Access: From Remiremont, cross the town towards the Casino (route d'Aillevillers). Parking: Park in the Casino car park (former train station). Distance : 10 km / Duration : 3 h / Difference in altitude : 250m / Marked out : Blue ring. 1) Go up between the two waterfalls, in front of the Casino and join, on the left of the Miniature Park, the start of the loop (blue ring). 2) Turn left and go up the path towards the Stanislas Fountain. 3) Continue by turning left before the hotel. Go through the Gros Chêne, reach the old village of Ruaux by meadows. 4) Stop at the deille du Sirieux and go down to Plombières, crossing the Granges de Plombières, an old village attached to Plombières, and stopping at the Point de vue des Gardes.

Access: From Remiremont, go to Plombières-les-Bains. Cross the town then take the Casino direction. Parking: Park opposite the Parc Impérial. Distance: 9 km / Duration: 3 h / Difference in height: 170m / Marking: green disc. 1) Leave the Parc Impérial and walk around the outdoor swimming pool to the left. Cross the old railway bridge over the Augronne. Walk about 500m on the old ballast. 2) Leave the ballast for a tarmac path, then a second path, only gravelled, going to the right. In its first part, it follows the contour line. As the path widens and rises, keep the same course. 3) A sign indicates the Pierre Rousseau situated slightly below the path (text engraved in the stone borrowed from Rousseau). Continue straight on to the Moulin Taqueré (remains of the last mill near the stream). stream). 4) Retrace your steps to the farm, walk along the edge of the forest in search of the Red Cross (on the base: the names of the three young men who were massacred in this forest). At the next crossroads, a short signposted track leads to the cup stone, 300m round trip. Continue upstream on a wide forest track leading to the hamlet of Petit Moulin. 5) Cross this hamlet then the D 157 and go straight into the small wood. At the end of the wood, a tarmac track leads from farm to farm. At the second crossroads, turn left towards the gas station. 6) Meet the fountain circuit. Follow the left-hand path towards a last farm and its calvary. Go down to the forest and follow the small path on the right. 7) The end of the circuit, all downhill, leads back to the imperial park by the main street of the station or by the discovery circuit of Plombières and the Tivoli park.

Access: From Remiremont, go to Plombières-les-Bains. Parking: Park on the Promenade des Dames. Distance: 3 km / Duration: 1 h 15 / Difference in height: 140m / Signs: blue ring. 1) Start in front of the Plombières town hall via the terraced gardens. Continue along a partially tarmac path, very steep and bordered by a large dry stone wall. After an isolated house, in the middle of spruce and willow trees, continue up the hill on a dirt track. 2) At the end of the climb, at the edge of the wood, take the small forest track on the left. 3) As you approach the houses of the hamlet of Les Combes, follow a grassy path downhill on the left towards a fir forest. The path continues until you reach the Pauline fountain. 4) Backtrack a little to cross the stream and reach the bottom of the valley by a forest track that gradually widens downstream. 5) Follow the small road towards the sawmill. The Guizot fountain appears in the ditch on the right of the road. 6) Go straight on towards the Promenades and the town hall.

Access: From Remiremont, take the Plombières-les-Bains exit. Parking: Parking de la Promenade, on the left coming from Remiremont. Distance: 7 km / Duration: 2 h 30 / Difference in height: 180m / Marking: yellow ring. 1) Leave the town hall via the terraced gardens overlooking the town. Follow the path that crosses these gardens from the bottom to the top and then heads towards the nearby forest. 2) At the end of the forest, at the top of the hill, at the level of a farm, take the path on the left which leads to the old Moineau pond (once a very popular fishing spot for curists). Go around the pond on the right following the small road. 3) At the third house, turn left along the dike, at the first road on the right, go down to the hamlet of Les Combes. 4) In this hamlet, near the second last house, follow a grassy path to the right. 5) Below the RN57, just before the tunnel, a shady path leads down to the Saint Antoine stream. 6) The circuit continues on the other side, on a ledge, then reaches the top of the hill (viewpoint on Plombières). 7) Once on the ridge path, go towards the farm on the left, pass it, continue to the next farm and turn immediately left. The descent to the village through a small wood is fast. The path then becomes a tiny footpath. It ends up above the station. Return to the town hall via the D157.

