed. Inside, the basilica is decorated with large mosaics and paintings by Lionel Royer depicting the life of Joan of Arc.

Located in the commune of Greux in the Vosges department, three kilometers north of Jehanne d'Arc's birthplace, the chapel and hermitage of Bermont have watched over the Meuse valley for over a thousand years. Jehanne loved to go there on pilgrimage, on Saturdays and often during the week, to offer candles and flowers to Notre Dame, to meditate and pray. The foundation of this poor sanctuary is lost in the mists of time, in the shadow of Saint Maurice and Saint Martin. A humble land of the Church, a discreet witness to the history of France since Hugues Capet, Bermont has nonetheless survived the trials of the centuries. Today, the association Notre Dame de Bermont - sainte Jehanne d'Arc, a simple link in a long chain, is striving to restore this modest sanctuary, while respecting its history and eremitical tradition, and helping visitors discover its endearing story. The chapel contains wall paintings from the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries, as well as 14th-century Gothic statues of Notre-Dame de Bermont and Saint-Thiebault. Outside, you can see a contemporary bronze statue erected in 2012 to mark the 6th centenary of Joan of Arc's birth.

The plateau of Beauregard in Maxey-sur-Meuse is the most northerly grassland of the department. The high quality of the site's landscape, its opening and its surface make it unique. The promontory of Beauregard stands out from the landscape without revealing its chalky grassland. Most visitors are attracted by the contrast between the vast alluvial plain where the Meuse flows and the wooded hills. The preserved site of Beauregard is covered with a particular vegetation - the limestone grassland - whose uncertain presence is due to physical features and to the previous centuries' agropastoral practices. The exposition of the plateau towards the south explains the soil's dryness. There is no stream of water. The precipitation infiltrates the cracked rocky soil to end up further down and allow Maxey's citizens to collect drinking water at the foot of the promontory. This singular place is home to species used to live in dry environments such as in mediterranean areas. The chirp of locusts, numerous orchids, aromatic plants such as thyme and oregano, running lizards, and surprising mantises will make you feel like in a southern region. As there are no herbivores, a lot of grasses, bushes and larger woods will temporarily settle in the grassland. However, the spontaneous evolution of this environment is leading to the depletion of biodiversity.

Extraordinary trees were already mentioned in the register of Saint Basle Abbey during the 6th century. The legend says that Saint Basle's monks would have marked out their itinerary with scythes. The village of Sionne was probably on these monks' road. The dwarf beeches site is open all year round. Ask for more information about hunting periods.

On the heights of the village of Frebécourt, the Château de Bourlemont catcches the eye. From this headland anchored in the landscape of the Western Vosges, it dominates the Meuse valley, in which the surrounding villages, the Saint Joan of Arc Basilica and the many forests in the vicinity can be seen. Since its origin, in the 12th century, it has been transformed and enlarged over the centuries. At the beginning a modest quadrilateral, it was first enlarged in the 13th century with the construction of its imposing round towers. Its two-storey dwelling overlooking the courtyard, its south wing and its chapel were built at the end of the 14th and at the begining of the 15th centuries. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the works turned it into a private residence and a park and gardens were added to transform it into the current estate : the entierty of this natural setting was the work of two great landscape architects, Paul de Lavenne de Choulot and Achille Duchêne. Throughout its 900 years of history, the castle has belonged to only three families : the Bourlemont, owners from the 12th century until the end of the 14th century, the Anglure until the 18th century (1732) and the d'Alsace family, who bought the estate in 1770, after it was abondoned for almost 40 years. Essential part of building listed in the "Inventaire Supplémentaire des Monuments Historiques", the chapel the Château de Bourlemont is dedicated to Saint Vincent. Built in the 15th century and then rebuilt in the 16th century, it has a rich religious heritage, including an altar dating from the Middle Ages, a remarkable sepulchre from the 16th century and a statuary that shows the 16th century Lorraine religious art. In this chapel are kept the funerary monuments of the Anglure and d'Alsace families, whose descendants have been buried there since 1770.

The municipal archaeological museum of Soulosse-sous-Saint-Elophe presents a collection of elements found on the site of the town and dating from Antiquity: funerary and votive steles dedicated to Rosmerta and Mercury and listed as a “Monument Historique” as well as important elements of Gallo-Roman architecture, furniture for daily use and two military posts. In addition to the visit, you can have a guided tour of the path of Saint Elophe (the chapel and its legend) as well as the 12th century church and its rich furniture.
