Glandon, a village on the outskirts of St-Yrieix, is perched on a hill at around 380 metres. Until half a century ago, the village of Moissac was home to fourteen tombs dating back to the Iron Age (600 BC). Today, this small village retains a remarkable heritage, notably with its two fountains, St-Sernin and Ste-Radegonde, and its 12th-century church. Along the way, our beautiful Limousin cows revel in our lush green meadows.

In the heart of the medieval village of Le Chalard, dominated by its Romanesque church and monks' cemetery, the St Geoffroy fountain awaits you along the way. The trail is named after the serpentine because the subsoil of the moor, through which the trail passes, is made up of serpentine, a low-acid rock unlike the granite of the region. It is a zebra-shaped rock that looks like reptile skin. The trail will take you to the serpentine barrens of Saint-Laurent, which represent very original ecosystems and contain a biological heritage of great rarity. You can discover it, thanks to an interpretation trail whose main theme is pastoralism. Interactive supports allow visitors to discover the natural and historical wealth of the moor. The site is classified Natura 2000.

In Ladignac, you'll find the church of Saint-Agnant. You can also see the 17th-century château de Ladignac. One of the special features of this hike is the forest, typical of the Limousin forests. You'll also pass through the "Trou du Loup". In 2004, ornithologists captured 2 woodcocks and a common snipe (a very rare species).

This permanent exhibition is made up of five panels presenting the religious history of the town: "Saint Yrieix: its religious and secular life", "the collegiate church", "the Roman bible", "the evolution of the town since the Gallo-Roman period" and "the ostensions in Limousin".

The city's religious origins date back to the 6th century. Aredius, a Merovingian priest and dignitary, transformed an important Gallo-Roman villa into a monastery. On his death, the growing fame and cult of the saint led to the construction of a building to house his tomb. In the second half of the 12th century and until the end of the 13th century, canons built a collegiate church on the site of the 12th-century Romanesque church, of which only the present bell tower-porch remains. Among the furnishings: a silver chief reliquary of Arédius, a copper Eucharistic dove, a 13th-century gilded and enamelled copper shrine of Sainte Germaine?

The Tour du Plô (late 13th c.) is the only civil vestige of this period. This square stone keep, over 20 m high, protected the population and enforced the Viscount of Limoges? rights of police and justice. In Occitan, "plô" means "small plateau" or "place on a high point". The entrance was 5 m above ground level. The first floor was a prison. The 2nd floor was reserved for the Viscount when he stopped over. The 3rd floor bore his banner and was used by the "gens d?armes" to keep watch. In 1998, the tower was listed as a historic monument. The town of Saint-Yrieix and the communauté de communes du pays de Saint-Yrieix have embarked on a restoration program (2019-2021), to restore the floor levels and masonry on the top level, which have now disappeared.