Access: From Remiremont, take the Plombières-les-Bains exit. Parking: Parking de la Promenade, on the left coming from Remiremont. Distance: 3,5 km / Duration: 1 h / Difference in altitude: 100m / Marked out: Red ring. 1) Go up towards the Jardins en Terrasses (departure of 4 signposts). Follow the red rings which leave immediately to the right and abandon the other markings. 2) Go past the Jacquot farm and then go down towards the town by crossing the national road, passing through the Parc Tivoli and dropping down near the old Hôtel du Parc. 3) Go back towards the town centre, leaving the signposts to take the tourist street which passes near the old Casino. Go back up towards the car park, following all the old sites of Napoleonic thermalism.

Access: From Remiremont, take the Plombières-les-Bains exit. Parking: Parking de la Promenade, on the left coming from Remiremont. Distance: 17 km / Duration: 5h / Difference in altitude: 380m / Signs: red disc. 1) Leave from the town hall of Plombières-les-Bains. Go through the terraced gardens to reach the forest. 2) Follow the tarmac road to the hamlet of Le Petit Moulin (Le Petit Moulin was once famous for its open-air swimming pool fed by spring water). 3) Pass under the dual carriageway and follow the D20 to the Hôtel Enfoncé crossroads (foyer rural). 4) Take a tarmac road on the left and then further on the right to reach the place called Feuillée Dorothée (superb viewpoint and home of the Vosges spruce). 5) At Prébosson, turn right and go into the forest after crossing a road. After the Remoiriot cross (calvary), continue by a long descent leading to the Faymont sawmill. Go back up to the car park of the waterfall (picnic area). 6) Leave the waterfall by a steep path on the right which quickly leads to a small tarmac road. Follow the first path on the right for a long walk in the forest leading to the chapel dedicated to St Pierre Fourrier. Take the path near the chapel to a tarmac road. 7) Take the tarmac road on the right, past the hedged Adelphe Pond on the left. Pass under the dual carriageway and follow a dirt track to the left. 8) In the hamlet of Les Combes, go into the undergrowth on a grassy track on the left, barely marked. At the end of the wood, go down towards Plombières.

Access: From Remiremont, take the Plombières-les-Bains exit. Parking: Parking de la Promenade, on the left coming from Remiremont. Distance: 6 km / Duration: 2 h 30 / Difference in height: 150m / Marking: green ring. 1) Leave from the town hall. Go up Rue Fulton or the more shaded Promenade des Dames (Fulton demonstrated a model of his steamboat here). When you reach the Fontaine Ferrugineuse, or the restaurant of the same name on the promenade, turn left into the very steep alleyway that leads to the Calvary. 2) A narrow path in the undergrowth on the right quickly leads to a calvary overlooking the valley. You can see the site of the former household equipment factory, whose chimney has been piously preserved. The path continues on a balcony above the Augronne valley. On the right, when there is a gap in the foliage, the former factory's workers' housing appears. 3) On a tarmac track, take a steep but short climb to the left which leads to the Granges plateau with its old farms, continue on the right-hand track. 4) Take the road on the left and follow it to the old municipal school of Les Arpents. 5) At the water tank, turn left. At the next crossroads, go straight ahead on the small tarmac road. 6) Take the road on the right. 7) At the Vierge des Champs (chapel), start the descent towards the town through fields and forest. Follow the tarmac road to the left and turn right at the second road. From here, the spa is soon visible at the end of a narrow lane. Enter the small square surrounding the chapel of the Virgin of the Hillside. By means of stairs, reach the ruelle des cochons. Go down Avenue du Duc Léopold and head towards the town hall via Rue Cavour.

Access: From Remiremont, go to Plombières-les-Bains. Take direction Xertigny/Bellefontaine to get to Ruaux. Parking: Park opposite the campsite in the centre. Distance: 12 km / Duration: 3 h 30 / Difference in height: 200m / Marking: red ring. 1) Start opposite the camp site in the centre of Ruaux. Go up the main street and turn left at rue de la poste. 2) After the last houses, go down a grassy path surrounded by meadows. 3) Cross the hamlet of Côte Levée on a tarmac road. 4) Leave the road by a dirt track on the right just at the edge of a small beech wood. Go down to a crossroads and continue along Rue du Crime, which is in fact a peaceful forest track covered in humus (ruins with cellars testify to an ancient habitat). 5) At the hamlet of Clairefontaine, go into the forest on the left by a logging track which takes opposite house n°405. A sign indicates a shortcut back to Ruaux by the road. Continue straight on to the modest remains of the Château des Fées (the fairies would never have finished the job). The track can be very muddy in bad weather. Reach the left bank of the Semouse by a path that leads to a ford. A narrow, little-used track leads up this left bank. 6) A round trip to the left offers a view of the hamlet of Semouse with the Château des maîtres de forges and its chapel. Continue up the hill by the old tacot railway replaced by a forest track (a narrow-gauge tacot linked the factories of Plombières and Semouse). After a series of bends, follow a path parallel to the tacot track. Take the D20 for a moment in the direction of Plombières. 7) 400m after the crossroads with the D20 bis, take the first path on the right. Cross a tarmac road, walk another 500m before turning right towards the village of Ruaux.

