Camping de Ramberchamp: Nature and discovery in Gerardmer

Parking : D69 at the H. Millan soccer stadium parking lot. Route: follow the blue disc markers on the ONF sign near the voluntary drop-off point (between chemin des Rochottes and chemin du Tour du Lac). Please note: the Mérelle Observatory has been inaccessible by car since mid-June 2023. Weather conditions may make this route impassable.

Parking : D69, parking near H.Millan soccer stadium (lakeside). Walking trail : take the botanical circuit path which starts on the right of the stadium entrance then follow the red disc markings to the Saut de la Bourrique. At the foot of the waterfall, go up the path on your left. At the top, take the forest track on your left, pass in front of the motocross ground and then continue on the way back. Weather conditions may make this route impassable.

Parking : D69 around the lake, camping side, parking in front of the football stadium. Route : opposite the stadium, explanatory panel in front of the chalet and path starting just to the right, beside the stream. A 650 m loop with explanatory and entertaining panels on the Vosges fauna and flora. Weather conditions may make this route impassable.

Parking : free parking in the city centre or near the lake. Access to the boatmen’s quay at about 300 m. Walking trail : take the path around the lake on your left. The path goes around the campsite located at the shore of the lake and then joins a difficult narrow and stony path not suitable to pushchairs which leads to the end of the lake. Continue on this path which then runs along the Épinal road to the boatmen’s quay. Weather conditions may make this route impassable.

This is the bike loop of the Gérardmer XL triathlon: 31.2 kilometers for 623m of positive altitude difference, run 3 times during the main event. The course features long, flat and uneven stretches, interspersed with three "bumps" that take you from valley to valley, lake to lake. Starting in Gérardmer, near the casino, you cross the town and take a small forest road to the top of the first bump. You recover on the descent and on the flat alongside Lac de Longemer. Continue on to Lac de Retournemer and climb the Col des Feignes sous Vologne, a 3km climb with sections above 7%. You approach an altitude of 1000m before dropping into the Vallée du Chajoux. The descent is rapid, sheltered by the spruce trees that line this winding stretch. First you pass Lac de Lispach, then Lac de la Ténine. Two kilometers after this lake, at the Pont du Metty, you fork right onto the route de la Courbe, which is very steep in places, with a 17% gradient, and then leads to the summit of the Col de Grosse Pierre. From here, you literally plunge down to Les Bas-Rupts and then Gérardmer, having crossed the short col du Haut de la Côte.

Parking : car park of the Bas-Rupts school. Walking trail : go along the road on your left, then turn left onto the chemin de la Basse Poussière for 2 km. Just before the bridge, turn right, then left on the Bouchot path. At the first intersection, turn right, continue straight on until you reach the stop sign. Turn right, cross the road (busy) and follow the path marked with a blue disc that leads to the waterfall. Go back on your steps. Weather conditions may make this route impassable.

Parking : in the town centre, in the church car park. Route : with your back to the church, on the road side, take the small ascending street "St Gérard". At the 2nd crossroads, turn left onto "la Montée du Pré des clefs". Then, after 200 m, turn right onto the path indicating La Roche. From there, go down on the left. Cross the road (beware of traffic), take the stairs and go back down to the town centre. Weather conditions may make this route impassable.

Lake Gérardmer is the largest natural lake in the Vosges. It is located at an altitude of 660m. Surface: 115ha, maximum length 2200m, maximum width: 750m, maximum depth: 38.40m. Lake of glacial origin. It is equipped with a 6km marked footpath. Supervised swimming at the Union Nautique beach from June to September. Numerous nautical activities are offered on the lake. Possibility to swim in some natural areas.

The Roche du Renard is a panoramic viewpoint not far from Gérardmer town centre. This rock overlooks part of Lake Gérardmer and the town centre.

The summit culminates at 897 m, accessible only on foot or by mountain bike. The view from here is of the lake and the town of Gérardmer. On the other hand, from the top of the Mérelle tower, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the lake, the town and the Gérardmer Station alpine ski area.

The Mérelle observatory has a 360 degree panoramic view. The scouts, during a hike on the heights of Gérardmer in July 1964, found themselves on the heights of the site, overlooking the lake of Gérardmer. A project was then born: the construction of this superb wooden viewpoint with 85 spiral steps offering a spectacular view of Lake Gérardmer in the foreground, with the Gérardmer Stations ski area and the Route des Crêtes in the background.

Road cross dedicated to Jean Meyon (Boisselier - 1777). This cross is visible on the right bank of the lake of Gérardmer, which can only be reached on foot.

This sculpture by Georges Halbout faces the lake near the casino. This athletically-shaped woman seems to be emerging from the water and finishing drying off.

Art nouveau kiosk (1912) in cast iron and wrought iron located in the park of Trexeau (Square Briffaut) along the avenue of the City of Vichy, near the lake.

The Mérelle waterfall is located on the Mérelle stream. The water falls from a porphyry slab in two main streams. Its height is 5 meters. Its flow is not very important. The stream flows into the lake of Gérardmer.
