This route, which passes through the communes of Savigné and Civray along the Charente, was so named because the writer André Theuriet (1833-1907) had the opportunity, during his youth in Civray, to take part of it during his walks.

The lover of landscapes and sites will find on this circuit the consequences of the action of the man and his conquest of the natural environment.

Departure : Church of Civray The origin of the name of this circuit is quite simple: indeed, it links the communes of Saint Macoux, Saint Saviol and Saint Pierre d'Exideuil. It follows the river Charente "the most beautiful stream of the kingdom" according to François 1er. You can discover along this path a beautiful architectural heritage such as the castle of Léray, the castle of l' Etang built on a dry pond, the garden of Rocaille of Saint-Saviol or the church-saint-pierre of Saint Pierre d'Exideuil.

To do this hike is to go through the valley of the Cibioux which takes its source near the village of Surin and runs to Lizant.

The hiking trail "Cornac et Cibiou", named after the two rivers it runs alongside, offers two contrasting landscapes: one open (the plateau) and the other closed (the valley).

The penon is the pungent envelope that surrounds the chestnut, which is separated from it only when it is ripe. The red soil with chestnut trees and flint determines the landscape of St Romain and the neighboring villages.

By taking this circuit, you will enjoy the red lands. A plateau common to three departments: Deux-Sèvres, Vienne and Charentes. These rich soils, favorable to the growth of chestnut trees and agricultural crops, shape a bocage landscape.

This circuit is mostly on a limestone soil, many dry stone walls still exist. The villages crossed are almost always built with the stones extracted near these.

We are goat breeders and cheese makers in the town of Savigné. In our workshop we make goat cheese with raw milk and ladle molding! In keeping with tradition, we process fresh milk from the day's milking in order to preserve all the qualities of the milk. The strength of our farm is the feeding of the goats which is traditionally done with a large part of the cereals and fodder produced on the farm. We offer traditional cheeses such as Chabichou du Poitou, Mothais sur Feuille, Carré de Couhé and a whole range of fresh and matured cheeses.

Maison Gargouil grows thirteen varieties of apples as well as pears and quinces. The production system respects the taste of the fruit thanks to the "reasoned culture" of the orchards. Thanks to his imagination and know-how, Eric Gargouil has developed a range of products that can be found in the store in Charroux: apples in all forms, from fruit to compote, juice and jam. You can also find his products in the distributors available 24 hours a day in Charroux and Savigné.