The Coteau de la Vierge: History and panorama Overlooking Plombières-les-Bains, the Coteau de la Vierge offers a magnificent panorama. At the summit, the Saint-Joseph chapel (1858) features a neo-Gothic style, a marble altar and votive offerings dedicated to the Virgin. The statue of Notre-Dame des Eaux, erected in 1855 after the town escaped cholera, is a cast-iron work by Fabish, a replica of the Virgin of Fourvière. Every 15 August, a torch-lit pilgrimage pays homage to her. A path links the hillside to the Notre-Dame des Champs chapel. Discover this place of history and serenity by following the trail available from the Tourist Office.

he statue of the Virgin Mary, erected in Plombières on 15 August 1855, symbolises the protection of the town, which was spared the cholera epidemics of 1831 and 1874. Legend has it that the town's prayers were answered. Every 15 August, the town lights up with a thousand fires and pilgrims, torches in hand, pay homage to the statue. Modelled by Lyon sculptor Fabish, it is a replica of the statue at Fourvière and stands 2.13 metres tall in cast iron. Since its installation, every 15 August, a procession has taken place in Leadières, torches in hand.

At the miniatures park of Plombières-les-Bains, you can admire Strasbourg cathedral, Haut-Koenigsbourg castle, the Stanislas square and other numerous monuments. Built in 1858, this washhouse boasts a rare feature: it was supplied with hot water from the thermal baths. The washerwomen who washed their clothes here enjoyed exceptional comfort for the time, and were certainly the envy of the local residents. A unique testimony to the ingenuity and importance of thermal baths in everyday life in days gone by.

This viewpoint, located on the Fontaine Stanislas footpath (signposted with a blue circle), offers a wonderful view of the town of Plombières-les-Bains below.

Built in 1815 during the Restoration, this pavilion was used as a home by a number of prominent figures, including the Duchesse d'Angoulême, the Duchesse d'Orléans and Napoleon III. Napoleon III stayed here on several occasions, alternating between political affairs in the morning and relaxation at the thermal baths in the afternoon. It was also here in 1858 that the ‘Secret Meeting’ between Napoleon III and Cavour, the Prime Minister of Piedmont-Sardinia, took place. This meeting decided the alliance between France and Piedmont against Austria, in exchange for the cession of Savoie, Nice and Haute-Savoie.

The painter Louis Français, who was born in Plombières in 1814 and died in Paris in 1897, was one of the first artists to join the Barbizon School, an artistic movement that pioneered the depiction of landscape from life. This approach is considered to be a prelude to Impressionism. In 1901, a monument was erected in his honour. It was designed by the architect Émile Peyrot, who was awarded the Grand Prix de Rome for the work. Made of granite and bronze, the statue pays tribute to the essential aspects of Louis Français's life, in particular his passion for painting and nature. The monument has been listed as a Monument Historique since 2001, underlining the importance of Louis Français in the history of art.

The Parc Thermal de Plombières, designed for bathers to relax in, is a great place to meet and chat. Its moraines dating back to the Ice Age add a touch of authenticity. The paths wind between a pond and an artificial waterfall, while species such as Japanese larches, horse chestnuts and Virginia tulips are planted here. The park once housed a pet shop, a dairy and a shooting range. Today, it remains a leisure centre with pétanque, mini-golf, hiking, fishing and the Parc des Miniatures, which showcases the monuments of the Grand Est region (admission charge).

The Place des Bains Romains is a reminder of the origins of Plombières. According to legend, a Roman garrison discovered the thermal waters after their dog, soaked and smoking, pointed out the hot spring. This was the beginning of the town's foundation. Today, a number of Roman installations are still in use, including the water diversion system, the pools and a bronze tap.
